And then the 4th game showed that the only reason that tiny nation won was because of the actions of their own allied military giant directly to the south 😔
Valkyria Chronicles is a masterpiece. It deserves its place right up there with the most beautiful of novels and films, a generational and transformational game. Welkin, Alicia, Isara, Rosie, Largo... amazing characters, very few RPG games have touched me so. The gameplay, the storybook presentation, the watercolor feel, the soundtrack, all of it is just breathtaking. Long live Gallia!
I'm so glad that I decided to pick this game up. I just finished this game last night-58 hours on record on Steam (46hr 38min on file)-and I would not be exaggerating to say it has joined the ranks of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Such a brilliant game that really deserves so much more attention than it sadly gets. I hope the unexpected success it saw on Steam will inspire SEGA to revive the franchise, because it would be a crime for this series to die out.
+Maso well lucky for us that we're getting the game remastered on ps4 and I'm really looking forward to it cuz I've never played it or heard about it and yet I really wanna play it cuz it just feels so special!
+Andrés Pétur Axelsson (Adventure Man) Plus a new game, but tbh it's so different it might as well be a different IP. Hopefully it returns to a turn baised strategy game in the future
+Maso playing trough the game now on chapter 15 , 29 hrs in and yeah this game is so great one of my fav strategi games of all time , will i also love the fire emblem series. If it would reach my top 10 i dont know on a certain day yeah top 20 definitly but i might change my opinion when i played trough it , great , great game.
An outstandingly ambitious game with an unforgettable story. There are few RPGs I enjoy this much: this game will forever remain one of my favourite games of all time~
My personal favorite game of all time. The story was brilliant, the characters where fantastic, the music was amazing, and the gameplay was addictive. Thanks to steam re-release, it might finally be getting the attention it deserves. Everyone go play this. May your allegiance to Gallia stand firm evermore!
That's what brought me here today, some music to build up the hype. Many an Imperial will be felled by my Grenadiers(assuming the new class is potent).
I hope they change the rating system of the missions and focus more on the mental state of characters. This had a huge negativ impact on my experience with this game.
This song and this game reminds you of the roots of war: people suffering for the efforts of a few high- ranked men. It also shows you the power of an army who fights for their homes, for their families. You really want the war to end when playing it.
It doesn't matter how long it's been, every time I come back to this theme, it always sounds amazing. It's like the listening to a soldier's heart. The hopefulness during the war. It's great. 10/10
In the DLC, Behind Her Blue Flame, I gained so much respect for General Bles. This game is incredible; making you empathise with the 'bad guys' is one of the hardest feats to truly pull off, and VC did it. Truly, this is a masterpiece.
if you ask me, there are no "bad guys" in these games. Just people, doing what they believe is right or what their circumstances make them do. and thats exactly whats so great about it^^
True, they are just in war, that's why the beautiful scene with the dying empire soldier and the discussion with his friend was made, there is no bad guys in war, just soldier (even if the empire seems more racist against the Darcsen than the other)
@Angel Fox Well yeah, that one General in the Concentration Camp, hes just a straight up Nazi. But most of the Higher Ups like Selvaria, Maximillian and Jäger are at least somewhat sympathetic i would say. And on Gallias Side not everyone is a good Person either, General Damon being a prime example. Its just nice having the Nuance^^
Well, in series Maximilian, Gregor, the Gassenarl family, General Eisler, the cardinal Borgia and Dr. Beigar were really real bad guys. Jaeger, Dahau, Klauz, Dirk, Forsetti, Selvaria, Crymaria, only followed orders. But in case of Jaeger and Dahau, they were gentleman pursuing a cause. Forsetti and Dirk ... better not spoil, Selvaria and Crymaria was a casse of blind loyalty and Klauz, only wanted to find a worthy opponent.
1:54 I never told the General, I couldn't I wanted to tell her she was reason i became a scout. So I could join her up at the front lines, to keep fighting at her side. If a rank-and-file grunt like me could help her ease her loneliness, even just for a time, that'd be enough for me. I knew i could die. I knew the risks. But I also knew that this is what i wanted. And i've never regretted it. Whenever that final day comes, I want to have spent every one before it with her. My place is there fighting for her. - Johann Oswald Eisen
I originally bought CoD Black Ops instead of VC despite the insistence of my cousin on doing otherwise. But after realizing I lacked the skill and necessary commitment to better myself in that drudgingly paced FPS, I belatedly followed my cousin's advice and bought this game. At first, I thought it would be another one of those JRPGs or SRPGs like Suikoden and I was already ready to dismiss my curiousity in trying VC out. It wasn't the admittedly gorgeous art style that made me press "New Game" though. Instead, all of my doubts and hesitant thoughts were dispelled once this theme started playing. I knew then and there: I was in for a ride I never expected.
Kirnale (spoiler) in some scenes the anime dealt with its story well, welkin having a breakdown at his time in brul after isara's death is one such example.
It always pains me to see a fan of a franchise that gets forgotten over the more mainstream ones. My heart goes out to you my friend, as I feel the same way.
BEAT VALKYRIA CHRONICLES II AND HEARD THIS SONG IN THE CREDITS. NOT GOING TO LIE, BUT IT GAVE ME SOME FEELS. WHAT AN AWEAOME GAME, WITH AN AMAZING SOUNDTRACK, THE SERIES IS AN INCREDIBLE PACKAGE. FAVORITE TACTICAL RPG EVER
Nah, Chronicles III its better in series. Music that gives you feelings, harder though and stupidly unfair levels, a dark plot comparison with the kinda happy tone of the past 2 games, a lot of cameos from the 2 past games and a lot of content.
It'll be out for PC on November 11, 2014, aka in two weeks, and it'll include all the previously released DLC. All for only $19.99!! Preorders are also up everywhere including Steam! It's like someone wanted to give me the best Christmas gift ever!
StrikeNoir105E Yeah it's a "brand new" game that is already selling for 40 dollars cheaper than the original. If it does go on sale it will probably be like 10% off or something
This theme embodies some of the strongest messages in the game. Prevailing through, loss, fear, weaknesses, and self doubt to protect you family, your friends, and your country.
I just finished this game for the first time afew days ago and... it's over. It didn't hit me until just now at 2:18 but... I can't play this amazing game for the first time anymore because I finished it. It was an incredible journey. Listening to this I can't help but be reminded of everyone who had to be sacrificed for some of particularly brutal missions. Everyone who had been in Squad E since the begining, and everyone who helped along the way. This series is so good, and it addresses some of the most important topics about war. This is definitely in my list of favorite games. Probably in my top 15. Thank you to GMT for recomending and for steam.
I am not really a gamer. But after watching the anime I would like to buy this game and to play it. I like the characters and the plot. There is something special with Valkyria Chronicles that I have never known before. I like the way the story is made and all the relationships between the protagonists with the drama, romance and battles included. I like the message behind too. They fight not just to killing people but they fight to protect and to end the war and all the atrocities who are comitted. Human life is the most important thing and they just want to came back to their home soon to live their lifes. Anyway this soundtrack is brilliant and beautiful. Love the 7's Squad.
Ryan Termen Honestly the anime took a different turn than the game. It focused a lot on faldio and alicia's possible love interestness when that didn't exist in the game. That being said the OVAs were pretty good.
Ark Sword This is why I would like to play the game too. To know the original work. I have seen a lot of comments who said that the game was better for several reasons and different than the anime for some points. I am aware that the anime is not perfect but I like the general idea of the story and all his specifications. And yes the OVA's were good I like them too.
Максим Винтерштейн I really, really wish they'd done an English version of Valkyria Chronicles 3. Why couldn't Sega have realized that basically no one outside of Japan owns a PSP??
Avalon Sylphid I know about the fan one; I imported the game and am using the patch. :-) I was talking about SEGA making an "official" English version. It seems like they kind of dropped the series overseas after VC2, which is absolutely criminal in my mind. :-/
the best game story in jrpg i ever consume. thank you sega for creating this masterpiece. Hearing this again make me want to train myself to be ready if i needed to be drafted in wars
I finish yeasterday, and I not fan of strategy, but this game pushes you to play, embrace you and makes you emotional. I recommend c: (srry the bad english.)
@HamuSumo *joins in salute* Sakimoto, thank you for gracing us with yet another spectacular soundtrack. Knew you wouldn't let us down and you do military-based music the best.
they used this for the credits of Valkyria Chronicles 2 :) The Valkyria Chronicles Series is the best series of RPG games that i've played. Long Live Gallia :D
haven't played this game but I'm LOVING this theme. I've always been a fan of Hitoshi Sakimoto. There's just some kind of magic I feel in his every single composition. And for me, hearing his music is one of the best gifts life has offered me. :)
I was playing VC4 just a bit earlier, and the part at 0:42 started playing right at a very crucial moment of chapter 16. I didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did. Damn, these games have a way to make you attached to their characters.
+Bicsum86 Dunno if you heard, but you got your wish! Valkyria: Azure Revolution was announced back in November for PS4. Hopefully it'll come out in the west.
I paid full price for this game and i'd do it again.. This is a spectacular masterpiece in all ways, theres few words than can justify it and i can only think of one right now. Valkyria Chronicles, you are amazing.
I finally picked up a ps3 over Christmas, and this game was one of the main reasons I wanted the system. I'd wanted to play it ever since it was first announced, and I'm happy to say that it has met and even exceeded the lofty expectations I had for it. I'm sad that I appear to be reaching the end. I've barely even touched the other ps3 games so far, hehe . . . I don't understand how it isn't in every ps3 owner's library. It really deserves to succeed.
Playing this for the first time on my PS4, how did this amazing game slip under my radar. Totally buying Valkyria Chronicles: Azure Revolution when it comes out. Every mission has something unique about it, never once did the story feel like filler.
If i were you i would watch some game about Azure Revolution before buying it. The gameplay has been completely changed, and amongst Valkyria fans its has not been well received so far. Its not a tactics game at all. I hope they do some changes because if they fuck it up we wont see another Valkyria any time soon, Valkyria 2 poor sales in the west is the reason Valkyria 3 was never localized. As for this game, i barely even noticed it when it came out, then this year i bought it for PC, and was absorbed into it from the very first mission.
@seyfersnake- Really? I was not aware they changed the entire game mechanic. If it's still fun, despite changes, I'll like it. I'll check out some vids. EDIT: So it appears it's actually not plan-based strategem anymore, but rather an action game. I'll still give it a try, i wasn't too sure about the original game from videos i saw and was quickly proved wrong after playing. I'll reserve my judgement until I actually get to play the game. Hopefully, this isn't Sega trying to pull a fast one on us by re-skinning a different game's mechanics with Valkyria Chronicles Stuff. 'cause when Micro-Rare did that with Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts... Or like when Capcom made Okamiden.
Lyrikan Well since its a PS4 exclusive for now i wont be able to try it out, but i certainly hope they dont fuck it up and make a good game regardless of changes.
Amen to that. Valkyrica Chronicles became one of my favorite games ever since I saw the trailer for it, and upon getting it for real this Christmas has gone on to become one of the crowns in my ever growing game collection. Even my best friend who often detests JRPGs to their very core could find little to dislike in Valkyrica Chronicles. If you own a PS3, go to Amazon right now and order yourself a copy. Perhaps then Sega will decide to port the sequel to the PS3 like it deserves.
well im glad to know im not the only one that thought of this. the idea popped into my head while watching my friend play the game. normally im not a rpg guy but this game has won me over and im currently borrowing it from him. but yeah as you said they do have those things in common. and can you imagine how awsome a meele fight between cap and selvaria would be? sure she has her lance but cap's shield can reflect it and absorb the vibrations of the blast. but he might get knocked back though.
The one thing I love about this game the most (besides this song) is the fact that literally EVERYTHING has a backstory. It takes a bit of reading, but it explains absolutely everything from why Coby hates Alicia to why Alicia wears that... thing, whatever it's called (I may have forgotten...). It's definitely better than most games where they say "Here, have a situation... figure it out from there. Good luck." It also doesn't do what some other games do where the player is omniscient, where we know something long before the characters. Most of the information we're provided is based off of what the Gallians themselves know (which equates to absolutely nothing about the Valkyrur...). And then there's the potentials, which all have reason and backstory behind them (except Hector with his metal allergy... when he carries a huge metal shield and a huge metal Anti-Tank Lance). About my only problem with it is... how was the Marmota even able to move? It's not like those propellers could have moved something that massive through rock, trees, and buildings, as well as Randgriez's walls. And then there's Faldio at the end of the game where he could have just shot Maximillian... but no, he just drags him down a hole and kills them both... logic ftw.
The propellers were there to cool down the enormous engine/s running Its drive system. Destroying their heat sinks caused the cooling system to break down, stopping the engine/s.
i got this one exactly a year ago....30 bucks....for some reason i played it only once (a year ago)....yesterday bored of BF3 i found it try it and it just relaxing to see a different style of graphics a different gameplay syle in other words im happy that i found it..a really hidden gem...
