Bekele didn't even look tired at the end of the race lol. Could probably still run a sub-60 final 400 at the end of a marathon at the age of 41. Greatest distance runner of all-time.
@@houston_rocketsh1325 let's wait to see if Kiptum does a Kimetto (good for 2 years then disapear), or actually wins dozen of titles during 20 years like Bekele and Kipchoge. Only difference with records so far are the shoes... If Bekele had 4th or 5th generation of carbon shoes when he was 20...
They might have mentioned that Bekele in running 2:04:19 has absolutely obliterated the masters world record, and given himself a chance of qualifying for Paris.
@@JayB2 yeah, Ethiopia was implied so I just said Kenya. Isn't it incredible though?! I was so proud to see him coming out of nowhere for that top 5. I had lost sight of him for most of the race. One of my favourite athletes of all time. So happy to see him perform so well 🙂
At 41 yrs old ,Bekele is great,we must appreciate his presence. His body is exhausted unlike his compatriots so young energetic. He done so well to be 4th meaning capable of shocking the world at some point
Cheptegei was there for real. He didn't participate only to extend his fame of 5K and 10K. He was there for real full course marathon no matter what(might've been more likely the case where if he wasn't to fulfill or get close to what the public anticipated, he could've chosen the face-saving option of dropping out instead of completing the quest in that agonizing form and let it be seen by everyone). Not many professionals do that. I think it shows his true character and his genuiness for the sport. Absolute respect, Joshua!
I don't care what anyone says, Joshua Cheptegei is a warrior. went out of his comfort zone to run his first marathon and despite the struggles, he still managed to finish well inside 2.10 and finish the race. A real role model.
Congratulations to the champions for an outstanding performance and the other athletes on a fine race featuring couse records, personnel bests, national records. Thank you for posting and all the best.
Good catch! It's actually Bernard Ngeno, the pacemaker who dropped out way earlier than expected. You can see at 19:58 (left picture, runner on the right) that he already dropped out after just 6 km. I would really like to know if the collision is the reason for that. Since his half marathon personal best is faster than those of the other two pacemakers, he would be expected to stay the longest, until about 30 km.
Quedarse sobre el kilómetro 8 y. Hacer dos horas y cuatro minutos con 41 años y en solitario me parece una de las mayores gestas de los últimos años …… Bekele ……Forever
Crazy to me that age 40+ is considered ‘Masters’ given that this is prime time for many athletes particularly endurance athletes and even more so if they were elite prior to the age of 40; most are still elite/world class well into the 40s. Masters should be reserved for 50+ imo.
@@frodo5882 Triathlon, running, cycling, swimming to name a few. Look up some of the athletes who are in their 40s who’ve been and who are world class amongst all age groups. Some have one grueling stage races in cycling, others gold medals, etc. My point is there are many athletes in their 40s who are competing at overall top levels. Performance really starts to drop off at 50+, not in your 40s. Bekele just ran a 2:04 n some change at age 41, his fastest marathon in 4 years; I’d call that prime time.😄.
The fact that athletes are able to be competitive into their 40s does not mean it's their 'prime time'. Do you think Kenenisa at 41 is a better runner than he was in his 20s setting WRs and doubling at championships? Maybe we should ask Bernard Lagat if he felt like he was better in the early 2000s compared to the 2010s.. Let alone discussing the well documented studies showing decline in VO2max by age past the 30s.
Am I looking at this wrong. I saw leading men side and leading women but I saw mostly men on the leading women side of the screen. I guess the women merged with the men at some point.
Thanks for sharing. So grateful to be a Proud Finisher Dublin City Marathon. I just don't want to be a finisher I want to be among the best. Can't wait for what next year holds Lord😊😅😂🫡❤️💪
