Today I’ve got a  tip that will help prolong your ammunition’s life, make it easier to organize when storing, and virtually weather proof it while out hunting. What is the tip? Vacuum sealing it.
A vacuum sealer food saver has so many uses, I’ll go over all the different way I use them in other videos but for now let me show you how I use it to prolong my ammo life.
This is a system that allows you to easily figure out just how many rounds you have left since you know the denomination of each bag. By vacuuming all the air out. moister ammunition’s enemy is held at bay, and when you take it out in the field it is protected until u decide to use it
This cheap and easy, way to organize and protect your ammo for that all important hunt. If you would like to see what I use or support the channel check the links in the description on the different items used in this video
My hope is that my continual painstaking practice of changing, fixing and improving on ideas ...will help you out during any of your own endeavors.

Something I do when I vacuum seal my ammo, cut a small triangle at one end of the bag (on the edge where the flap is thicker) to make it tearable without the need for scissors.
@koljya
@koljya 2 года назад
you might also just use a punch for a cutting a round notch or make a simple incision and cover it with a patch of easily- tearable masking tape to avoid accidential opening. ;-)

At my old company, we used to store brass terminals in plastic bags. However, after storing them for long period of time, we noticed we had tolerance problems with the brass. After checking them, we noticed bits of micro plastic sticking to the brass. We then stored them in glass jars.

cabela's vacuum 8' bags work best. pack the ammo in their boxes, 30.06 single box, .223 in twos or threes, 9 single. air remover pack, then a second layer with another oxygen remover. you can store firearms too, triple bag them, don't over don't make them too tight, make them snug. may God bless you, never loose heart.

Just another thought, if you're the type to worry about a societal collapse then having ammo portioned like this could be good for trading as it would likely become a commodity item used as money. Also they make larger Food Saver machines and if want to cut down on time you could make bags ther length of your ammo can and stack them.

Never “TRADE” ammo since it can be used against you. Keep tons of ammo to GIVE to your own people. I understand how that’s counter productive since most people are killed by people they know! 😮

@@TheOCDHunter Nothing wrong with that and I didn't intend for my comment to come off as criticism. I know many people worry about ammo shelf life as I did 30 plus years ago, but I called CCI and had a good talk with one of their experts about this subject in the early 90's. To keep this short, I came away with realizing that just keeping your ammo in the house at room temperature with normal to low humidity and you will have no problems. He told me at that time they were still shooting ammo that was seventy years old that was working perfectly. They spend lots of time researching powder, primers, and ammunition, so I figure they know what is what.

For $7-8 a pack of 100 - you can toss in a 2 or 5 gram desiccant tab in with your cartridges - depending on caliber/quantity - and double down on dry. Those bags Knick real easy. Especially if it’s a spitzer round. My basement leans a bit damp so every little precaution helps

agreed. I don't draw a complete vacuum, only suck most of the air out until it's not excessive, then seal. I always leave a bit of room so there's free air inside and also store a desiccant like you mentioned. the peace of mind in my opinion feels really good and is well worse the bit extra cost.

You can probably make as big as a bag as you want. I like smaller denominations because I’m always going to the range or out hunting, it easy to know how much I have plus more manageable. It is probably more of my OCD for storing it this way. Lol. But the bags I make are just from a roll for food savers. Then I cut them down to the size I want. Nearly every single prepper talks about oxygen absorbers but nothing about vacuum sealers. I have been storing my ammo in tin sheds sealed up nice and tight since 1998 with no problem. I have been on a very low calorie diet for a while so I was thinking I should unseal some 20 year old dried and sealed strawberries to see if I feel anything from them. Since I'm starving right now is why I thought would be a good way to test them.

I would not store the shotgun ammo 5 rounds in a package because it is just going to be stupid to open up a package every 20 seconds when shooting

You can nick your vacuum bag so they can be opened later on without tools.

I'm new to storing ammo and have never heard that moisture is an enemy. I live in southern California, do you really think I need to seal all my ammo like this?

Key to good ammo storage is cool, dry, dark place. Moister is a problem in Midwest were there is high humidity. Humidity or moisture will damage all metal over time, and well, ammo is not free from this. I’ve used to use silica in my ammo cans, but I always ended up spilling the beads all over the place. I like vacuum sealing for long term because you removed as much air as you can, it easy to figure out how much you have because of know denomination, when I am out in the bad weather I know it is protected from the elements until I use, and finally it an OCD thing 😄. That being said, nothing is perfect but if you store your ammo following the 3 simple rule: cool, dark, dry place it should last you a long time. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel! - blessings The OCD Hunter

Run a dehumidifier in your room when packing the ammo. Also, 2 seals on the vacuum bags helps keep the seal

Why not use water tight ammo can with oxy absorbers?

Putting them in zip-lock bags & submerging them in water works too if you don't care for a sealer that uses electricity. Just saying. ✌
