I ran into this deck 3 out of 5 matches today. Tip: If you play a spell based deck and have creatures in the sideboard, you can bring them in. Your opponent will probably side out removal.
Generally vs bad control players yes... good ones will keep some catchall removal and possibly mind game you by lea ing some in. Something to keep in mind
I really appreciate all the hard work that goes into this series. The editing is so casual and smooth but clearly very high quality whilst the commentary is relaxed yet very informative. This is really good mtg content, and I hope you continue to make more.
The deck that polices broken bullshit from taking over modern. UW control players know playing with their backs against the wall valiantly fending off one degenerate card after another. We thank the Azorius for their vigilance. 😔🙏
Get in early with cheap threats Ragavan, DRC, or Ledger Shredder and protect them with Spell Pierce and Counterspell. Side into more counterspells. Focus on countering their planeswalkers, particularly Teferi. Use Unholy Heat if they resolve.
4:04 I'm not sure if you "ever" wish to evoke a solitude into a dress down (I'm sure there's some rare edge case). You will have a 3/2 lifelinker afterward, but if you wish to avoid the evoke trigger, you will be giving up the exile effect too.
This deck is a plague at my lgs. Usually we have minimum 20 people and at least 15 of those people are playing this deck. Edit: To those saying “bust out burn/aggro” I play aggro at my lgs. The thing is that most of the time the deck just gets out valued (I play 12 whack) and the rounds sometimes go to time.
We played a 1k at my LGS, and like at least 50% of all the decks were UW control, and since I was playing Saffron Olive's budget Abzan Rites, my matches against them took like a half hour each
Worth noting on top of the colossus hammer not changing the creature it’s on top of, taking control of the memnite underneath does not change the controller of the artifact, who can reequip to another creature they control.
I'd also mention Aether Vial as a possible Target for Archmage's Charm, pretty big hasssle to not be able to counter creatures the opponent cheats in with it
I'd say it would depend on your meta, but the snap build currently seems to be in a better position in general field. I would imagine if your running into a lot of cascade piles, or a lot of reanimator the Kaheera list might be a bit stronger as it runs (or at least the lists I've seen) mainboard chalice of the void, can use Rest in Peace in the side board and 4 of solitude vs the 2-3 in the snappy lists. Where the advantage of the snappy list is you can run opt more smoothly, and get more work out of your spells or access spells that were discarded away. Where the Kaheera lists prefer the Chalice and in non-cascade MUs is usually put on 1 to slow opponents down, or close off disruption; which they run a full playset of Fire//ice for both the cantrip side and are able to use fire as additional removal. I think bottom line is the Snappy list digs for it's answers better than the Kaheera lists in general, but there could be metas where the Kaheera list lines up a bit better.
