Solo backpacking adventure 3 days 2 nights 22 miles, Jan 29th 2016, Uwharrrie National Forrest in Troy NC. Hiked the section from Yates place to Jumping off rock and back.

Nice video Steve! I work at a charlotte outfitter and I've always felt like Uwharrie is overlooked by most people I encounter. Doesn't have the views that other higher elevation parks do but it's got personality...very unique woods. Uwharrie got me into the outdoors. Awesome sleep system as well. I'm the last out of my buddies still in a tent but after seeing your set up, it's got me thinkin. I liked and subbed, keep up the awesome vids.
Best trip report on Uwharrie I have seen. Now there are bears here many have been seen. I was out kind of where you were at March 11 bear scat on the trails Ever get up to the Northern Uwharries? Subscribed your doing good.
Very nice video. I've done all of the trail south of where you started and the Dutchman's Creek trail. I enjoy the quality of the video and the shaky cam is kept to a minimal. Well done!

I've actually saw a small black bear on Uwharrie trail last fall. we saw him and he saw us and ran, but still they are there. also coyote population is large in Uwharrie but they won't bother you.
If this helps-I live very near UNF, all trails are open to foot traffic (backpackers), I've been all over the jeep (OHV) trails and horse trails. Do not overlook these areas! They are very nice-particularly, River-HangGlider, etc. Dickey Bell OHV trail will take you to Falls Mountain. If you're on foot, you can go most anywhere. (Mountain bike trails, also.)
I go car camping on the regular with my family, but havent been backpacking since my younger days in the Boy Scouts. Would you recommend the Uwharrie National Forest for a first time backpacker with two boys or would you recommend a first time backpacking trip to a state park like Morrow Mt. state park wilderness camping or Raven Rock state park wilderness camping?
Been to all three-Morrow Mountain does have a very high concentration of moderate trails and they are color coded. Raven Rock is almost a straight two miles out and back-with the camp sites being along the Cape Fear River-they are also accessible by canoe/kayak. Nice sites.Morrow Mountain's trails are confusing. I would certainly study the map. It also has one wilderness site about two miles out. First come-first to camp. It's usually inhabited.
About once a month I take a weekend trip. I don't always video them. I like Uwharrie and its only a couple hours from Raleigh so I tend to head that way more than other places. Thanks for watching!
