Really like all the info that display gives you. Are most heat pumps like this in terms of comprehensive info on your usage by day, week, month etc? Love gadgets!

3,65 scop, is that with dhw? Seems like the added zoning and pump should detract from the scop.

Would I be able to build one slab for the heat pump to sit on as long as it has a soak away for the defrost mode?

I see you have a buffer tank. I was told I wouldn’t need one with my Vaillant system but I have a similar setup to this home in terms of underfloor heating in the large kitchen/diner and lounge. But radiators on the 1st and 2nd floor (loft conversion). Any advice please? They recommended a 7kW Vaillant and my heat loss calc was 6kW.

Great to see such a tidy install, including the care put into insulating the pipework! Can the outdoor unit be installed on a roof of high up a wall? Are there constraints related to the R290 refrigerant to consider on the placement of the unit?

With the multiple zones, multiple underfloor zones, buffer and secondary pumps I would think 3.65 as a SCOP is high. Ideally remove the buffer, remove the two secondary pumps remove the actuators on the underfloor heating as well as the mixer valve on the underfloor manifold. install flow gauges next to the zone valves and do the calcs depending on the max flow rate requirement of each zone. the system needs minimum 55l of water so you could use the buffer as a accumulator on the return if the underfloor is too small as a single zone. Its a great install nut I do think the Valliant design assumes the installer doesn't understand hydronics.

Would it be a much simpler (read cheaper) installation to use the new Vaillant uniTOWER with the aroTHERM? - I'm looking to replace an old Y-plan boiler. The tower could go where the boiler is now with the ASHP under the old flue.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
The Unitower is a great bit of kit and we are big fans. It really comes down to hot water demand and the size of the heating system as the buffer is only 20 litres. Also this was an installation that took place when product was extremely difficult to obtain. We will be presenting a video featuring the Unitower very soon

Hi, struggling to find some info. Does the sensocomfort act as a room stat too or just a programmer and display screen? I thought with an external weather comp sensor theres no need for indoor stats? Id like to run ufh ground floor and radiators upstairs by 2 mixed units or 1 mixed 1 unmixed.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
Hi Dan, Yes it can be used as a room thermostat if required but equally if you have 3rd party stats they can be used and the SensoComfort will just take care of the installer level requirements, flow temp, heat curve etc .
@handle1196
@handle1196 Год назад
@@dorewoodman thanks, its for a self build not started, but didnt think i required any indoor room stats. An installer was saying i would have 2 sensocomforts, one on each floor and an outdoor weather sensor. I thought indoor influence would clash with the weather comp which only monitored the return water

@@dorewoodman yeah, i put in the first message, ufh, radiators and 1 or 2 mixed units to control the heating curve and create two heat zones. I can see you have 1 pump and 3 zone valves but what blends the zones down that require the least heat?

Hi John, it can certainly be beneficial to control each room/zone as some areas of the property will/can be warmer than others. We generally zone each area when installing UFH.

Did you install or design and install? If design - what was the calculated heat loss for the building and did you also do a thermal imaging survey of the house exterior (new build houses are notorious for poorly installed cavity wall and other insulation?
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 3 года назад
Hi Norman, we designed and installed for this new build. We have also been involved with the clients and the project throughout so we have seen the levels of insulation that have been implemented to all cavity walls, ceilings, floors and loft space. These particular clients have been involved with the build day to day and were/are extremely fastidious on the detail and the level of quality from the contractor managing the build.

Hi, what heat curve does the pump run with a flow temp of 50 degrees ? And is weather compensation active also
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
The heat curve for a radiator circuit is usually at around 1.2 and for UFH 0.8 and yes that will be active in weather compensation

What would the rough cost of supply and install for the heat pump, cylinder and buffer tank please? We are looking to have one installed in a new build in the Bristol area and we trying to work out if this is within our budget.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 3 года назад
Hi R Harrison, thank you for your message. It will be dependant on placement of heat pump and ancillaries etc but I would expect it to be IRO £11.5k to £13k. If the system is installed and commissioned before the end of March 2022, you will be entitled to apply for the RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) which is the 7 year payback scheme. It is all dependant on the final EPC but the national average is approx. £7,000 so £1,000 per year. The maximum payback is circa £12k over a 7 year period. I hope that helps.

What is the maximum length between interior and exterior machines?
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Hi Mario, there is no official maximum length, the closer the better for efficiency. The key factor is you will need to achieve the minimum flow rate in the system so a larger circulation pump may have to be considered.

@@dorewoodman there's so much to learn here. Sorry new to this. My setup is a S system megaflo (horizontal) with Vaillant boiler. I didn't want it use the Vsmart as it's budget offering so going Senso home just realised I need the SensoNet. Is there anything else I need to get this working effectively? I'm worried the installer might be missing stuff.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 3 года назад
@@dwainDigital it isn't too bad once you get to grips with it. It is a very good way to achieve the best efficiencies for your heating system so well done on that front. The sensoHOME will just require the the sensoNET to support for access via your phone/tablet, very easy to use and will show you information about your system and any faults etc. Wired or wireless is available and you could go one more level and install AmbiSense - they are basically controlled TRVs for zoning rooms instead of floors if you required. More costly and not essential but if you are quite techy and wanted more control it is a good option.

Two comments: 1. All that to replace a small gas combi at 20% of the price? 2. I know it has to be done but it just makes no logical sense to have all that kit (no matter how beautiful an instal it is) to replace a simple gas boiler. I tell you what my friends are saying; they will replace their old gas boilers when the dead line is approaching so they can avoid all of this. Morally, that’s not right but I can see their point. Heat pumps and that huge instal are great in new build properties and the gov should bring forward the requirement to instal to 2022. For anything else….that’s far more complicated.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Thank you for your comment. This is an example of a large new build with a great space to work in and wouldn't necessarily be applied to or exactly the same for every home. We have successfully installed systems that have only required an area of 800mm x 800mm in many existing homes. We are aware that a heat pump will not be suitable for every single home and we certainly do not expect to replace every boiler in the UK with a heat pump but there are many situations and housing stock which are suitable for this technology. We have found that many people who wish to change to a greener alternative want to do so as they feel that is morally correct and want to "do their bit for the environment" so I think it is fair to say that there is a difference of opinion up and down the UK. Thanks again

whilst I was originally thinking along the same lines, there's talk now of shifting green levies off electricity, and onto gas. This change would obviously alter the cost dynamic involved, and along with the very real current prospect that energy prices will double by end of 2022, ASHP do seem to make more sense. Add to the mix that new build gas boilers are outlawed by 2025, do you think boiler manufacturers will still continue to do R&D and release products, and again, the price will probably rocket. Where's Mystic Meg when you need her eh ?
