I was sending Karl in to fix the Edelweiss (which was at critical health and right next to Maxamillion) but he couldn't reach it. So I had him chuck a grenade instead. It actually killed him. I accidentally beat the game with F'ing Karl!
Karl is a real homie. He saved my underleveled ass way too often.Plus, he gets a cute, badass girlfriend by the end.Guy is basically an action movie protagonist. :P
Everyone's sharing their experiences so though I'm 14 years late to the party, I just finished this game last night and this was mine: Max does his cinematic overcharge and I don't know what's coming, just that after some apprehension, he didn't do anything but trudge slowly into range of my frontlines. I figure he might do something bad next turn so I want to end it here. Four command points later and the towers are down. Marina sniped the centre one and my already nearby frontlines (including Edelweiss) tore down the other two and were all lined up to unload onto Max. On a whim, Largo was nearby so I gave him the order to focus fire and lined him up with the frontline to fire a rocket into Max's face. It did a good amount of damage but not enough to risk my remaining CP on pushing that idea. It was fun, but I played it safe after that and just made the shocktrooper on the frontlines fire into him repeatedly with assistance from the scout and the weiss. Now the kicker. That shocktrooper was Rosie. The scout was Alicia. I killed Max with a line-up of Welkin, Alicia, Rosie and Largo, purely by accident. He got main casted. Best of all, Rosie's character arc was my favourite one in the game so I'm really proud that she got to deal the final blow.
That’s such an epic climax! =D Just imagine all four of them shouting some choice quotable lines each in turn as they unleash on Max all at once, while this music theme flourishes dramatically or something, lol! I just completed the final mission for the first time last week, myself, so 14 years late isn’t too late at all for this awesome game!
This song does an incredible job at feeling like a truly desperate battle for freedom. The foreboding music of the Maximilian establishes itself as we're confronted with his Artificial Valkyria, but the triumphant and hopeful theme of the Gallian Militia quickly cuts it off as Squad 7 charges forward, confronting Maximilian and the Empire one last time. As Maximilian's Valkyrian powers and desperation grow, his theme takes control again, but the ever resilient Squad 7 continues to fight, and their theme interrupts Maximilian's once more, never giving up. And then we reach a dramatic, but quiet end, even if the fight isn't over just yet, its outcome has been decided. Gallia will be free.
For me, these were the final voices Max heard for me: "SHOOTING TIME!" Also, helping him with the killing blow at the time:"HI, IM TED!" "DANCE PUNK" "Your Going down!" And last but not least: "Please Hit!" Anyone who can recognize and respond are full of win.
Maximillian: Supreme Commander of the Gallia Invasion forces, Artificial Valkyrur, rode into Gallia aboard a -Land Faring Arsenal Gear- Battleship on Treads Killed by sky pirates from another fucking game, and a Belgian Waffle girl.
Here are your final orders. The time has finally come to settle things with Maximilian. I assume he's capable of neutralizing any attack you send his way, the same as the other Valkyrur we've seen. That said, Maximilian's Valkyrian powers are the result of some device. They're artificial. I'm certain he'll have a weak point somewhere on that deck. Find it, then lob every bullet and bomb you've got at it. Your objective is to defeat Maximilian, once and for all. Take that maniac out and put an end to this war, 7's. And while it may not stop bullets, I hope you won't forget that you go with an entire nation's hopes for peace. All right, we're all set to begin. Let's take Gallia back with our own hands, 7's! This is our final operation! Let's end this war! Squad 7, move out!
I remember when Max started doing that circular field attack and being so paniced... I knew I needed to take him out that following turn or I'd lose the weis and everything... That last thing he heard was "HI I'M TED!"
My first playthrough, I had somehow NOT used any Orders, so I bled for every rank I got. Beating Maximillion took me 45 minutes because I couldn't seem to damage him more than he could heal. My saving graces? Engineers resupplying my scouts with rifle grenades. I'd hit him from behind levels and obstacles, chipping away at him until I had to bring out Largo and/or Fox sniper (cuz I can't remember her name sadly) to take out those antennae. This ost really made the battle feel climatic all the way through. Even Maximillion's almost magnetic-sounding stomps as he casually walked through our squad's retaliating fire added to the scene.
For me it was Rosie with orders stacked such that her accuracy was literally a pinprick sized dot on the screen and I could headshot from across the map without it being possible to miss. Oh and she was using the Ruhm so the enemy was getting about 100 bullets in the face every turn. On other missions she was shooting tanks in the radiators and everything was exploding.
I wish the entire soundtrack was scored by an orchestra - but I am so happy this was one of the tracks selected to be recorded by a live symphony. You can tell there aren't any synthesized instruments and there's a different power and intensity knowing that it's all created by live humans. Would LOVE to hear this performed by a professional orchestra live!
In my playthrough I did this fight in 2 turns using a level 20 Aisha (the 12 year old shocktrooper) who had ultimate damage boost and was equipped with the high clip capacity machine gun, I just parked the edelweiss and shamrock next to her for combined attack and unloaded into his face
I forgot I could use Mortar Fire. I just focused on the Tried and True Smoke Bomb SoA Guest Character with Max Anti-Personnel Damage (I'm feeling EXTREME!) and then just have him mow through the towers and Maxi.
Glorious vanquishment incoming! 0:10 feels like greco-latin historic battles, the Gubernator had premonitions of total death and annihilation and refulgent hopeful for victory while being legitemly stressed by not prefigurated fights with a negative and affective interpretation of them, the part at 1:04 just screams the troops following and behaving instinctively and indepedantly.
^_^ love this song when the song gets epic. hell i think it did something to Vyse since he ended up beating the crap of Maximillian with dodging all the attacks and hit every his when i sent him to attack after the towers was taken out.
I've heard this this years ago ago and made a soundtrack based off this from scratch. I didn't realize this was Japanese til now, therefore I need to play this game
Honestly, if you weren't already doing that BEFORE the final mission... well, you were in for a rough time lol Tanks were invented originally to shield advancing infantry from enemy fire in WWI - anyone who didn't shield their units with the tanks in VC must have struggled lol
Everyone's talking about the love story here, lol. I thought the best part of the game's story was that the romantic subplot was so casual. Hell, it seems like the two are in an offscreen relationship for most of the game, IMO. I was shocked that they played up the kiss scene so much, to tell the truth.
Capt. Dahau turn: *Issues "Call back" order* *Attack with Echidna turrets x3* *End of turn* *Missile salvo takes place* *You lose the Nameless tank and 2 units for not taking cover in time*
Ahhh, I finished this game last night. After a failed attempt I said: F IT. WE BALL and sent in four shocktroopers, using team attacks and attack all order. Poor max ended up dying in two turns. Put to death by a firing squad just like he did to borg.
@Novrick Really, I thought the anime was quite good, but you're right, it was more cliche than the game. Still, they did new and interesting stuff with it that wouldn't have been possible in an SRPG.
I actually managed to cheese this boss with Rosie- her Strong Will basically let her tank Maximilian's attacks, allowing her to run right up to him and mow him down. I was able to kill him in only 3 turns.
@shippou55 Exactly! and that kind of love is so overused....especielly in anime. And Welking is weird in the anime (at least in the beginning) cuase he is off all the time :S while in the game, he is kind of charming (to me at least)
Lawls to both you good sirs. Unfortunately my Maxie's death wasn't as epic. After mortaring the living crap out of him with the "Weis" I simply used Aika's grenade attachment to finish him off. "BANG BANG, BABY"
i deadass wanna replay this game for the 7th time, but i think my disc broke for the remastered version on PS4, and i have no ability to get on my ps3.
it's on pc, you can snag the xbox game pass for $1 and play it off that too. If you also have an xbox you can play it on both then. Sucks that your copy broke though. I own too many copies of the game, tbh
i can only agree, i felt more enjoyment and the like of emmotions and such in the game than i felt about the actual anime, The characters have nice style to them in the game, in the anime however, you hardly get to know that many characters :/
They turned Welkin into a douchebag with emo moments, and Alicia into a generic tsundere. Yeah, right, the anime is awesome [/sarcasm] I take Welkin and Alicia from the game anytime.
At the very least, the anime did so some things better than the game. For example, I personally liked the anime's aftermath of Isara's death, I'll give it credit for that.
@chibanteEcatia well, I prefer the characters and the love story in the game since I played the game before I saw the animé. Felt like they borrowed some stuff from Love Hina...and I don't like that animé. but if you like Love Hina, well then there is no problem I guess
battledawn1 some of the comments say human units BESIDES LANCERS can destroy the towers, but how was i supposed to know that? they looked like only tanks and lancers could damage them. that being said, now im afraid he'll be easier than selvaria and jaegar, though the former was way too hard (srsly, all heal, scout movement, shocktrooper damage output, AND dodges attacks? don't even get me started on those snipers and turrets. took me like 3-4 tries to beat her. and i beat her VERY LATE INTO my 20th and last turn)
227someguy I only really had problems with Jaegar. GOOD GOD MAN. Personally I took out the towers using Marina, she could typically take them out in a single shot, especially if Penetrator procced.
WeyrleaderFallaner jaegar was hard... until you captured all the enemy camps. then he can't heal or summoning reinforcements. it's even easier when his tank's armor is destroyed so you can hit that weak spot for a 2HKO
227someguy get the DLC where you play imperials, get the special weapon reward for completing the DLC, give it to vyse or any other good stormtrooper, shoot the towers with ease!
@DesertTornado it's sad to hear I was right, really =/ but still, no need to care so much about a grammar problem in a statement. and I'm not saying I'm a "critic"....I just state my opionon about the anime
@anupsanju hm, since it was an anime they needed to fill out the story more. like when they infiltrate the darcsen camp or Maxmillian political enemies had much more impact on the story in the anime. but oh well, I don't say it's the worst anime. just saying that I was seriously disapointed =/
for the era of the game that is a good thing if there was hipo or rock thats iwill break the game so sega do a great job but /sob they dont do more of this game
@DesertTornado wow.....you only cared about that SMALL detail? If you must complain about such small details as that....then my friend, your life is going to be (or already is) a mess.
This song is so underrated for just some random Japanese video game. Actually a better musical theory piece than the usual stuff John Williams creates. The main problem with this song is that it just needs to be orchestrated by a real conductor and instruments.
@shippou55 hm yeah I can admit that the storyline was kliche. but at least the characters were more interesting, there was much less fanservice and of course.....you at least WANTED Alicia and Welkin to be togheter in the game. when I watched the anime I kind of hoped that one of them would die or something cuase in the game the character development was better made, while in the anime they kind of ripped of Love Hina (you know first hate from the girl then suddenly from no wehre there is love)
I don't see how, plenty of gimmicks in that battle and you have watch out for his berserk state where he can pretty much target anyone, including your tank. Even if you finish him in a couple of turns, you have to make sure to use everysingle class to their full potential in order to beat him quickly.
Hearing this in 1 and then again in 4, definitely gets the blood pumping. I ended up using Lynn to finish off Maximilian -- having a Darcsen finish it felt like a giant FU to the empire.
