Dave - That's a sweet revolver - and also a very cool book - thank you again for that book - I always enjoy reviewing the information therein. You remind me of PPC when we used to buy Remington HB wadcutters (and also, since PPC was so popular back in the mid 70s and before, I bought a lot of HBWCs from an outfit called Moulton's in Castro Valley, as well as loaded ammo from Bill Davis store sold in 1000 round cartons - every time I visited that store, I bought one of those cartons) by the crate. I just reloaded those with 2.8 grains of BE powder, Dillon style, and dumped the reloads into those Bill Davis 1000 round cardboard boxes. We'd shoot the first stage of PPC at 7 yards 12 rounds in 20 seconds (with a reload) from the holster, and we knew that we were out of the running for that match if we shot anything less than 12 X on that B27 target. I still have my PPC leather and the ammo tray for PPC where all the rounds were held in perfect 6 round clusters - just drop the speedloader over the 6 to load the speedloaders. I had several tropies from my PPC days - 6" tall with a cop in combat crouch that Jan wanted thrown out because they were gathering dust. This is just before I started making videos - sure wish I had those back - thought I would never need 'em again - wrong..!! Sure wish I had kept some of those old BE and Unique steel cans (yes, I know I can buy them now on the keepsake market - but not the same as my own empty cans). Enjoyed this video, Dave - thanks for making it... Steve
Just watching you pull the trigger on that and know it's a Bill Davis you can tell it's just like glass. Beautiful revolver Thor's Axe. I have a model 15 that feels like it's had a trigger job but they're smooth from the factory. Very accurate. More than my eyes will shoot now... Very good stuff!
I have a Mod-15, those are top-shelf revolvers out of the box. One of my favorites. Just the right size, shape, and weight. That was one of those revolvers that Smith got right without anything to add to it. If you ever want to slick up a Smith, I would recommend Clark custom as they are the oldest in the Business.-Dave
Steve, Many different aspects to shooting, also, there are many ways to say something that ends up meaning the same thing. Just a different way of saying it. -Dave
Your right Dave, the lighter loads will help with the fundamentals. Problem is I haven’t been to the range in soooo long, I’ll have to work up to it again.
Harry, I'm in the same boat, I haven't worked out in so many months, Matter of fact, since fall of 2019 with the onset of winter back then and then all this covid crap for the last year, all the range closings and such.-Dave
I've been having crap luck with wadcutters, trying to shoot them out of 12 gauge adapter, I only get about 1" of bullet movement before I lose all pressure, a 4-6" group at 25 yards would be my goal, but can't seem to get them to stabilize between 450 - 550 fps. Might try a trick out of Fortune Cookies bag of tricks, trim brass to .38 Short colt so I can get just a bit more velocity. I'm using a red dot sight off bench for testing. I'm going to change up the powder as well, something faster than Trail Boss. Just a fun/frustrating "Survival Gun" project. Mike
Hey Mike, maybe I got it all wrong. You may want to see if you can get an adapter that has more barrel to it, I believe that would be the answer to the problem, you are correct though about cutting the brass down (Like a .38 special short), also, you may need to turn the brass down because of case wall thickness. that would give you some boost to the velocity. However, you also get into Barrel length and powder burn variations. You should do a video on your experiment. -Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 A longer adapter would simplify things, but short ones fit in a buttstock pouch & long adapters are impossible to get in Canada, Most US sellers won't ship to Canada. The ones that will only offer short 2 3/4 inch ones. A video is a good idea, I've been looking to give video a try, maybe after I have more data. Later Dave. Mike
Actually Thor’s ax I have a question 🙋♂️ how dangerous is it to use small rifle primers in pistol cartridge 357 and 38. I know that it is not standard practice to do what I’m asking. But I simply cannot find small pistol primers anywhere. My question is if I start at the lowest end of a load and back that load off 10% on the powder charge. Do you think that’s acceptable and work my way up by say 5 grains till I find a decent load.
That is a very good question, there is a guy on RU-vid "Elvis Ammo" (Just type that in). he has done his own field tests on that very subject. personally, I have no experience in doing so, like with all youtube videos, it is really up to you to make your own judgment and try something. Anyway, that wasn't much help, however, I would watch some videos on the subject first. Thanks for watching, -Dave
