Not doing VOTT after seeing that. We also got stuck by the road closure but went back to get the car and left it in Puerto Mogán. The road you took up to VOTT, split off from the one we ascended. That road runs up to the cafe you stopped at and is the most incredible road I have ever seen. It is like Sa Calobra the way it snakes up the valley, just times that road by ten and you’ll get somewhere near. If you’re still here and you have time give it a go 👍
@@KatieKookaburra l ride around lake Como and do those hills-mountains every Sunday. I know you know them too cos l saw your video last September ( l would love to ride with those guys this year if l could contact them... ) this summer l will ride in Spain but its around the Alicante-Murcia area...plenty of climbs there too. Tanx for your time...Ride an rock on!!
Hi Katie. Going to Gran Canaria in 9 days time and planning on riding the Valley of Tears. After you discovered the brick wall did you have to re-route via the GC1 for a few kilometres? Any problems with riding on the GC1?
Just done this last week, 138 km and 3500 m opp👍,and is not gravel it's very very bad asfalt old shit road like 30% road on Granca, very good effort Katie👏
In Puerto Mogan right now and watching this in prep for taking on VOTT - great effort... I must say, I’m a tad nervous... Looks narrow and I know it’s very steep - gonna be a challenge dragging my 16st frame up this one 😉
Tremendous Katie, best video in a while imo, walls - tears indeed, pints of coke - seriously hardcore, but, videos on a Thursday! how very dare you 👍👍😉
The wall is still there (actually there are two), but one has a hole in it where you can creep through and the other you can easily bypass on the side. Amazing that they don't repair that road though! By the way, you can bypass this part of the route by doing the climb to Soria, which I did today.
Before they build the brick wall, it was a great road. I was passing the fences, thinking I was a total badass. Then I looked up the road and seen elderly women walking on the road.
Blimey. I was there late November and there was no wall then . Loads of walkers, runners and a few cyclists scrabbling through the fences. Makes staying in Puerto Mogan less inviting
@@KatieKookaburra it was supposed to happen last month. That's why I put the X-O and the 36 tooth cassette. Frankly I rode today and I hardly needed more than 28, 36 is a super rescue gear. I have Kin living near the French border and everybody enjoys mountain bikes there. I really don't know if I needed the 36 but..... It's a lot different when you're carrying camping equipment and in no hurry.
Amazing video. The gravel looked like gravel poured over tar. It can be slick. And murder on tires. That's tube-less tires haven't been a favorite of racers or, long distance cyclists. Me? Nope. I think they have a long way to go before everyone will be using them.
Totally understand why they have bricked the road off as it's just too dangerous , it sucks but hey it's a pretty dangerous scene, it could give way any time soon again, considering tons of cyclist bring lots of revenue to the island the least they could do is offer a free bus shuttle thruthe motorway tunnels to playa Mogan
Hey Stu, they are trying to get the motorway re-categorised as a regular road for people on bikes I believe. So fingers crossed that happens. And yeah I realise they blocked the road off for a reason so guess we were daft to try and climb it :)
