Adventure is afoot! This week, we delve into the backcountry of southern Arizona in the 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 Hi-Cap. We put the truck through its paces as Shannon takes it out for a drive. I am left to my own devices at a local grocery store, and then spend a chilly February night under the stars in the bed of the Defender. The episode concludes in Coronado National Forest where I enjoy a tent site under some junipers.

There's something therapeutic about the subtle clacking of the diesel against the soft wind in those opening driving shots. No music, no monologue, just a man happy with his truck. Thanks for sharing.

I know you love your orange Wrangler but this rig is so cool looking out on the trails. If you squint a bit you might be able to think you're in the Outback or Africa. Keep expecting to see lions, elephants, etc. ;-) This old goat has plenty of adventure left in her. Take your time getting the Wrangler back. I'm loving this "new" rig!

I suggest a tarp over the truck's cab and box... the slope will let the rain run off, maybe couple poles upright to push the tent up in the middle incase of wet weather. Cheap fix. Always carry rope and bungee cords with you.

Since Chris refuses to engage on YT, I will give you my two cents … my understanding is the Jeep has its new engine & is ready to go but it is in the PNW … and since Chris no longer shares his travel plans as he used to in the “original” format of Venture4wd, there is no telling when they will begin migrating that direction. They seem to be forever stuck in the Southwest … assuming due to the warmer climate during the winter … but hey, maybe when he needs to fill time since Venture4wd is now a two day max “adventure” channel, he will give a proper update …

One of my initial thoughts was "A Land Rover, what are you nuts ?", as British cars are not known for reliability. This video has me changing my mind to "that looks like a lot of fun". Best of luck with it, Chris.
@OldFellaDave
@OldFellaDave 2 года назад
Landrover ... unreliable ... wait what?!?! Surely you aren't confusing this glorious machine for some suburban cowboys Range Rover or family car?? These have been used all over the roughest jungles, veldts, deserts and everything in between in Africa and Australia for decades. The Australian Army had them as their main transport vehicles, field ambulances, comms/command vehicles, tow vehicles etc from before Vietnam till the late 90's. The British Army used it just as long all over the world as well. That battered old Land Rover Chris is driving in this video will still be going long after Orangey gets replaced ;)
@stevebailey7633
@stevebailey7633 2 года назад
@@OldFellaDave - Yes LR's. I didn't state they were not superb off-road vehicles. They are, the 90 and 110 older Defenders are every bit as capable as a Jeep off road and are used all over the world for that reason. My comment was that British automobiles in general are not the most reliable vehicles in the world, the way Toyota's are thought of. Neither are Jeeps for that matter. I've owned British cars, expensive and frequent repairs. I'll take a tried and true Nissan Frontier any day (pre-2022) .

When you're ready, head to the southeast towards the Chiricahuas. The area I think you visited with the Tim and Kelsey of Dirt Sunrise. The truck will love going over the Piney Road too. An easy drive so be sure to take some of the off shoots. FYI, best boon docking is on the eastern side of the pass before you get into the Cave Creek area. Enjoy our desert!

The Aeropress does make a good cup of coffee!!! But I have the same issue of it not making enough. What I do is just put enough coffee in the press to make enough for me 24oz tumbler. Then, I just fill and press it 3 times to fill up my cup. It is definitely worth considering doing that. It has become my go to coffee maker because it seriously makes the BEST coffee. And super easy to clean

The Jeep has been ready to go for a couple of weeks already. I think Chris bought this old truck thinking the Jeep would be sidelined for months and he needed a quirky 4x4 for video content. I guess he's got to make some money off of his investment and any sponsorships he may have entered into with that vehicle. The Landrover will probably require a new gearbox or a differential in a few weeks so I guess we'll just have to wait until that happens and the Jeep can return to its rightful place
