I had to stop reading comments. This device has a specific purpose and you are using it just for that: to charge stuff. Period. Its meant to be small and compact, its meant to function at certain limitations (not start the van etc), and things DO wear down (500 times). Having the ability to add life to your laptop battery is HUGE doing what you do: give us videos of your travels. Sorry but I am NOT going to chime in with condescending tones, comments, or ill-deserved notions. I WILL, however, say THANK YOU for taking the time to make yet another informative video. I think this product is awesome and has MANY benefits. "Stay stealthy my friend" :)

Put a shallow box rack on top of your van, lay the panel in it and run the wires through your roof vent. From the ground a four inch tall rectangle box rack will completely hide 1 or 2 panels.

If they could create solar panels that look/act like windshield solar blockers, you could win three ways: gain the privacy, block out heat and charge your battery/charger all at the same time. No one looks twice at a van/car parked in a lot with a sun blocker stuck in the front window. That would be a brilliant adjunct to what looks to be a great product!

Genius concept. For now just putting the panels as they come against the windows (they look subtle enough) should hopefully do the trick until Suaoki releases the CM Solar-Powered Stealth Curtains

I want to move into a non-van vehicle (a camry or maybe rav) and i know solar panels would draw too much attention plus putting in the electric stuff is expensive, no one else really has a video like this so thank you!!

thank you, it's great to know this because in many countries people would attempt to steal the solar panels if they realized they are on the van. So this, together with other types of portable smaller solar panels seem to be the solution for that although you'd need to spend a good time outdoors to charge them.

I have a camper SUV and my wife and me use it to camp 4 or 5 times a year in the summer, I purchased a small unit like you have and it's been great, Charges our laptop so we can watch movies at night and 2 small 12v rechargeable fans, if your not full time living in your vehicle then these are perfect

If you want more than 150wh for a cheaper price to last longer. Buy a 100Ah car battery which is about 1200wh and a dc to ac converter with usb ports, to charge devices inside. Other than that, the product is good to go take with you since it is portable

Years ago (1980-2000) I owned a P.I. Firm which our primary purpose was surveillance. (Insurance fraud). We needed vehicles that could (must be) stealthy, able to carry a lot of equipment, tripods, still and video cameras, TV monitors small heating and ac equipment. Our surveillance’s lasted from before sunup to after sundown. We needed power for all those devices so I went to a couple auto electrical shops. Finally one came up with a proven power technique that stealth campers should all employ! Off our main battery we had a short wire go to a small (2”x2”x4”) converter box. Then the mechanic sent a #10 cable to a marine battery which was mounted underneath our vans. As we drove, the-main battery sent power to the secondary battery and kept it charged all day. All we had then was cigarette outlets, but there are devices (as you show in your video) that can adapt). No solar then, complete stealth and never worried about power again for our vans. We ultimately ended up with 35 vans in 5 surrounding states . To me, this was a no brainer and used them till I retired. No getting partial power while at a coffee shop, just charged (free) on your own. Main battery to converter-converter to auxiliary battery, battery to outlet mounted inside the van. Think about it. Federal agents do surveillance everyday, how do you think they stay powered? This is for ALL you stealth van camper/travelers. One more thing-when you pull power from the secondary battery, the converter blocks any attempt at pulling power from your main battery. You’ll never have a drained main battery. I hope this makes sense as I’d like to see some of you employ this method! While this current idea of yours is good, it will only power up to 150 Watts, which is basically a small portable radio. Look at the Watts it draws, on the back! Good luck all. You just learned a GOLD secret!

Pretty sure people use this method in van/car living life already. I just don’t feel comfy fooling around under the hood at all on my own. And these tiny less than $200 “solar generators” charge in car via the cig lighter just fine without a solar panel purchase. I’m not trying to run A/C or a fridge. So not worried about needing more power than my little box right now.
@welcometoreality3450
@welcometoreality3450 4 года назад
yep its a great way for cheap power, you may even have the room under the hood for another battery (cuz you dont really want the battery in the vehicle) easy peasy lol

It is definitely an option dc to dc converters are great as long as people bare in mind that they do put strain on the alternator (very expensive) of you vehicle and shorten its lifespan in New Zealand where I'm from alternators can sometimes last for the life of the car cos we dont need much ac on or many cranking amps to start the engine cos winters are mild. Cos I'm not in surveillance game I'm gonna run a honda generator which will charge my total 170ah of lithium in a couple of hours I much prefer the stand alone option

Its called a battery to battery charger and yeah there are some good ones on the market now better than split charge relays also there are products that are solar powered (not using huge solar panels but about the same size as her device in this video) that can charge your phone now as well.

That is something to consider if traveling/living in a van - stealth. I would imagine that the solar panels are a give away that there is likely someone in the van - sleeping during the night. So, if I understand it correctly, you plug in the box to an outlet to charge it (or solar panel to charge it) and then you have back up for your phone and laptop. Great!

I pretty much do the same thing with a similar unit (by a different company) while living in my car. It works pretty well without me having to invest in/buy a solar panel. I don’t need to run anything massive, it’s just a less than $200 plug and play portable battery that I always have charging via the cig lighter while driving and when the car is off I have power for my devices. Which was the goal. 😄

Just a little very simple advice to all van people on the move to save on battery setups. I used in my 2.7 L diesel nissan homy van for months of travels only one main battery no solar system needed, EXIDE MARINE starting & cycling 96 Amp hour 12V battery to charge Vaeco-Dometic tropicool fridge phones laptop camera battery sometimes used work lite with 15w bulb. And never ended up flat in the morning. In case voltage drops way to much before cold night just start the car and let it run for 20 min or half an hour and you'll be all good next day. But if you plan to stay somewhere for 3 or more days solar can be handy.

Your little portable solar generator might seem like a good deal because it's so cheap at the cash register, but the cost for 100 watt hours do the lifetime of the device 500 cycles, means you're going to replace these often if used regularly. At 500 recharges, it's not a good long term investment, but does give you a cheap throw-away solution. Good luck eith it and thanks for sharing.

When you powered the JBL speaker you used A/C Power, however, the power card takes that A/C and transforms it into D/C thus your wasting power. Meaning just use the USB cable to charge your JBL's or anything else whenever possible.

I too have issues with solar it's obvious it's slow to charge cloudy days etc a small honda generator will use less than a litre or quart of fuel to charge my batteries 170ah I'd only need to use it once every 10 days with my power consumption. That's not that bad for the environment considering the loss of gas mileage from drag from mounting that eye sore panel would be worse than 1 quart. Peace love your channel Jase from New Zealand.

Just install a power inverter to your battery of your vehicle until you get to the next stage of your solar panel and those will be hooked up to separate batteries separate from your vehicle but you can have both and just limit your plug-in sources so you don't drain the battery so fast

A.B.C. - Always Be Charging -- that's what I tell people that endlessly seem to fuss over what they're going to do for power in their vans and vehicles. When the engine is running you're normally getting a lot of extra 'free' power for charging devices. Of course, when you're in a coffee shop, plugging it works great too! Fancy solar setups aren't generally required unless you're sitting parked for days without moving (or have ridiculous power requirements - which in turn generally means a person needs to minimize a bit more). Looks like a great product. I'm adding it to my shopping list for when it is available in Canada. Looks comparable to the Goal Zero products at a fraction of the price!
@vagabondexpedition
@vagabondexpedition 6 лет назад
@David Menard - I think you significantly mis-understood my comment. No where did I say you're 'stealing power' if you sit down and plug in at your favorite coffee shop. My reference to "free power" in your vehicle is simply that if the vehicle is running, it generally is going to have a fair bit of extra power output that you can use to charge your devices. Irrelevant to the conversation, but I'm male.

I own one and I also bought the 60 watt folding panel by suaoki but the panel did not come with an adaptor that fit the power input on the s270 it none of the adapter ends for the 5.5mm cable fit it and the 60 watt panel does not use an mc4 connection

You forgot one of the most important features. Cuz it's lithium batteries you can discharge it all the way down without damaging it.

I was going get one as well, until I saw at 2:36 that the AC output is a "modified sine wave" rather than a "pure sine wave". The former is supposed to be harmful for delicate electronics such as laptops.

I've read that you can power a device (a camera for example) while charging the Suaoki s270 through the AC, but can you tell me if there will be any interruption (with the energy running to the camera) when disconnecting the AC from the s270?? I know it sounds like a weird question but.. I need the s270 to power a timelapse camera which hasn't got any internal battery, so it is very important that this camera never stop receiving energy from the s270, even if the s270 lose the connection thourgt the AC. The powerbanks that I own (Anker, Xiami, etc) stop giving energy to this camera for a second (not even a second) when they stop reviving energy through the AC, so the camera shut down and the timelapse process stops... I hope that I explain myself properly and you could give me a clue on this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

I wouldn't use it for powering something that requires much energy while it's in a bag, there is a little cooling fan on the side that needs air if it come on. Good video on the little power bank all the same, useful little thing.

I love my ambulance but I am concerned about the lack of stealth when I’m going to travel. At least I have security lights on every side of it.

Did you know you can get a ax/heat that’s very hidden and no one from outside can see it also there are solar panels that fold up like a flat suit case and no one can see it!
