Another day and another UX portfolio to review. This time it's a junior UX/UI designer submission from our Discord UX community. The UX designer has produced a conceptual case for a mobile app experience. As per usual, in this video, I'll review the key bits that make it great and also give pointers for immediate improvements.
As mentioned in the video the amount of portfolio review requests I received would keep me busy for years to come. Join the discord UX research and design community Design Squad to immediately contribute and get advice on your case studies from the fellow designers instead: / discord

Very helpful review as I start crafting my own conceptual case! Thank you! And to whoever’s portfolio this is - it is very aesthetically pleasing👌🏼 You no doubt spend a lot of time on both that and the content and I’m sure it will pay off!

Just for clarification, in these exercise case-studies, do you need to actually go do the interviews with people and get real quotes and do the kind of market research a true project would require? Or can it be more simple with made up examples and data that is still accurate to the situation?

Do real research. If you make up data then it won't be user centered.

Thank you very much for the video. I have a doubt, user personas are first created based on research and then we look for users with similarities with these archetypes or do we look for our users to interview or do usability tests and then with that information we make user personas?

From what I've learned, you first do user research (survey and interviews), analyze the results, and from the results, you sort out the different groups of users you are trying to target. Then, you make a persona for each group of users. You can conduct usability testing on comparable products, which would fall into the stage of research. Or you can conduct it after you have a prototype of your product/service as well. In this case, you could use the same group of users as earlier when you did your personas, or recruit people who fit into the characteristics of your target user personas. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also just getting into UX :)
