Pro tip: You can disconnect the (-) Black negative side then reconnect (-) Black negative side when needing to disconnect battery. (Same as (-) neg 1st followed by (+) expect you don't remove (+) Pro tip: Shroud the (-) negative terminal you disconnected in paper towels and some making tape to prevent any arcing. Pro tip: Stuff some paper towels under the fuel line to absorb the bleeding fuel. Even shrouding the line in a towel jacket to protect against spray.

Before remove the Valvetronic, you must set it to service mode with inbus at the side. Loose the Boltes at the side und do not take Valvetronic out. You have to rotate the Service screw and the Valvetronic comes out. Do not use impact wrench for Alu Screws. You risk te cut of the heads from screws. Use normal rachet for that. But thanky ou for the video. Thats fine.

There's no need to remove the actual injectors and fuel rail. The wiring harness can be unclipped fairly easily with a couple of picks.

The job looks so complicated and lots of room for errors. This make me cringe. The gasket is not expensive, but the labor seems intensive. How much does a job like this usually cost? And what's the millage before this has to be replaced?

No video I've seen has talked about the differences in the plastic vs metal valve cover replacement as they made these in 2 different valve cover types. This video has different torque spec and mentions needing new bolts as in do not reuse old. Plastic one you can reuse.

Hi guys, 1st off I want to say you guys do great videos and very clearly explained. There are a couple "helpful hints" I could add but overall I used this as a step by step without fail. I do have a problem tho which I hope someone can answer. If not I am most likely towing the car to the shop for repair. Here is problem: car will not start. Engine turns but has a funny sound, like a miss in the turn sequence. Almost like the timing is off. I am wondering if its the valvetonic? I did not use an allen wrench to adjust, I just removed carefully. You did not say to set it to anything, but some ppl say you must set it to 'service mode.' Any suggestions?

@@thisb765 did you get the balls to do it yourself?
@thisb765
@thisb765 Год назад
@@Unavalivle Yes I did, actually I got lucky and it turned out one of the bolts was snapped off. I first checked by where it looked like it was leaking and sure enough a bolt was lose but when I went to tighten it I realized it was broken in half. So I managed to get broken part out, ordered new bolt from ecs tuning, put it on, washed the shit out of bottom at self car wash. And haven’t had any oil leakage since
@thisb765
@thisb765 Год назад
@@Unavalivle But now there is a new problem of course, there’s no engine light but a code 2AA9 shows up. Variable intake system servomotor, 2 activation. Now that it’s cold out it seems more noticeable like as if it doesn’t like cold Idk maybe just me. Sometimes when accelerating or coming almost to stop there is a weird noise like air rushing through something maybe idk. Lol

Hello guys great video. I have a question my 2009 BMW 328i E90 only has 2 thread bolts and I see in your video you removed 3 of them from the middle at around 14:40 minutes in the video. Why could this be? At first, I thought it was missing until I noticed that there was not meant to be a screw there but yet there is a hole for a screw to go in and this is where my engine was leaking oil into cylinder 4. Is there supposed to be a bolt between cylinder 3 and 4 because I was looking at a brand-new valve cover set, and it only brings 2 thread bolts as well?

You went through a 1 minute explanation about removing the incorrect battery cable. But I'm confused why you didn't take the extra 2 seconds to tell which cable to remove first. ?? Also I do not see the link below as you suggested. I am going with negative. Other than that, seems like a good explanation learning video.

Regarding the EGR hose at rear: this hose is a major pain to remove. Unless, you know what youre doing. After spending 15+ minutes squeezing the little cramped plastic thing (maybe I broke it loose), I finally pushed it in, then squeezed, then pulled it out. Similar to how you show the fuel line removal. Came out ez. 👌Little tip for all observers.

I like the metal one with these 2006 N52 engines better. You don’t risk dropping or snagging them during installation, they don’t leak as fast if torqued down properly. And the cover is not plastic so it won’t crack due to heat cycling

@classicman1681

Trust me don’t follow this step by step, do your research from credible engineers who know BMW motors. This is a good overall explanation but not at all a tutorial of how to properly access and change a valve cover gasket. First time buyers and diy’ers need to understand the cost, time and investment in parts it takes to work on your own vehicle. Any N52 engine with over 130,000 miles will start to need a lot of work, most of it youll want to do at once when accessing vital parts like the inside of your valve cover. Work smarter not harder.
