What is the deal with the triple pass shave? Is this proper shave proceedure, or just how you do it? I've been wet shaving since I was around 15 ,(42 now) most I've ever done is a double pass and that was only a few times. My skin is too sensitive.

Hey Chuck, You should do what works for you. I learned how to wet shave from a great video here on RU-vid which suggests three passes. The first being with the grain, the second across grain and the final pass (with a mild razor setting) against the grain.

Watch the how to lather video from "Michael Freedberg". That will help a lot. also, don't move your hand away and to your face while applying. just brush side to side or in circles

I agree with adding bit more water to your lather as you lather up on your face and spend a bit more time building up the lather. Personally I only face lather after I have loaded my brush with soap and so don't need a bowl. Keep the videos coming, we don't have much else to do during lockdown ... and keep safe ...

I use Van Der Hagen soap every day, and love it. I hold my synthetic brush under water for about 5 seconds, then pull it out and gently squeeze it twice using my thumb and index finger, and it’s ready to go. Bowls with ridges or whatever may help, but I get a fantastic lather just using a smooth plastic bowl.

For a shaving bowl you want something with ridges or ribbing in it. Timeless razors has a great blue lathering bowl that I use that’s great. Stirling Soaps has collapsible shave bowls that are great for travel. But yeah don’t use a smooth bowl. Great video Tony.

theMediaMart okay, forget the timeless bowl. Go with the Stirling collapsible shave bowl. I just tested them side by side. The Stirling is amazing. It’s $6 too
