This is just wonderful. I don't know the language, but a translation says the gist is "I would like to fly like birch leaf / I would like to fly like a small bird". It's wistful but upbeat - a musical inspiration.

in the death of winter, this Finnish music.... keeps me warm; chilling winds and inexhaustible snow keep me from melting!

I like the album version better, it's slightly slower in tempo, doesn't feel rushed like this does, a bit. Still, an amazingly talented group of musicians, and this is a great song, with beautiful lyrics.

@Dotadict0 Maybe Mari's quite fat, but her smile and her positive energy make her my favourite member of the band; and now that the other two are very busy with Kuunkuiskaajat (I don't like that duo, by the way), I pin all my hopes on her.

@Pulunen If you look at the Finnish lyrics the most appropriate translation in this context would be 'If I were a bird'

Given their strong emphasis on female tradition and experience, "distaff" would probably be a better translation.

I don't ever remember sayting Celtic women are fakes. I was talking about the group Celtic Woman. As for the group, they are not fakes, but that group is definately a bit too theatrical for me. As for the history of Ireland, I know enough. I was raised in an Irish American household and I am a Gaelic Polytheist. And yes, I know the Norse have had quite the influence there, what's your point???

XD I know....I'm sorry. I actually enjoy listening to Varttina. Celtic Woman is made up of fakes... I just noted that because they are a group of women singing the traditional music of their homeland, much like Celtic Woman.

Finnish is beautiful, Karelian is beautiful, the Varttina girls are beautiful - the world would be an uglier place without Finns. :))
