The translation for "Awase" most often used is "blending". However we will use the term "matching" since the principle of Awase must be applied to many aspects of the practice of aikido, such as timing, distance, position, direction, speed, power, and spirit. The first purpose of Awase is to lead uke. One cannot lead without first joining. One cannot join without matching. This video presents exercises that reveal the importance of Awase and further provides application through technique examples.
