Sweet '68 or '69 Electrolux Corporation (USA) Model 1205! A few corrections/additions to your information: the border of the Electrolux logo on the side bumpers was always red until the honey gold 50th Jubilee (aka Golden J) Model 1205; it's just that some of the ink, darkened over the years; there were several different 1205 manuals-albeit the first several did indeed look similar but were nonetheless updated; a tank-type's motor is mounted vertically, while a canister's motor is mounted horizontally-the style of the body is immaterial; a pigtail cord is so named due to the fact that the connector end of the cord extends past the hose similar to how a pig's tail protrudes from its body; the Model PN-1 was succeeded by the Model PN-2 in 1973 at the same time the textured metal was first used for the body; the hose cord receptacle was removed altogether shortly after the electrified hose inlet was incorporated (not moved to the side); the ribbed cream wand was only used the first year-in succeeding years first a one piece metal wand with a turquoise sheath was used followed by a 2-piece wand with a turquoise sheath; the Automatic Control device regulates the shut-off mechanism: to ensure that the filter bag is not over- or under-filled depending on the type of litter being vacuumed.

Just a little more detailed info. about the "Automatic Control" and the Guide Light...the Automatic Control did not regulate suction strength; rather, it monitored airflow to determine how soon the automatic shut-off would activate when the dust bag was full enough to compromise the effective operation of the machine. As the control is turned, it goes from 'fine dirt' to 'medium dirt' to 'coarse dirt'. Since fine dirt is more apt to clog the pores of the filter material in the dust bag, that setting would cause the machine to shut off sooner than if the setting was positioned on coarse dirt--and while coarse dirt occupies more volume in the dust bag it won't as quickly choke off the air flow through the machine by clogging up the filter material. The effect of this control was accomplished by the use of airflow tubes (and a small fresh air port) embedded within the bag door which "sensed" air pressure through the machine both before and after the dust bag, and when UNFILTERED airflow/suction through the fresh air port became stronger than it was through the much larger bag chamber, that's when the door would pop open and the guide light would illuminate, indicating that it was time for a bag change. :)

@@Konstellation_Karl_55 I'm an Electrolux nerd...LOL...I have a 1205 as well, but mine is from 1972 and uses an electric hose...BUT its PN-1 power nozzle is detachable and while it uses the two-piece wand and sheath, the sheath has a pigtail connector instead of a pistol connector like the later iterations. Your 1205 is a rare bird with the PN port under the suction inlet, but your PN-1 isn't original to that machine--it's got to be a Model G-era model that a turquoise housing was put onto. As far as I know, the last straight-sheath PN-1s were made in 1967.

@@Selectrolux Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your insight. However, it appears that our resources might conflict. According to my sources and a several other collectors, the first run of the 1205 was equipped with a 1 piece sheathed PN-1 with the new teal hood. Here is a Vacuumland link to a discussion mentioning the early iteration of the 1205 with the 1 piece PN: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?28161

Great score! Electrolux Corporation made two bronze-colored tank vacuums in 1980: The Model 1401-B Olympia One (official vacuum cleaner of the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY) or the pared-down Deluxe Special Model 1453 without the automatic control feature and some other economical features. The inside panel of the bag door includes the model number and other specs.

Oh I wish I had one! They’re very rare. The closest I have to one is a Kenmore Horizon canister from the 50s, but they were made by Birtman

Hi I have a question regarding the hose, I recently acquired a early 1205 with the front pigtail socket in the bag door, and the dark painted metal label plate. My hose looks to be identical to yours except mine does not have the external pigtail cable, however it still carries electrical connections through a internal cable and works just fine that way yet by the looks of the connector at the handle end I could still add a external pigtail to it if I had one. Any idea what's up with this? Mine also has a plastic handle on the machine and someone sharpied on the motor the date November 1970. It also came with a beige wand and PN4 which I already figured can't be original to the machine. Thanks for the video!

Hi, If your cleaner has both an electric inlet and a cord receptacle, it would have been made during the transition period of getting the updated electric hose approved by UL. The first electric hoses were made in Canada without the approval and the plastic hose grips were prone to breaking; so they were recalled. It took awhile for the hose grip to be redesigned and for UL to approve it, so the non-electric hoses were again used. November 1970 matches that time frame. The Model PN-4, though, was introduced in 1977, so originally your cleaner would have been equipped with the Model PN-1.
