It is nice to see that there are still quite a few of these beauties around, much alive and kicking. They are in excellent condition, too! Long live the DS, the most beautiful car ever made!
Valerie most definitely has the best custodians she could ever want. Elegance, style and comfort. A masterpiece. In my humble opinion, the most outstanding creation ever on four wheels. Her playful party trick, to drive safely on three wheel's. What a lady. A Goddess.
Everything about these cars was so smooth and soothing. From the uncannily gorgeous exterior to the interior to the ride.Even the engine was relaxed. The sound reminded me of a purring cat.
I stil remember my first DS, it was a secondhand of two years old I bought in 1971. When I started to drive with it I was a little bit scared because I could not feel the road. But after a few kilometers....WHAT A CAR!!! It is one of those typical French products that convinced me the French are the best engineers in the wolrld. When they wouldn't have stopped the production I would stil drive a DS. Nobody ever improved this amazing car. A big shame they don't make the DS anymore.
Yes the DS is an exceptional engineering achievement...modern cars do not compare in comfort or style. When profit is the only goal excellence suffers.
@@truthseeker8483 I remember riding in 1 of these a couple times growing up in Jamaica in the 70's & let me tell you , till this day, its the smoothest riding car ive ever rode in .Many modern day luxury cars or s.u.v's dont close to this car with smooth riding.
If the DS would be introduced today, people would be just as amazed as I was in 1956. Yes I am that old, she was my first "Love". Only god knows why, but as a little kid, I had never seen anything more beautiful than that. Now I am an old kid, and still love the DS, 64 years later ,and I am still as exited as in 1956. What a beautiful Video , thanks to all involved creating this. Greetings from a warm YVR, Bas.
I wish you to enjoy this lovely car for many many years to come, my father used to had one, a 1976 model, since 1992 and we travel from Greece, all over Europe for 12 amazing summers. By far the most comfortable car i ever drove and travel with it, i really miss it a lot. Too bad Citroen abandon hydrolic suspention in today models.
Our wedding car was a '72 DS exactly like the one shown here, same color and everything. I remember it as being supremely comfortable and technologically amazing. In all those years l don't think I've seen another one.
my late uncle had one of them in this gorgeous metallic honey color back in the 70's...he also had a garage that specialized in servicing and maintaining all these French marvels of that era (GS, Dyane, 2CV, CX, SM, etc.)....I really beg everyone that reads this post, if you've never had the chance to ride in one of these engineering masterpieces, please do it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...! it is truly a transcending experience. NOTHING prepares you of the astonishing way this suspension works. This is the most important car in automotive history....
Franchement c'est une belle voiture qu'elle coupe toujours d'actualité 50 ans plus tard MR Carlos Tavares qu'attendez-vous pour nous sortir un modèle quasiment identique en 2020 succès garantie.
I'm imagining what public reaction would be to a similar design, with DS suspension, contemporary 'refinements', and a boxer 4 or 6 under the bonnet - say 3.5 litre... God bless Citroen and French innovation, engineering, style and common sense!
Magnificent car and scenery. Love the scene from slightly above, beside the waterfall 6.15 to 6.25 - extraordinarily beautiful car in magic location. In Australia in 1977 I acquired the same car at the age of 24. A Sable (gold) 1972 DS21 EFI Pallas with brown leather and headrests. Mine was a 5 speed manual instead of the iconic 4 speed Citromatic hydraulic clutch semi auto of your DEESE in silver, and it had a Sable roof instead of the dark roof. A loungeroom rocket, or serene majestic gentleman's study on wheels. Eminantly enchanting in both modes.... loved this car. The ultimate high speed cruiser on the Aussie open road. Everywhere low flying Citroen float style at 160 kph, before they dropped open road limits to 100 kph & freeways 110 kph. Bloody mind numbing limits which breed totally unskilled drivers muddling along in the 'fast lane' creeping past lorries petrified to exceed 110 kph. Mine was capable of 167 kph in 4th gear @ 6,000 rpm then slip it into overdrive 5th, which gave you 160 kph @ 4,300 rpm winding out to 185 kph - more on the downhill..... I sold the DS in early 1978 to take delivery of a new CX2400 EFI Prestige 5 speed with leather for a year in UK, followed by 5 supreme months touring Europe before shipment back to Australia. My week day car for work in the UK was a 2CV6 Club. The CX Prestige was the same wheelbase as the DS @ 123 inches and 160 kph in 5th @ 4,300 rpm, winding out to 195 kph on the drum speedo and tacho. Power self centring steering, footrests and headrests for the rear seat passengers, plus rear shelf sunshades and back door sunvisors. Even better than a DS in the rear... and a lot quieter. All 3 Citroens enchanting in their own ways... Later in 1986 the siren call of the Goddess enchanted me once more. A friend was selling his one owner 1974 DS23 EFI 5 speed Pallas in Electric Blue with Blue Jersey. It was a wonderful car. But the 1972 Pallas in leather would 'go harder' and held a more enduring enchantment for me. I was really in tune with this car. Even got it airborne once charging through desolate countryside at night with the swivelling high beam lights scanning our way ahead.... No other car leaves such an indelible imprint in one's psyche.... a car with soul.
As a teenager in the 60's the difference between driving in my '64 Ford Mustang and a Citroen DS was light day and night. It was the most civilized car I had ever experienced. The DS seats were the most comfortable I had ever sat in, and the ride was pure luxury.
Beautifull car. My father had the later Citröen CX Pallas. I remember reading somewhere that they were known to have crushed a sleeping cat or two as the suspension gradually settled back down.
Magnificient. The Citroën DS is a Godess, or like we say in France, "la Déesse". Its curves are wonderful, and the "shark nose" with the 4 headlights makes it just a little more aggressive since 1968. You knew what you had to do when this face was growing in your mirrors on the motorway in the 1970s... I'm a young men but I'm dreaming about this car. This one is particularly beautiful, with its black roof/metallic grey body combination, and its brown tabacco leather interior. And it's a 21EFI (Injection Électronique) with the hydraulic semiautomatic gearbox...
See the other video of the same car on RU-vid under 'A Real DS Adventure.' Message me if you're coming to Ireland (on that channel) if you want to meet the car!
Not all. You just don't see the ones that have soul. Also, not all cars from this era (1972) had "soul" as you put it, so this isn't much about comparing time periods.
It should be forbidden to demolish these beautiful DS cars even if they are not in working condition or use in movies where they crash these. We must take good care of these treasures that is still left.
I wish Citroen would make a modern retro version of the DS, I reckon it would sell very well. Such an iconic car, if I could afford one I buy one tomorrow.
Absolutely no overshoot over the hump back bridge. I doubt active suspension could do any better. An engineering tour de force. I only wish it had received a more sophisticated engine. Moreover it superseded another tour de force, the Traction Avant, in my book one of the most stylish cars. Yeah. I'm a Francophile.
A very nice DS-film, indeed! Thank you! But I wonder where it was recorded. England, Scotland, Wales, Hebrides or maybe Australia? Also see my trailer for my DS-film (unfortunately only in swedish): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cHbWEKtroBU.html
A nice little DS-film! Where was this filmed? In England, or perhaps Scotland or Wales, or......? And always use the dipped beam on when you film the car. Looks much better than with lights off.
It wasn't Charleville Castle, it was Duckett's Grove, near Carlow in Ireland. We also filmed in Wicklow Mountains, Emo Court in Laois and near Castledermot in Kildare at a place called Kilkea. Chris & Yanis
The DS 21 is the most beautifull ugly car ever produced, together with the 2 CV also from Citröen! I have few models of both, in 1/43 and 1/18, and some day I will have a real one of each, like this on the film! Very nice music and images! Thanks!
It's a expression that means, in this specific case, a car with unusual design, ugly for some people and very nice to others. As simple as that! I do like it very much!
I still have my first Citroën, a Corgi 1956 DS 19. It is my favorite toy car for ever. My first Citroën was a 1971 DS 21 Pallas hydraulic shift. Nice tan leather interior. It was badly rusted so when it was sagging in the middle its engine went into my 1971 DSpécial, making a DSpécial 21. Most of the Pallas interior went into the DSpécial. My other Citroëns were a 1970 ID21FH Break, a 1969 ID21F Break, two 1972 SM 5 speeds. These are the only cars I have really liked and enjoyed driving.
