I think this is a really hot looking car, the body lines are sporty and muscular at the same time. It's a fantastic looking color combination. The body is mint, no rust or damage. It's laser straight every where I look. The paint is polished glass like finish, it even feels slick. It has real hand pinstripe. I absolutely love the red interior against the silver exterior. When you're sitting in this car it's like you're in a cockpit. All the gauges and controls are facing the driver. Bucket seats are plush velour and has a sporty console in between. This thing is pretty well optioned with power trunk, windows, locks, cruise control rear defrost and both mirrors have remote. Originally these motor produces a measly 185 hp, not anymore.....The #s match 400 was completely rebuilt and is putting out double the power now. Professionally built by Speed Inc, we have detailed spec sheet. Cost was $5,864. It was Dyno tuned, balanced, honed and decked. Has forged pistons, comp cam, lifters and springs, ARP bolts, and more.

Speaking about $500. I bought a 1987 Oldsmobile cutlass with the 307 in it euro head lights, just cherry. Got it for $500 from an old lady. Those $500 days don’t exist anymore haha.

The 76 Grand Prix SJ with a 455 cubic. The rochester cuadrajet. And last but not least. The turbo 400 transmission. It cranked out about 220 horses. But that torque cranking at the rear differential. It was something else.That car would move from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds. For a car that heavy. It was impressive. And it felt impressive went you happen to stomp on it

I was 19 in 1976. I remember these cars. 3 years later you could buy one on a used car lot for around $800 or less. Nice example of a great old marque though.

Dann Marceau Now you’re talking. 1975 was last year for 455’ but 72’ was little lower than 70-71 HP 73’ even lower 75 lowest but good torque. I drove a 73’ and it was awesome! Last year for 428 was 70’ I may be mistaken I know 69’ had 428’

I bought on new in 76, I had an LJ and it cost me $10 grand back then. Sold it two years later for $8,500.00. They weren't that cheap in L.A !! $800.00 would have been a hell of a deal!

My first car was a 1979 S J Grand Prix black&gold peanut butter interior I bought from an older gentleman back in 1991. I was messing around with the wiring and the car burned to a crisp about 4 months after I purchased it, I was sick !!!!!!!!! 19 years old and no ride for 2 years. AWESOME VEHICLE..................

@@bigTrhodes I have a friend take the 350 Rocket out of the Olds and the 400 out of the Pontiac and rebuild them up to around 400hp they were both about equal in power but the the Pontiac handled and looked better and I got more attention from it! My mom's got a original 77 Pontiac Can Am did the same thing to the 400 in her car with straight pipes she hated it at first but started loving it when she realized she can set off car alarms when she taps the gas driving through town! 😂😂😂

I am from the UK and have always loved these big old "Land Yachts" We never had anything over here that looked as good as these old cars. I've been to many Custom car shows over here, but these 70's cars are always a rare sight. I do have photo's of Lincoln Continentals, Caddy Coupe De-ville's, and alot of stuff from the 50's---60's. I even had the chance to photo a Gran Torino in Starsky paint, also a Dodge Charger from "Dukes of Hazzard" But these big old cars from the late 60's to mid 70's are the best for me.

the 76/77 Grand Prix's were the Best Looking from the 70's, & the last Big Grand Prix's before it was Shrunk Down beginning for the 78 Models.the Engine Horsepower was Nothing like the 60's & Early 70's Grand Prix's, 76 Model was in the 200+ Horsepower Level.what I Loved on the 76 Grand Prix, was the Option of the Sun Roof, or T-Tops, Optional Swivel Seats, & other features.

The first car I ever bought on my own was a 76 Grand Prix. It was just the standard GP. Mine was white with the red partial vynal top. Had red stripes down the sides and hood. Dark red interior like on this car. The doors were heavy!! I loved that car.

I had a 50th anniversary with Hurst T-tops what a beauty it was gold with white half Landau top with Hurst T-tops gold interior buckets gorgeous car. Loaded with all options. 455 cubic inch

my twin brother had one also the 50th Anniversary Edition gives a 75 model same color combination as yours with the T-tops. It certainly was the most beautiful car of that era I believe. unfortunately his was hit by a garbage truck thrown up into the air spinning and then the truck ran over the rear trunk. thank God he had his friend in the car we're safe. They don't make metal like that anymore.

My parents had a white on white w/ a sunroof and 1/2 vinyl top with a 455 4 barrel- that car flew and road like it was floating! My Dad used to say SJ stood for Super Jalopy- ha!

Oh MAN when you pressed on that gas pedal it brought back my memory of the 1975 GRAND PRIX I bought in around 82,83 mine was bronze with that white half top , THIS looks nice but I like the round lights on the front mine had better than these NOT SURE I knew what I had back then as my 1st car , had I the fortitude I would had kept that car and made it as clean as THIS ONE

My first car was a 73 Grand Prix SJ. Bought it in 1979. Black with black interior and black vinyl top. I really miss that car. Got my first ticket in it after leaving 179 feet of posi traction black marks. I've had around 20 of the 4th gen GP's, most of them were 73's too. But the first one was my favorite. White and silver were the best colors for these cars. They show the body lines better than black or other dark colors do.

Frankly, other than pictures, I have never seen one since, especially with T tops. I would say that the video / pics can NOT do this car justice, you have to see them in person.

The GM "Colonnade" "A" Body (Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Classic, Laguna (& Type S-3), El Camino, Pontiac LeMans, Grand LeMans, Grand Am, Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon, Cutlass Supreme, 4-4-2, and Buick Century, Regal, and especially these "A-Special" bodies (Chevrolet Monte Carlo is the other of the two) were GM's dominant force in mid-size cars. Ford and Chrysler had formidable competing cars, but GM ran the roost, and Grand Prix led the way, from 1973-1977. What a beautiful Pontiac you have there! 🚗! 🐰

@@rodferguson3515 Actually, if you're talking about "the best selling car" in that year (and again in '77) yes. But this car is a Grand Prix: a personal luxury coupe on a longer wheelbase than the Cutlass 2-door, which is a coupe version of a 4-door sedan. It wouldn't become a "personal luxury coupe" until after it was downsized in 1978. The Grand Prix "led the way," in that it was the first of its kind; cheaper than Riviera, Toronado or Eldorado. Sales wise in this category, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo was the top seller, but Grand Prix was the original of this particular segment.

@@1_Papa thank you for the clarification and you're probably right in terms of the difference is and whellbase between the Grand Prix and the Cutlass supreme coupe of the pre 1978 downsized era You may be older and more informed than me on this topic I am a car enthusiast of all eras but I must concur that I don't know everything I'm not a complete guru ( Smile) again thanks for the correction in clarification. P.S You are also correct in terms of "Sells leading segment " both the Monte Carlo in the Grand Prix were purely "personal luxury coupes " while the Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme was sold in both coupe and 4 door sedan form and the Monte Carlo being a Chev would be classified as a sells leader as a ,pure sold only as a coupe vehicle. That makes sense.

The amount of people in the comments praising old cars and dissing modern ones is nauseating. Why can’t y’all appreciate cars from every decade? Cars today absolutely have their own style and are actually the best looking they’ve been in a long while. Every decade had good cars, some maybe a little less than others, but mostly all good.

@@youtold7727 me too, I was working at the local grocery store. My dad helped me get a 76 Grand Le Man's. Demo,3,500 miles. Had the bucket seats, AM-FM 8 track, factory. A/C tilt, Sure wish I had kept that car. Pontiac made some beautiful cars in the 60s and 70s. My car note was 100.00 bucks a month. I gave my dad 25 a week on the car. It was white with Firethorn red inside and half firethorn red Vinyl top

When I was in Drivers Ed in 1976 we had several of these, man I loved it it drove awesome had 350's in them I also took Autoshop so we got to tinker with them, The only GMC's I have ever owned was a couple 68 c20 4x4s but I always wanted one of these.

I had a 72 model J and my aunt had a 74 not sure whether it was. J or SJ. Mine was black inside out out. It was redone paint and so forth and it had a half material top that I had them LEAVE OFF because it was hell rusty under most of them. By the time the owner figured it out it was a disaster. My Aunts was green with the white half top and white leather inside seats with green carpet and console shift it was a beautiful car. Both were nice cars!!

I had one of these back in the early 80's. Wonderful car to drive. Mine was white,black landau top,black trim,blacked out headlights and wire spoked rims with bfg while lettered tires. A real pimp mobile. I miss it.

I had one 1976 Grand Prix SJ, Beige with cream interior, loved that car. Left it in the states in 1980 to deploy to Germany. It was worn out by the time I returned in 1983.

I bought one brand new in 1976. I think it was around $6,000. It was maroon with a white vinyl top. It had the 400 engine with a turbo 400. Was a nice riding and quiet car. I sold it the next summer after I bought a nice 1971 Olds 442. Wish I would have keep that one.

I had a 77" grand prix that my dad gave me in 96" had a 301 cid one of the most reliable cars I've owned only problem was shocks ppl used to think it was a gangster ride cause the shocks like it had hydraulics hopping down the road lol. May have lacked horsepower but solid car

Actually, the 1973-'77 Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme; and the Buick Regal were all built on the same GM platform (ALL were the same measurements, just respective GM divisional cosmetics)... It wasn't just the 1976 & ''77 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Very Good!... #566 ✝ {10-9-2022} ~ I purchased a new 1975 & 1976 Grand Prix. They were great cars!.. Both were Silver Outside -The 1975 had a black interior & the 1976 had a red interior... They did not offer black interior in 1976!.. Thank you for the pictures. The 1975 was my 1st new car. It got totaled in a head on wreck (Not my fault) and I ordered a new 1976...

I'm guessing that silver button on the driver side fender is an alarm key switch. I remember seeing that on cars from the 70's and 80's. I owned a 1977 in 1987, 1977 had the front turn signals between the headlights.

You are correct. In the 70's if you regularly had to park your car in the street of an urban area, having a car alarm installed with a barrel lock switch on the left front fender was the way to go.

I owned a 75 Lemans Sport Coupe back in the 70's and it had the very same wheels - painted steel (two tone) with chrome beauty rings and chrome center caps.

Love the cars of that era !! Why can't GM and the other car manufacturers get back to styling like that !! I had a 76 Grand Prix myself!! Loved it !!

yes indeed and who can forget if you had anything from GM it seems like through about 1984 you look down right there on the scuff plate body by Fisher

I’d rather have T-tops than a sunroof. All the cars from 1976 & 1977 were beautiful cars. Monte Carlo, Buick Regal but my favorite was the Cutlass Supreme. Have mercy, I sure wish I had all of the cars I had back from those days.

The '76-'77 were great years for the GP. They weren't quick, but with a 55mph national speed limit, they could get you thrown in jail. Then... came 1978.
