I've owned the food saver one for years and have all the accessories to it, including the mason jar sealer, which comes in super handy for dry goods.

I've had a countertop Foodsaver for 20 years. Never seen this little guy before! Could I replace my countertop one with this one?

@@TracyKMainwaring not completely, but almost. Having both is nice so you can still make custom sized bags. The countertop unit is also a significantly more powerful vacuum. Use it for your long term freeze items and the handheld/resealable bags for stuff you use throughout the week, like meats, cheeses, etc. I'm a germaphobe so I love these machines, i use them for everything, even cereal.

@@jdisdetermined Keeping this thread alive in 2022, one post a year, lol. I have also had a countertop FoodSaver brand sealer for 20+ years but it finally died earlier this year, bought a Nesco this time. I picked up a portable FoodSaver sealer that is more like the size of the Always Fresh shown in this video. It works pretty well, definitely better than how the Always Fresh is shown to work here. The regular mouth and wide mouth mason jar accessories get a lot of use in this house.

I was not even aware these existed! I had one of the big bulky machines from 25 years ago (it was my mom's) and it finally bit the dust. I was AMAZED at the price. As soon as we have some extra funds...I need me one of these!! lol Thanks again James for an amazing and comprehensive review!

I bought the Food Saver and I just found a hack on YT so I can use regular freezer bags rather than their super-expensive Food Saver ones! The video shows them using a paper towel, but I wasn’t impressed with the vacuum pull so I’m using a half dollar-sized crocheted disc. Works super well!!! Thanks for checking these out!! Love your videos!!

The blue one is an auto fail in my books, you have to fidget around to get it to work and it’s going to cost a small Fortune on battery’s over time.

i think the bags were the problem, when he used the other one on the bag he had to fiddle around with it and it was still slow. he never tried using it on the foodsaver bags.

@@WintrBorn This is why I prefer devices that use traditional batteries instead of internal ones. I use Eneloop NiMH's in everything. Low on charge? No need to wait, just dump and reload. Then throw the spent batteries on the charger where time doesn't matter. ;)

I have a full size food saver. I’ve had it for about 25 years. It still works the same. Meat sealed with it and frozen lasts years! Every year when I harvest my veggies, I seal them and freeze them. Fresh corn especially. It minimizes freezer burn. I love it!

Fussing around with the Always Fresh trying to find the right spot would drive me crazy. Ziplock used to make a manual pump vacuum system similar to these. It worked pretty well, but the bags were kind of pricey. For meat/poultry, freeze the item in the bag for an hour or two and then vacuum seal it to keep all the juices in the item. The manual bags slowly lost their seal if juices got in the port.

I have about a dozen different models of manual sealers. My favorite is still the Pump-N-Seal. Their still available online. However, they don't really work on normal zip bags well. The Ziplock bags work pretty good but far too many lose vacuum or never achieve vacuum. Love my FoodSavers.

I have used the food saver for a couple of years now, one thing to *NOTE* ALWAYS check, double check, and maybe triple check the zipper part. MANY MANY times I have gotten food out of my freezer only to find the seal was gone. The bags can sometimes leave a little bit unzipped to where you wont notice because at the time of sealing it works like it's suppose to, but anytime I catch a seal gone I usually run my fingers over the zipper part again with a firm press, and then I almost ALWAYS hear a pop or 2 letting me know it was just enough that didn't close. Rarely is it a defective bag, but I have had a few

This model is more compact and quieter than our older version that this one is replacing. We have done creme brûlée, cookie dough and tons of meat. They all come out perfect every time. I recommend this to EVERYONE. The app is great and easy to use. It stays at a consistent temperature. This model is extremely quiet. I just love it. We also have the anovo sous vide cooker 16L box thing and this fits inside that which is great because I can store them together. I just love that I can set this and walk away to deal with the rest of dinner.

I'm dying over here- watching a (very attractive) man fumble with a buzzing thing in his hand trying to find the right spot. And you said it several times. Took 7 or 8 tries, but still finished first! Trying not to wake anyone up (it's 4:30 in the morning) but I am DYING. In all seriousness, another informative review, though!

Based on your video I Decided on a FoodSaver and I am so impressed! I bought a smaller version and it is strong enough to do exactly what you showed completely gets rid of all the air from the special Ziplocs. Here's a trick for you, you can use the largest size FoodSaver ziplock bag as a container vacuum for smaller regular Ziploc bags. I just froze a bunch of individual burger patties each in their own regular little sandwich bag and vacuum sealed each one inside the large FoodSaver bag :-) saves on buying small-size vacuum sealing bags.

I had a similar hand held vacuum sealer maybe 12 years a go, the Reynolds Handi-Vac. It worked well, but they stopped making the bags for what ever reason. The one improvement that could have been made then, and now, to the vacuum port on the bags is to put a raised ring that's fits just inside of the vacuum port, to help not only guide it quickly into place but make a more reliable seal. The battery powered sealers use a lot of juice and drain batteries fast, so seconds count!

I've had the Foodsaver one for a couple of years now and I love it! You can also use it for marinating, if you get some fluid in the tip you can take it off and wash it. I live up North so I usually take a bunch of burgers, brats, and hotdogs on the grill in the fall and cook a bunch of them. Then I put them in bags and seal them up with the FoodSaver freshsaver, and put them in the freezer so I can have them in the winter time and they still have the cooked out flavor on them. It also comes in great for leftovers when the holiday season rolls around, it's great for turkey leftovers and ham leftovers, you can store a lot of stuff in them in your freezer or fridge, makes it last longer.

I use the Food Saver. It’s great to make yeast rolls and vacuum seal 2 at a time for dinner. I had the big counter top food saver and threw it away. I much prefer the small hand held food saver.

I've used something like this, but it had a manual pump, which worked fine, and of course needs no batteries or recharging. I guess I'd be interested in the rechargeable one, since Reynolds no longer supports the pump. I've used pumps to do quick marinating as well. Because you're creating an anaerobic environment that can foster certain disease causing bacteria like botulism and listeria, caution needs to be used when using these bags. They are generally safe though so long as you're aware and employ safe practices.

With either product frozen meat can be "quick thawed" by placing the sealed bag in a container of cold water. Be sure the bag is completely submerged (I use another container filled with water to weigh down the bag). A pound of hamburger takes about 30 minutes. Bags do not allow water to seep in.

I own a Foodsaver like the one you're using and I've taken regular plastic storage bags, twisted them around the 'horn' part of the device, then vacuumed the air out. Give it a twist for a seal and remove the device without letting air back in. It's a little bit more but it works. I like the device. P.S. Not the bags with the ziplocks, just the regular plastic openings

I’ve been using the Food Savor vacuum sealer for 18 years now and it still does a great job I have bought different attachments and different containers too go along with the food savor system all have proven reliable and has worked as prescribed. The bags for the food savor can be found in Super markets and big named stores also big box store like Cisco, BJ’s, Sams , etc .

I've seen alot of ppl say they use both this & the bigger countertop one but if I can save money lol. I almost wonder if these bags cost more then the bigger ones? @@Mandy_39 These bags are not as good or as cost effective as the bags you heat seal yourself. You will not be saving money with this version over the counter top version. If you want to save money AND get a vacuum sealer, then get a different name brand that is less expensive.

I used the FreshSaver for the past 2 years for freezing garden produce. They last a year and are resealable when a portion of produce is removed. The months long seal failure with the FreshSaver is less than the Ziploc version with the hand pump that is no longer sold. Available at Walmart or Target.

I think both products are good choices, because there's one thing we overlooked. If you left the food saver in your drawer for awhile, then go to use it, odds are, it'll be dead. Whereas throw in some batteries in the always fresh and you're ready to go. So my conclusion is, if you're a frequent vacuum sealer, who also needs the vacuum sealing tubs too, then get the Food Saver. But if you're rarely vacuum sealing or maybe just as a hobby thing from time to time, the always fresh will be good. Just get the food saver bags lol.

I've had the food saver vac sealer for a little over a year and I have noticed that its hit or miss on the bags actually holding the vacuum. and this applies to other vac bags as well, like the zip-lock brand vac bags. also if you want to use the bags to marinate food like steak or fish make sure that you keep the ziplock strip clean from any spices or liquid as that will compromise its ability and it will leak air and not hold the vacuum. I made salmon jerky five months ago and stored it in one of the food saver bags and its still holding the seal even after repeated opening and closing. The food saver vac unit and the bags can also be found at most of the bigger WalMart stores.

As an FYI, If you want to seal Mason jars, look up how to make a jar sealer with a Harbor Freight brake bleeder and Foodsaver accessories. I had a different Foodsaver model, awhile ago. It worked OK (not as good as this one), but I didn't use it as much as I thought I would, and it just collected dust. OTOH, other people doing that has made my regular Foodsaver cheap, from thrift shops, and I do seasonally use it.

I recently purchased some deli-meat containers and they came with a sealing adapter piece that works with my original system. BEST SYSTEM even after YEARS of use! THANKS for your reviews! Great video as always... I bought a vacuum sealer to use with my Sous Vide cooking. and I use it a lot. You Can get rolls of the plastic cut it to size. Vacuum and seal it. I vacuumed and sealed some pork loin chops, put them in the fridge.. forgot about them. They ended up being in there for a MONTH.. Didn't want to risk eating them.. but decide to cook them up and see if they came out ok. If so.. give it to the dog. Surprised that they smelled totally normal... Dog loved the treat. Definitely a good way to save on groceries..

Thanks for the review James, very informative. Your tests give great examples of how the products are used. Are these bags reusable? How hard are they to clean? Typically I turn my Ziplocks inside out to wash them.

So my thoughts on this video is, anyone tuning in to this video might be deciding between the two devices.. They are already sold on the fact that removing air keeps food fresher so the extra comparison between vacuum sealed to non vacuum sealed was probably wasted time to watch. I own a food saver vacuum machine. Not the hand held, but they are a trusted name in vacuum sealing and I could tell from the very first test you did that the foodsaver was much stronger. I would always go with a device that works best over one I don't have to hold. Anyway, keep up the good work. I enjoy watching these videos even if I am not in the market to buy anything.

I have a big food saver and still watched. Personally if another name came out that was better I wouldn't care. The one I own (many moons old now) is much better than the food saver my brother bought last year. His is supposed to be the updated version of mine, feels cheaper and takes longer to seal. Just because it's a leading brand and "updated" doesn't always mean better.

Loved the review. I wish you had tried the Always Fresh vacuum on the Food Saver bag; that way you'd be able to tell if the Always fresh vacuum-bag interaction was the problem (with trying to find the right spot). Loved the vacation mini vlog. You seem to be an excellent father!

i have used the food saver my self and for what i use it for it is a absolute need in the kitchen ... when sealing meats it helps in prevent freezer burn that ruins any kind of meat you put in the freezer ... the foodsaver has been out for i think 10 to 15 years so it has much more experience and accessories ... to hear always fresh needed 3AAA tells me that if you use this a lot your gonna be replacing these very quickly and it will take far longer to vacuum after a number of times while the foodsaver is rechargeable so less cost there so i would recommend the foodsaver if you want the most accessible accessories

one thing i do enjoy about my foodsaver is the marinade ... i can place chicken and marinaded much faster then stander way.... also i want to point out... with your leak test.. i see the food saver had much less air compared to the always fresh in the bags

Definitely the Food Saver for me. It seems one would go thru a ton of batteries just trying to find the right spot (that's what she said) with the Always Fresh. Food Saver appears to have more power and I like that the FS has the vacuum seal containers. Guacamole would stay fresh and green in one of those. It would be worth purchasing just for that reason alone.I'm off to Amazon now. Thanks for the demo and the review!

Great videos as always. Watched every episode. On the Sticky Buddy, I had a similar one that worked great for a few months, as I kept using it weekly, the stickyness got less sticky. Now it hardly works. This type of product doesn't do well over time. Junk...Yes, I did rinse it off as needed.

anybody else want a cookie now? the vacuum seal companies made an agreement to make their bags and devices you're trying to work with each others appliances so customers aren't stuck to one option. I had a daisy seal a meal way back when they came out. found one in the box with lots of bags at an estate sale. still worked great, just can't get bags to fit with the little guide holes. then i had a black and decker that vacuum sealed which was also great, forgot it attached to a wall when i moved. i have the FoodSaver now which i love. a friend told me about the reusable/resealable bags. pretty much all i buy now. the foodsaver has an attachment for these bags, having a hand held would be nice. great review.

I've had the food saver vacuum sealer for about 4 years and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's so fast and easy to use.

I'm actually a little surprised that there wasn't a test to see if the Always Fresh didn't work better and start sealing quicker with the FoodSaver's FreshSaver bags. It did seem like it could have been the Always Fresh bags causing the trouble when it comes to getting the thing to start sealing as it seemed like the FreshSaver had trouble getting started sealing the Always Fresh bags.

This isn't related to the video as such, but it's about the Food Saver. My dad was telling me about the Food Saver infomercials in the late 80's and early 90's for the original Food Saver product. He was saying they were actually the only infomercials he ever watched and they were on at like 3 in the morning on random cable channels "back when we had less than 40 cable channels and only one HBO". According to my dad the guy would vacuum seal everything, and in one particular "episode" he used his first generation Food Saver vacuum sealer to vacuum seal everything he took camping with him. My dad said it was "ridiculous watching some middle aged guy vacuum sealing his underpants and then going canoeing.. Then later he would use the food he'd vacuum sealed to feed his friends.. My dad was like 'Damn I hope he prepared that food before he vacuum sealed his underpants'".

Lol!!! Yes back in the dark ages. Hell I remember before cable tv existed. You had about 10 channels on 2 different frequencies that all would stop broadcasting at 2 am

@@robertkiefer8967 I've heard of the old ways, I think I like the new ways better. I do remember (vaguely) the big old tv's but my dad is a tech guy so we were pretty earlier getting a flat screen. I can't imagine 10 channel of tv though, my current service is piped in on fiber optics and we have around 600 channels and a gigabit internet connection. Ironically I do believe we still suffer the problems you guys did.. "600 channels and there's not one thing worth watching on".

Well we don’t have the flying cars yet, but we have so many of the things I dreamed of as a kid. As I write this I have a robot vacuuming my floor (Jetsons), a Star Trek communicator/tricorder (iPhone) in my pocket and a Dick Tracy phone watch (Apple Watch) on my arm. Not to mention the Phillips Hue lights or the August smart lock on my front door which I named “Pod Bay Door” (2001 Space Odyssey). I don’t have 600 channels but I do have 3 Apple TV’s and 5 streaming services and between them can find just about any show or movie out there. Yet like you said still hard to find something I want to watch. I guess that part will never change.

I use a full sized food saver with rolls of bag material for sous vide and general storage. It has a hose that pulls out to suction these kinds of baggies and also vacuum seals mason jars. Definitely recommend to everyone. using regular baggies and plastic wrap is just throwing money in the garbage.

Gonna pause 5min 31sec in to write this, I've already seen enough from the lil blue sad thing to know that even if it worked better at overall saving of items, the sheer annoyance of fumbling around with it would make me want the Foodsaver even if it did half the quality job. We also own a full on Foodsaver vacuum rig, so.... Its the hope that when that name shows up, its defending the quality we already know and love.

How does the always fresh do on the food saver bags? Does it still have a hard time finding the spot?

Reviews on the food saver consistently say that they stop working after a few months. I highly recommend a follow up video on whether it still works in 90 days. Thanks for you great videos!

Love my food saver. I have the counter top version, but it has the accessories to use the bags too. One thing you didn't answer, are both bags the same quality. Thickness and strength.

Great job dude! I’ve only been watching for a little while now but you already saved me from buying the water powered flashlight and now this. I almost skipped this video since I’ve never thought of buying a vacuum sealer but you sold me. For the convenience and the low price it’s worth it. I just bought a Freshsaver, 18 bags and the deli containers for $42 from Walmart and I’m sure I could have saved a couple bucks more if I shopped around.

I have been using Food Saver products for over 2 decades and my original FOODSAVER VAC550 from those "Infomercials" on late night television ... I still have it and it's still working very well! Granted, the rubber isn't in the best of shape and it is more a smoked ivory colour than white, it still is a good device. I bought a newer one with the Foodsaver can, bag and tupperware sealer attachment and I must say, I haven't used the attachment, but after watching this video.. I think I just might start doing that! It has a long history in this market, so not a surprise that it came out on top. It's too bad, I kinda like that you can almost leave the Always Fresh hands free, but it's too fumbly from your review, kind of weak and they need to design the bags a lot better. All in all, great review and very informative!

About 8 years ago, I bought a Debbie Meyers (4 AA battery) handheld sealer. It's got a strong vacuum like the Foodsaver. Strong enough to give you a hickey.
