Did you know that not every car seat will fit in every vehicle?
*
When vehicles are designed, they’re typically designed with adults in mind. Some vehicle features that could be there EVEN for safety reasons may impact how a car seat fits or could even make a car seat incompatible.

Some of these are outlined in the video to give you an ahead of why and how features can impact the ability to fit a car seat. The good news: in a lot of cases a different car seat may work just fine. And remember, it’s always less expensive to get a different car seat than to get a different vehicle.

A quick fun story: in the fall of 2021, I was teaching a CPST course and we were doing our final car seat clinic at the end of the course. One of my students was helping a mom whose seat just WAS NOT working for her vehicle. Meanwhile, another student was helping that mom’s friend in a vehicle nearby. The other mom’s seat was ALSO proving to be difficult. Ultimately, these two moms decided to swap car seats (known history, trusted friend, had all the parents, etc) and the situation worked out beautifully. It was one of those “what are the odds” type of scenarios, but also a great lesson for all of the new CPSTs we certified that day.
