Creative use for vacuum sealer. Every closet prepper should own a vacuum sealer for long term ammo protection against moisture

I wear gloves when handling storage ammo. Reduce the oil for rusting.

Waste of money and time. I use military ammo cans with a working rubber seal and reusable desiccant packets.

Great idea if you are not sheep hunting and risk dropping your pack in the water. You could have ammo can for main storage, but I like transferring them to a pack.

@@northernplanit2082 Let me reply in a more informative way. For storage both your way and mine are great. The primary benefit of both our ways is the preservation of ammunition. Your way does not require the reusable desiccant mine needs to preserve or extend the life and quality of the rounds. Mine is faster to get at, if I need to and I save time vacuum sealing the rounds as well as the cost of the Vacuum Sealer and the plastic.

Be sure to use the heavy duty bags.

Hope you have better luck with these "bags" than I have. The bag material I bought proved to be porous enough that after about 6 months, enough air had gotten in that the rigidity of them was gone. This left mine no better off than if I had put stuff into zip lock bags. I think it must have something to do with the fact that they intend for them to be sealed and then frozen. Mylar on the other hand, with oxygen absorbers worked great for me. Best of luck to you. :)

Really? Very interesting. I use different bags for food. No idea what brand and I am interested in vacu-sealing some ammo... What I have learned with food is to study the seal... if the seal is off, air will get in in 5-10 min. So before I put in freezer or fridge or sous vide tub, I wait a few minutes to see if it has lost and compression.

Great video! I am new to vacuum sealing ammunition, but think its a great way to store them. What brand of bags are you using? I like that the bags have a strip in the middle for product description. Just subbed and rang the bell!

I vacuum mine with the rounds still in the box so I know exactly what they are.
@currentcolt3655
@currentcolt3655 3 года назад
wouldn't it be better to leave the .22's in their boxes when putting them in the bag to increase their impact resistance and to ensure the reliability of the priming compound during later use?
@nobodyelse8064
@nobodyelse8064 6 месяцев назад
It's a tradeoff. The corners and edges of the boxes aren't conducive to keeping the integrity of the seal.
@charlie6629

Hey I have an idea. Get some ammo cans and put your 20 round boxes inside. Simple enough and we can save the bags.
@northernplanit2082

For sure when you are talking about home storage, but these are intended to go in a grab and go backpack or hunting pack.

@@northernplanit2082 … I would say less cartridges per sealed pack … so that most ammo stay dry when opening each pack as necessary in a grab and go situation. No resealable equipment out in the ‘wilderness’.

why not leave the sandwich bag inside, for the extra "puncture resistance"?
@northernplanit2082
@northernplanit2082 3 года назад
I thought about that, but the bag would need to go on the outside. once the vacuum is punctured it could allow humidity in. If you want extra protection the second bag should go on the outside. Good question though.

You’ve used masking tape to mark and identify your bags...bad choice...place the identification inside bag...masking tape will dry out over time...curl and fall off
@northernplanit2082
@northernplanit2082 4 года назад
I have not used masking tape. The bags actually have a white writing surface strip on the plastic. Your comment on putting identification on the inside is a good one though. Thanks

I am sure it is possible, but as soon as you need 1, the other 999 are no longer sealed. I think 20 per bag is perfect so you only use what you need for most occasions.
