you asked if we would be "game enough to try horsemeat"... unequivocally NO. However, where my family comes from, they eat cod tongues salted, dipped in flour and pan fried until golden. Even this I say NO.
In Uzbekistan they have tea shops were you can buy various teas. Uzbekistan supermarkets are similar to the U.S., crowded and noisy 😂 In Russia the shoppers were fairly quiet.
I posted a couple of pictures on my Telegram of the restaurant I went to, to eat Plov. It was so interesting to see the huge cauldrons they were making it in. t.me/travellingwithrussell/2275
@devontaofwg Thank you so much Deven. I really appreciate the Super Thanks you left on the video. The road to 500k. Wow, I haven't thought that far ahead. Let's do it!!
Here in the st Louis area we have plastic shopping carts also they are trying new plastic shopping carts where you can check out from the shopping cart it's something new they are starting in a few grocery stores here, the new carts allows you too shop then pay at your cart with your debt/credit card does any one else have that The local market is called schnucks
I never knew the frozen food section was so different than ours in Canada, its neat to see that all those markets always have cheap fresh bread too! Horse meat a bit of culture shock 😮😂❤
It’s even better than Swedish markets where i live in now. I have lived in Uzbekistan than in Moscow and used to go to supermarkets and buy some tasty and fresh cooked healthy meals. But in Sweden not you can buy only frozen food 😢and burgeers or ham salami and snacks 😢😂
Good one Russel....Im a Russian living in the US and that was a super informative and interesting video. I grew up with a lot of Uzbek Jews here in NYC and its interesting what the life is like over there now... a lot of signs are still in Russian???? lol really???... Скидка (sale) is everywhere
According to typical customer behavior in all ex-Soviet countries located on the south , supermarkets are for rich people and foreigners. Locals buy food on the bazaars, because most of food are local, fresh and have good quality, even selling without pretty packaging. They use supermarkets only for industrial products, such as washing powders and personal care items, that's reflected on the shelves. I also noticed on Russian titles on all signs, under the Uzbek ones, even though Russian is not official language in Uzbekistan.
I live in Florida but have never noticed these cookies. My budget is so tight I usually don’t go down the snack isle but will look into it and get back to you
I love these videos. It truly shows that no matter where you go in the world, there may be differences, but we are all the same. People still buy candy, catfood, cleaning supplies, vegetables etc... and how many of those shoppers in the store have the same worries we all share?
I think this seems stocked like the typical grocery stores where I live (interior British Columbia, city of about 100,000). A big difference is that this store has laundry powder! And Persil, which I have read is good for hard water. Hard to find any laundry detergent that is unscented, and they are always liquid. Thanks for the tour!
actually this supermarket Magnum is a well known Kazakhstan chain of supermarkets, they seem to have very recently entered Uzbekistan market which might explain the small number of visitors, limited variety of goods and yet not that familiar to the locals, I see quite many KZ products on the shelves
Oh! Tashkent, were I was born and grew up!!! Now I live in Moscow 😊. Great tour , Russel! But, when visiting Asia, it is better to visit farmers'' markets.
Ok kit kat...i used to buy it when i was high as a kid sometimes even in Russia in the early 90s... More often i went for Bounty tho... Its Twinkies what i miss the most :( And Baltika beer
Hey Russell i would love to see some videos about everday typical Russian life. Nothing dramatic or special, but kind of like the everday daily grind. For example, do Russians get up for church on Sunday mornings and go out for breakfast after church? Stuff like that...
Hi Russell! What are you doing in Uzbekistan?😂 This is my second homeland, or rather first. I was burn in Uzbekistan and know living in Moscow. It's a great you are there😊. Yes, Pepsi is a national drink there 😅. Its often advertised on TV and washed down with many meals. I often fly to Tashkent to visit my parents. And I know how to get around sanctions.😂 First of all I drink many Pepsi and Coca-Cola😅. Tashkent is very nice in summer, spring and autumn. Be sure to try real Uzbek plov (pilaf). Great visit 👍.
I was there to watch a football game. Australia vs. Uzbekistan. It was a qualifying game for the Olympics. I did a vlog type video about it. Maybe you didn't see it yet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sfx2P59wUYU.html
As for KitKat, I think it was never too popular in Russia. It has always been considered cheap, worse-than-your-average-candy-bar confectionary. Partly because it has wafers which make it light. Oh, that reminds me. "Mars" once had an ad for its Milky Way bars. They put the bars into milk and said that the bars were so light they could float in milk! But in Russia, everyone knows what floats well: it's shit. There's an old saying, "shit doesn't drown". So Milky Way was not too popular either...
It seems to me it would be interesting to compare printed prices on the shelves with the same prices on the receipt received from the cashier after payment. Let's buy 3-5 items in a Russian supermarket and compare final prices and total amount. I mean that in Russian stores we can see final amounts to pay whout value added tax or other additional taxes which a cashier must add in many other countries. It makes possible to compare prices correct between countrys.
hi RUSSELL,, from QC CANADA,,,,nice that we can have an idea of what it,looks like in various parts and places in RUSSIA,,on thing that is predominent,is the cleanlyness of most of these places,if not all ,loll,, and in those markets we can recongnise a lot of product we consumme here,,i love it,,take care,,,😊✌ho !that is not in RUSSIA this time loll, very cool and nice and clean there too,,,
And what about hospitality of people, what about this tradition ❤❤❤it is great, huge tradition to meet the person with warmth in heart, table, fruits, wine 🍷 or their tradition drinks Will we see next video about how they meet the guest? Will be the next video what tradition drinks they have?
I don't know how many other people are like me but I don't knowingly buy any product from any company that has Vanguard and/or Blackrock as a major shareholder.
I'm a Boomer and I saw newspaper ads for horse in the USA. Late 1940 early '50 archives have them One read"Sure I use horse meat more and more..." spoken by mom-at-the-range w/ spatula
They probably only put enough stock to sell and then restock as needed. In Russia the shelves were overstocked. Either overkill or people not buying or just don’t have the staff to keep replenishing the shelves.
It's interesting with this store. It did have everything and anything you needed. For sure though people shop in the local markets for fruits and vegetables.
In the southern republics, most people buy food at street markets, where everything is fresh. They buy household chemicals or household goods in stores))
I had no idea stores sold horse meet You videos are so interesting. People look so bundled up must be cold out. When does summer start there ? What is more popular there Pepsi or coke ?
Cookies by weght were available in Auchan in Russia 7-10 year ago.
Something about this store just feels different from all the other stores you've shown us. I just can't figure out why I feel that way but it just doesn't feel welcoming.
