The fact the VA is deviating from established medical doctrine on what hypertension is should be a cause for legal challenges in the courts.

So if you are on medicine to control your hypertension numbers would that allow a rating of 10% since if you weren't on the medicine you would be rated due to the uncontrolled blood pressure numbers?

I have just been approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension. I not only had medical research but MRI's of my brain showing stroke, white matter damage and brain shrinkage. All associated with long term hypertension and cognitive impairment. Hypertension can cause severe damage to your blood vessels in your heart and in your brain. My VA doctor wrote me a nexus statement and the C&P doctor agreed.

@@kl3mm3r86 My understanding is that those readings must occur on 3 separate days, either 160 on top or 100 on bottom. I haven't seen any clarification on the time period though, like must those 3 days be within a 6 month or a one year period or...? I also meet that criteria over a 6 month period, but my doc hasn't written an actual diagnosis, just a "hypertension" problem on the problem list. That's not good enough. Also need svc connection to attach it to,?....like PTSD, tinnitus, insomnia...
@kl3mm3r86
@kl3mm3r86 2 года назад
@@eQuariuz that's what I meant. Those numbers (3 readings) or that group of numbers. Not just one reading. Sorry if I worded that wrong. The diagnosis comes from being on the problem list and being under medical care for it such as BP meds ECT. You can also ask your doctor to simply "officially diagnose you in the system for C&P purposes" and they'll most likely say: of course. My readings where spread out from in service 04-09; indoc to VAHS 09; and follow ups over a couple of years 09-2016 when I was awarded so I don't think there's a time limit on Hypertension like other conditions might have.

They’ll care about your current reading. I have really high BP. Cause me to have an aortic dissection, strokes and an actual coma 2 years ago. Been on BP meds ever since. They didn’t care about the over 6,000 pages of medical documentation stating high bp caused these issues and that for multiple readings my bp was in the range of 220-240/110-130. They didn’t care because they said my hypertension is now ‘controlled’. So I’m SC for the hypertension but it’s rated at 0% even being on four meds for they hypertension alone. Two of the meds I have to take twice a day.

@@shepatown I was just approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension. I think statin drugs are used for high cholesterol, not hypertension. @mickturner957
@mickturner957 Год назад
You first need service connection to the primary disability, then you can file supplemental claims for things that your primary causes. Don't file them at the same time like I did, the VA gave me 0% for Hypothyroid because it was presumed from Agent Orange exposure but ignored my High Cholesterol (Hyperlipidemia) filed at the same time. Remember, for a disability to have a higher rating the VA only looks at how it makes your condition worse and makes it so you can't function to some degree. Having a disability is only the first step.

VA contacted me to apply for hypertension and also because of ED. They contacted me! They quickly had me seen by a doctor (foreign female), and my BP was checked a couple hours after I had taken my BP meds, which I had taken for over 30 plus years. The BP check was still a bit high but acceptable. I have been diagnosed with ED since 2002. I was okay for Hypertension but zero compensation. I was denied for ED. I am already 100%. 90% plus 10% TDIU. I filed TDIU in 2007, and when I was approved 11 years later, they only went back one year on TDIU. It's not unusual to be screwed by the VA, but what irritates me is...they contacted me knowing the problems have existed.

I've suffered from PTSD and sleep apnea since on active duty, 87-91. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2001 and rated for it by the VA in 2009. I was diagnosed and rated for PTSD by the VA in 2014. In 2004 my numbers were through the roof for hypertension and I was immediately put on high blood pressure medication from my PCP. Now its controlled by medication. Since my 2004 medical records have been destroyed by my provider because of either their policy or some sort of law about length of records and because hypertension is a secondary condition to sleep apnea and PTSD, could I qualify for service connection for hypertension through nexus even though my hypertension is now controlled by medication?

The blood pressures your mentioning probably means that the person has died either from a stroke or their heart has burst. Those blood pressure readings related to the disabilities are the dumbest thing I have ever heard of related to blood pressure. You guys are the lawyers, why haven't you guys filed a case against V.A. in a class action suit. This seems like a no trainer to me.
