In this episode we look at the Vaillant Arotherm Plus. We replaced an Oil Boiler with this heat pump in an existing home.
The homeowners could not stand the continuous smell of Kerosene whenever they came home or tried to enjoy the garden and they were very keen to look at a green and sustainable alternative to provide heating and hot water throughout the year.

Hi - Enjoyed your video. Very informative. As a random comment - your irises seem different colours. With the right eye being brown and the left bluey-green. Probably been there a long time and it's just a natural feature. However - there is a condition called Fuchs Heterochromic Iridocyclitis which causes one eye to go more bluey that the fellow eye. Sorry to point this out - might be just the lighting.

Im so glad I found your channel Dore. Lots of great honest info you got here! We're in the Balearics and looking to change our boiler. We've been quoted an Estia set-up - would you have any comment about the Toshibas in comparison with the Arotherm PLus or the Mitsubishi? After watching that "other" video pretty much slating air source heat pumps. but not really backing it up with any honest info and showing only old heat pumps, its kind of sowed a seed of doubt. thanks again!

Hi Joey P, thank you for your comment. I am glad you have found it useful and you have enjoyed the content. As for the Toshiba, I believe this is a split system, so that will require refrigerant pipework between the indoor and outdoor unit, most of the heat pumps installed here are Monobloc so that the engineers don't necessarily need to be F Gas trained. These heat pumps are not recognised as such for their Air to Water products in the UK, I know the Air to Air products are very good. I don't know how the weather in the winter compares to where you are but things to consider are, what are the flow temperatures you require for heating, at the coldest of temperatures what will the heat pump output be, for example if you require an 8 KW heat pump will you get 8 kw with a flow temperature of 50 degrees at 0 degrees outside? I have seen units that will only deliver 6 kw for example even though it was classed as an 8kw.

What would you say is the absolute most silent unit on the market right now? I'd love to get one but live in a housing estate and don't want to upset the neighbors.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Hi, I would say the Vaillants Arotherm Plus and the Mitsubishi Ecodan are the quietest of units. In our other videos you can hear the noise levels of each unit. The thing to do is look at the potential siting of the heat pump itself and your potential installer can judge and measure the position to neighbouring properties and calculate the noise levels.

It's very difficult finding someone who can fix or reset an ASHP, all they want is to charge as much as they can from new installations and annual servicing, that includes the shoddy company in Doncaster, Project Heating Ltd who installed mine.

Do you need a smart meter for it to provide the energy prices and consumption
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Hi Dan, not necessarily. You should have a digital phase meter installed that will indicate the kwh used and the interface will also have the energy consumption data available.

This looks like exactly the set up that I would need as we have a oil boiler in our garage, what sort of cost would we be looking at for this? I’m just in the process of upgrading the property, what advice would you give to retro fit one of these regarding rad sizes?

Hi Dore, my Vaillant ait source heat pump is working but not heating the radiators enough. They just get luke warm. I noticed the double fans in the outside unit are not turning as fast as before. For the hot water, it runs fine but as soon as i need heating they are alot slower. Our first service wss about 5 months ago. Thanks in advance. Im in Glasgow

Thanks for this - I note that the Vaillant is capable of flow temperatures of up to 75 degrees which seems ideal for an old property like mine where I intend on having UFH downstairs and CH radiators upstairs. However, is there any guidance from Vaillant (or you) on how best to specify the upstairs radiators? Should I use the standard calculated radiators sizes (BTUs/Watts) for a given room or should I add 50%? Also, what would Vaillant/you suggest on towel radiators - can I use one to heat a room and/or should I incorporate an electric element as well?
@Timberjagi
@Timberjagi Год назад
So yes in the summer they can get up to 75 degrees, in the winter its a bit lower (my experience around 60/65 at -5) but normally still enough for decent size radiators

Hi, thanks for the vid. Is the 7kw the input power or the output heating power?
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
That is the heat output of the unit, although dependent on flow temperature and external temperature it can achieve up to around 9kw

Can you tell me is there any difference between 220v vs 400v? I mean in terms of efficiency and power, are they exactly the same or the monophaze is weaker than the three phase model?!

Hi Dore, nice video. Actually we have bought Vaillant aroTHERM Plus 7kW to replace our Combi LPG boiler and hoping to be fitted by a plumber. It turns out nobody wants to help, or is to busy with new dev, or charges way too much money, and we are stuck with the pump... Not sure about this Eco approach anymore and it looks like we have wasted our time and cash onto system that is not actually there yet around here...

@@MichalPodobycko LU7 is out of our catchment unfortunately. I will just say if you are looking to gain the RHI you will need to engage with an MCS accredited business. What is the size of the space for the cylinder and buffer? Have you carried the correct heat loss for the property?
@MichalPodobycko
@MichalPodobycko 2 года назад
@@dorewoodman That's a shame, let me know if you know anyone on this side of LDN... We are not even looking for RHI. Next March/April incentive would help though, if this will be easily accessible for end front consumer ... There is about 560mm max space available in width, and plenty of depth space Heat loss was carried few times, and we have prepared our house accordingly (external house insulation, radiators etc.). This saves a nice chunk of LPG anyway, but it's a shame we are unable to finish the actual job...

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply . I ask because our installer is suggesting two ecodans 11kw cascaded . All I see on RU-vid from installers of quality is the use of Vaillant , the installer argues vaillant controls were variations of their gas boiler controls and that their customer service is rubbish . This is leaving me in a quandary , of course it may be to do with supply discounts from either and they make more money on the ecodans ,,however they do have a good reputation on installs

Be aware that unless you have a new home to a high standard of insulation etc your electricity bill could be huge! The cost of all this and the cost of your electricity bill would seriously damage your wealth.

if it's calculated well it's often cheaper than gas, ofcourse if your house is very badly insulated that should always be the first step, that would also save you a enormous amount of gas as well

is the Arotherm Plus designed to self diagnose if their is a refrigerant leak?
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Hi Nicks, I wouldn’t say self diagnose but it will detect the leak as the pressures and refrigerant temperatures will be all over the place and produce a fault code to indicate an issue.
