Nice explanation Doc. I was confused at the beginning and about the need to use all of the methods or not then you mentioned it at the end of the vid. Lol that why it’s important to listen to before asking questions. On the other hand, if your mixing ur research qualitative and quantitative , can you u like do cornbachs alpha for reliability and one or more of these methods for validity ??
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 3 года назад
absolutely, in mixed methods research applying validity and reliability checks typical to Quant research to your Quant phase would strengthen the study even more

Thank you very much! This helped me a lot. I would like to use the three threats (respondent bias, researcher bias & reactivity) you mention in a study, is there a specific (academic) source I can cite which recognizes these threats as well?

Hi ! Yes, I think I gave the reference under the video, but if not, you can find it in this blog article, the guy is Robson, I think drkriukow.com/validity-and-reliability-in-qualitative-research/

Hi Dr, I am about to complete my results and discussion chapters of my doctorate thesis and I would like to know whether or not making hypothesis in qualitative research is compulsory? If yes why?, if not, what is the advantage of making hypotheses?
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 4 года назад
Having a hypothesis in Qualitative research is definitely NOT compulsory. In fact, usually this just does not happen at all. Hypothesis is something very characteristic to Quant research. Sometimes, as a qualitative researcher, you may investigate some "working hypotheses" as you analyse your data (so, some spontaneous leads, etc.), but the term hypothesis is so uncommon in Qual research that most supervisors would even discourage you from using the above term "working hypotheses".

Hello Dr, my last question is: if I choose the following validity strategies: Peer review, triangulation and participant feedback , how to prove these feedback in my thesis? do I have to join an email capture of the feedback as an appendix? or what exactly? Thanks for answering me.

you don't, you may just report on the kind of feedback you received

Thank you so much. I have a question. How to write up a peer review that I received from a colleague on my data results analysis? I am currently writing a dissertation, i.e., results. How detailed do I need to describe the peer review of my coding? Where to put it in the dissertation? Thank you so much.
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 3 года назад
I'm not sure but I think this would just be something to put in the methods chapter when you explain what you did to increase validity of the findings
@bosyrotiak
@bosyrotiak 3 года назад
@@qualitativeresearcher Thank you so much. I will do that. I journaled about the peer review and that is an audit trail that will increase the validity of my research, I think. I am putting a short note that the peer review took place. I see this being the common practice in the qualitative research work. Your answer confirms that. BTW, I am learning so much from your videos. I am grateful for the videos. I really enjoy hearing your interviews with other scientists. I am so excited to be part of your audience and the scientific community. I always wanted to write...and now writing is all that I do. I am writing up data results. It is challenging. I am looking forward to seeing new videos of yours. Thank you. Dziekuje. PS. I am in Poland right now but normally I live and work in the States.

Is this different from testing the reliability and validity?
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 2 года назад
These are measures to increase validity, there is no way to test it in Qual research, but you can take steps to maximize it

why the use of quantitative instruments to gauge qualitative work? are there alternatives to validity and reliability - exclusively qualitative instruments?
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 3 года назад
validity is a concept applied to qualitative data too
@abszradavadason1618
@abszradavadason1618 3 года назад
@@qualitativeresearcher from my reading of Creswell, I think it is 'reluctantly' applied, for a lack of a better instrument.
@qualitativeresearcher
@qualitativeresearcher 3 года назад
@@abszradavadason1618 it is true that other alternative terms have been suggested. Overall, however, the point is the same - to make sure that the findings represent the reality as closely as possible. I would not agree that there is a lack of a better instrument, because this is not an instrument in the first place, just a set of procedures. Most of them do make sense in considering that their aim is to increase the overall credibility and trustworthiness of the findings
