Neo tweeter V3 complete build and measurements. my alternative to the Dayton PT6-Mini and my previous design , since i wanted to have a tiny planar to cross low :) with a 6dB filter only on the cheap :)
Well measurement and wrap up starts here: • V3 Neodymium planar tw...
I know printing these might not be for everyone :(. but if you really want to... you might be able to contact me ?
Stuff needed
- Alu/polyesther laminate
- Hardboard 3mm thick
- 30 x Neo magnets 3x2x30
- CNC, or just a jig saw.
- Xerox solid ink printer or a way of contacting me.
- 3m 30NF glue
- Polyurethane glue
- metal with R3t5 1mm thick
- Patience coffee and maybe a beer
- Tape
- Sponge
- Some wood clamps
- ikea bucket thing
- table salt and coper sulfate
maybe some other bits and bobs like foam tape and velt.
The system that plays in the end , uses 2x MHB12 woofers parallel a 3mH coil on the woofers and a 22uF cap with a 3.2 Ohm resistor in series with the tweeter. very easy simple filter... might need some adjusting but for now .... im pretty impressed. i am aiming for a zoom recorder to make some better sounding music videos to do them a tiny bit more justice :(

Veri nice experiment and a great result, you made a great job with that ribbon... i re-discovered planar tweeters after more than two decades and they're awesome, clean and fast Very thank you, mate

I have not a clue on what exactly you are doing in this video because I just discovered your channel looking around RU-vid for some information on the ptmini. Saved me from that one ;) Your channel is super interesting and I will definitely keep watching these videos until I get an idea of how this works

Vincent Koster haha , thanks ! Well try watch some earlier videos tbey might explain a bit more. But it usually it boils down to me making loudspeakers from scratch :) some beter then others and very often just to test an idea

@@joppepeelen you're right. I should probably do some research on the science behind planar tweeters and start watching more of your videos to really get the hang of it :)

Flux for soldering aluminum !!! yes there is flux to use normal solder tin. the trick is i think acid based. getting the corrosion of the alu and at the same time making sure it does not corrode instant because there is no way oxygen can reach it.

This tweeter sounds better then the rest.

great job, my compliments what thickness does the polyester-aluminum laminate have? Where can I find it?
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 6 лет назад
well thanks ! the polyesther is 12 mic, alu is 9, and 2 mic glue layer. it is rahter hard to find i only found it bulk and you have to have a company to buy from them. else if you need just a few meters send me a message.

very cool, learned that aluminium flux is a thing and i finally found out what kapton tape is good for. What impedance were you aiming for, and why?

Usualy 3.5 to 4 ohm. :)

Neat! How are the magnets' magnetic fields aligned (vs. current direction)? Is this shown in a previous video?
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 5 лет назад
Uh yes but i made a mistake in that video (althrough it works the same phase would be reversed) you need the left hand rule. Search for speaker motors explained but keep in mind i used the wrong hand :) haha

+Joppe peelen: Thanks for the reply - so are alternate rows of magnets in opposing field direction? or are all the magnets aligned the same way? I find it hard to visualize without drawing it on a piece of paper, hence my confusion. What puzzles me is why it works, given that the tracks follow a meandering pattern rather than simple (concentric) loops.

Must the perforated metal that supports the magnets be steel (magnetic) or can it be aluminum or stainless steel (non-magnetic)?
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 4 года назад
well i got tweeters that dont have metal at all, but you lose like potential 2-3 dB on output since you use both sides of the magnet when you use metal. down side might be cavity resonances. thats why my later tweeters dont ahve metal since it was just loud enough to be used in my speaker. then i rahter dump the metal

why not coaxial planarmidrange + supertweeter with no crossover in midrange under 8k to 150hz
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 6 лет назад
well it has a crossover always. since i dont want a huge surface area emit highs (dispersion). at the same time i dont want a small panel try to produce the low end and create all sorts of distortion. :( also there will always be a rising response that i have to counter. so cant do without any crossover components. even the RC kind of style to divide a membrane into pieces is essentially a crossover. something i did not quit got to work :( responses became nasty when trying that weirdly enough. although it should work. it did not for me so far. they way i use the,m now is as less crossover as i can use. one coil that flattens the woofer but after a while drops of slightly, and the tweeter/mid drops on its own then i use a cap to prevent it to ouput to much near resonance. this way has not a very broad band in placing crossovers i must add :) it just has to work out. sometimes it does not :) but it creates an rather even response (not perfect) while using as little as i possible can.

Its size and layers that make its sound better poor? Can you check high en speaker AMT its deeper than ebay and temu. why? layers or?
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 26 дней назад
this is not an AMT its a regular planar magnetic tweeter. flat membrane with magnets behind the coil
