V8E6: The Terminus of a Secret Road

A detour for preventative Jeep service takes me back to Prescott, Arizona, where I pay another visit Summit 4x4 Company. Snow and cold temperatures give chase, so when the Jeep work concludes, I head back to Arizona's southwestern desert. This week, I revisit the Koa Wilderness, explore primitive tracks throughout the reserve, and enjoy some secluded camping experiences, and off-grid adventure.

I'm kinda randomly jumpimg around between series but this V8E6 is my favorite so far. Stunning scapes captured with fine attention to detail and a real eye for the subliminal. You have a deep respect for the objects that sustain your existence and allow you explore the wilderness - but also share the experiences. You're a great explorer and I thank you for sharing it all.

Wifey and I love your videos!!! We live in NW Phoenix and are very familiar with Prescott and know where Summit 4X4 is...When we get our Jeep we will hit them up. We will also hit up Kofa, so cool you saw those mountain goats...Thanks for allowing us to be a part of your adventure! 🙏🏻👍

I have started this video over 10 times I'm not even kidding. But it's not a bad thing the way you film I just feel like I'm part of the experience. I get busy with something and just listen and then remember I have a video on. If you ever finish your adventure or decide it's time to stop I have no idea how I will fill this void of enjoyment. Currently building my own "adventure mobil" nothing crazy just plan to keep it simple as you have. You never do anything too crazy and It should be a reminder to many you dont need to be fully locked and all the gear to go with it to have fun and go almost anywhere.

Trail Recon bugs the crap out of me with the lame music and the endless money he drops into what amounts to weekend trips. Much rather see Shontz do it all organically and cheaply without stupid fake folk guitar playing in the background.

I get a lot of parts for my old CJ5 Jeep from Summit and they are always outstanding. I thought it was a much bigger operation but now even happier to see I'm apparently doing business with a small shop with some outstanding employees.

Did the same track through Kofa a few days before you ran it. Brought along a friend who had never been in the area and he was blown away with the rugged beauty. Glad you got to see some desert bighorns. That's rare, even though it is why the wildlife refuge was established. Kofa is one of my favorite places for solitude, but only when it's cool. Summer there is NOT fun. Enjoy seeing you in my part of the world. Great episode as usual.

Hi Chris. I've been watching for a few months now. I love to come along on your adventures and it gets me out of here for a little while at least. That's a great thing for me. So thanks. Chris, no hats on beds. Can't stress this enough, don't do it son. Back to Summit. Yes, that thing mentioned, the relationship that builds in having adventures with the inanimate. It is the real deal mate. I have an old car, my first car actually, and there are times when we, by that I mean me and the car, just fall in together. It just isn't me and the car on the road, we sort of become one thing moving. There is a relationship there. My car is 47 years old this year and though there are some marks of experience, like those dents you left in, life, it's very much like a new car just broken in. Looks never signify age right? Anyway. Montreal steak spice on eggs over easy. Nice. I was wondering if you park with a purpose so the sunrise is facing you or behind you when you wake and open the window, the light, how you like it? You know, it's cold but I get the sun to rise and set the way I like often. Closing this letter out, I look forward to each episode and in particular, your trip through eastern Canada as we are in Montreal and working our way through life and the country at a much slower pace than you. To Cape Breton we're bound perhaps in another ten years, and there we will stay. Not sure why this popped into my head just now but, since you're not a foodie at all and you are walking along the seashore more often than myself, there is a buffet of food laying about in low tide. I learned this on the west coast and Vancouver Island. When you learn to identify mollusk, you have a feast in twenty minutes. Isn't that something? Lunch from hiking. Nothing fresher. Happy trails amigo.

I loved this episode, Chris, as it brought back so many wonderful memories of Arizona and its beautiful desert. I camped, backpacked in my pick up and on my motorcycle. One of my favorite stops was in Prescott where a great friend owned a cabin in the forest. Where you camped in the desert reminded me of working with EOD near Gila Bend gunnery range. On the weekends we would camp on the areas that we had finished "sweeping" for live ordnances. The desert was mysterious but so beautiful and the wildlife was incredible at night...even mountain lions would come out of their lairs. The night sky was absolutely magnificent. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. I love your sense of adventure and the great spirit you possess.

You're back in the land of my people! My mother, aunts and uncles were born a stone's throw from Prescott. My grandfather was a cattle baron, copper mining engineer, and bootlegger there from the early 1920's. He owned 5 or 6 cows, distilled booze, and ran it down to Phoenix. lol
