When Eddie passed, KLOS in LA played Van Halen non stop. I listened to it over night as I slept. I didn't sleep much during that time. Until Eddie passed, I never knew a world without him. Van Halen was and will probably remain the most important and influential band in my life.
Same. His death has been the only 'celebrity' that affected me. A part of my youth died too. He was a huge influence on me and i will always mourn the hero I never met.
the footage from 2:53 to 3:10 made me tear up. just look at them. looking fresh, happy and ready to take on the world once again. miss Eddie so much. listened to their entire discography all the way through for about the 15th time at work last week, never gets old man. VH forever!
I'm glad Eddie and Sammy patched things up before Eddie passed, I just wish they had done it sooner so they could have done one last album together. RIP Eddie you are missed
Probably my favorite Van Halen album. I say probably because they have such a great volume of work to choose from. The production and sound on this album to me is second to none. Eddie's guitar was the best.
I was born in 76 and started into music by age 3-4 Hall and Oates ,Men at work ,Petty .I had never heard about Van Halen until we just got cable in 83 84 . I saw Panama and Eddie was flying through the air at 8 years old was jaw dropping .Then hot for teacher video !Chicks and then Eddie walks down the table tops in the library ? forget about it ! Then I got into run dmc b boys etc and Dave left ,I thought Sammy just didn't fit like Dave and didn't give them a chance .I was so wrong ! I realized that around the 2003 reunion tour . I still got to see Eddie .I've been a 50 50 Sam and Dave guy since . Listening to his entire catalog you really see the Triple threat musician. Player composer , virtuoso . RIP KING EDWARD
Before this, they never let their conflicts show to the public. You never saw with Dave until AFTER he left. For Sammy to talk about how there were all these disagreements with the brothers is interesting, considering this was their last tour together. This should have been the first clue that all was not well.
Legends. This was my time. I graduated in 1993. This came out before when or before I could buy alcohol. My first VH concert. Atlanta. But I was obsessed since age 11 and 5150 Live Without a Net. I wore the VHS tapes out. Being a drummer, I emulated the AVH thing on drums. It allowed me to play with all of the high school kids who had bands when I was in middle school. I got to party with the big kids! Ou812 and F.u.c.k. Were also phenomenal albums. 1984 was wicked. All of the albums were wicked. Even VH3 was good to me. It was simply different. There was always something about Eddie’s tone and Alex’s drum sound. They just knew how to stand apart from the copy cats of the 80’s. It’s sad that Alex will never have an Eddie to play with. It’s so sad Eddie didn’t make it. But, in some odd way, I don’t think Eddie was meant to be seen as “old”. Maybe 65 was old enough. He played his last show and it was tight. Keep it going Wolfgang. We need you.
Some of my fav musicians didn't even make it to the age of 30. I'm very grateful my favorite guitarist lived to 65. He gave us a shitload of music!!! RIP EVH
VH3 I thought was really good as well. Gary Charone was a great choice for vocals. I thought he fit right in. I don't understand people that criticize bands for not keeping their original sound. Bands evolve and do new things and that is not always a bad thing. It is with some bands.
Such a legandary band amazing music Eddie van Halen is forever the greatest to do it his playing is genius plus he played almost anything piano but the music that he and his brother and Sammy and Michel Anthony Eddie will be missed his music is forever
These guys were tight. It's a fucking shame the VH brothers were brainwashed by their new manager to break it off with Sammy. I love the Sammy era and love Balance! Underrated record.
They took him too early and certainly didn't help him. But, genes play a role, too. Their father died young. He was just about the same age; 66 I think. But, at the same time it kinda blows the theory of second hand smoke outta the water, too. These guys lived in a perpetual cloud of smoke at 5150. Alex smoked. A layer of smoke and ash covered almost everything in that studio for years. Yet, they're all fine, even Al. When it's our time, it's our time. It's beyond sad that Ed's gone. But, if he had to go, I only wish the end hadn't been so prolonged and exhausting for him. Granted, he was resisting it. But, God...such a hard few years for him. That story that Gene Simmons told about Ed showing him the cancer damage and his attitude towards it is a lesson for everyone... "Eh. What are you gonna do? See ya!" No complaining or publicizing his illness. He just brought the same quiet work ethic he had in making his music, to going through the illness. You have to respect the Hell outta that.
Anyone that's overly pro dave should not even comment on a thread like this, we know your problems with sammy, and here is not a place to be a troll, grow up already. for the record, i respect both versions equally, and everyone involved.
