Uwharrie National Recreational Trail

The Uwharrie National Forest covers 50,000 acres in parts of Montgomery, Davidson, and Randolph counties in North Carolina (USA). There is about a six mile section of trail north of Jumping Off Rock Trailhead that I decided not to hike in this video. The total available trail is just over 25 miles. The portion that I completed in this video was approximately 20 miles - divided in to two days. Hope you enjoy the video. Great video! I hiked the trail in April 2022, but started at Walker's Creek with the newly connected section, and ended at 24/27. I think I stayed in the exact same campsite you did for Night 2. You'll have to go back and visit the northern section sometime to experience the two highest peaks on the trail; King Mountain and Little Long Mountain.

Definitely go Matthew ... you aren't going to get awesome "views" per se (if you want that do Morrow Mtn. across the river), but if you want a secluded really nice woods workout and training, then absolutely ... plus Uwharrie is distributed camping, you literally can camp ANYWHERE you want (though the established sites are easy to find)

If you liked the intensity of Dennis Mountain :) ... try Lick Mountain just slightly to the north and I would say even MORE intense (you can do a nice day trip loop from Yates Place); plus if you go further into the summer (like Aug/Sept timeframe), water sources are VERY low and potentially non-existent. Two of my sons and I ended up overnight with literally almost ZERO water ... luckily it wasn't a horrible hike back out in the morning (like 3 miles), but still ... without water (and a hot evening) was no fun

I believe I have gone up Lick Mnt. before… is it on Dutchman’s Creek loop trail? Very scary to be without water! Glad you and your sons made it out ok 🙏🏼

If I needed to divide this hike into two nights and 3 days are the camping sites along to accommodate that?

Dispersed camping is allowed and in my opinion there are plenty of open spaces to do so

Going to do this trail in a week or so, was it a constant up and down and what were the waterless stretches like? Just noticed you went over the hilly-ness of the trail at the end haha

Check out the PDF maps that I’ve included in the description, there are elevation changes marked. Starting from the north and working south the whole trail can be divided into thirds. The top third and the bottom third are very hilly. The middle section (where most of the water is) is fairly flat. It is a workout for sure!
