This location for pulling a pulse pump port works well! I used the same location for my buggy with a Duromax 420. For mine, I drilled and tapped a 1/8" NPT brass fitting with a barb, then ran the hose to the pulse pump. Just be careful while tapping because it's really easy to crack the plastic. It doesn't provide too much pressure so that the gas overfills the carb. I've heard that running the pulse off of the valve cover and some of the other emission ports doesn't work too well.
Try using a reinforced fuel or transmission hose for the pulse hose. Soft hoses like that swell & contact slightly especially at higher RPM's. We had a hard time finding why unlimited modified gokarts were starving for fuel at the end of the straights. More rigid plus hoses fixed the problem.
