Following Van Morrison for 40 years and listening to the soulful, poetry, the voice, the tantrums, the anger , the pain the disatisfaction, the love, the yearning. and so on and on. He is a very complicated artist with many layers. What can I say he is Irish and tough as nails. That is how he rolls. You can't change people you have to accept them just as they are. It's too late too stop now.
Oh so angry in this one, he must have his reasons why, that worried look upon his face, different than his usual grace - in presentation. We forgive this temperament - for his songs are heaven sent and there are no others like him. Play me a softer - kinder version when you scatter my ashes in the river that leads out to the sea. In the Derwent under the Hobart bridge.
I was at this concert and hearing this song live made if one of my favorites. His song writing and voice evoked strong visual images. I would not have guessed that 4 years later would begin a 5 album collaboration in that 5 albums from 79 to 1986 were recorded in my studio only a few miles away from Winterland, over the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito. Surely one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. Few fans have heard all his recorded music, with so many albums. His personality was sometimes demanding, when something did not fit his desired outcome but overall sessions were relaxed, flowed and inventive. He wanted the 24 track 2 inch tape analog recorders running the whole time he was on the studio side of the control room glass so hundreds of reels were used, but the label allowed it and we billed them for the $100 reels. Everyone was proud to be working on those albums.
Good lord...what an amazing experience. The closest I got to VM was walking past a cafe on Bloomfield Avenue in Belfast ... he was sitting with a cup of tea looking like a lorry driver. Nobody had any idea who he was
I’m 52 and I’ve always dug Van the Man Morrison he has always been an amazing Rock n Roll influence on everyone and into the Mystic has always been my favorite tune by him I also believe I read somewhere that he struggled with severe stage freight if so it moments like this that makes you glad he battled through it to leave a treasure like this behind very cool life story thank you for sharing that god bless
So much of his music for me brings back memories of being 17 years growing up on Queensland Gold Coast . Thankyou van morrison you rocked my gypsy soul and still do at 64
Just recorded Van from full performance on axs tv! He's still killin! I WANNA ROCK YOUR GYPSY SOUL..JUST LIKE IN THE DAYS OF OLD...TOGETHER WE WILL FLOW INTO THE MYSTIC....FOREVER AND FOREVER MY BROTHER!
It's always a great pleasure to hear and see Van Morrison playing the harmonica and singing too! May God bless and enlighten you for many years, so that you continue to bring your fans moments of happy entertainment and joy.👏👏👏👏🙏🌷🌹❤️
It’s called standing up to phony fans, he’s not gonna play the showbiz game and pander; that’s why I’ve always loved Van. He’s real. Even if he’s a real asshole sometimes lol
Brilliant from Van the Man and fair play to him , can’t stand people shouting out for songs as if he’s a human jukebox , He looks amazing here , real rock star look ,
He was probably just focused on starting his performance and this guy in the audience started yelling. He didn’t like the fan inserting himself into the experience. Not a big deal.
so american answer they prefer their plastic so called stars made with millions dollards us music indusry. with good artists good behavior the real hypocrit polite nice talking standard sh... its like their politicians its all fake everythings
The whole time he is going through this wonderful song he's looking at the audience like he's giving a child reward that they do not deserve. I don't know if I should bless or damn my Irish temper.
I absolutely love Van M. His music is so great, i wish i had seen him in concert. I wish i had but i still have his music and these videos. This song, Tupelo Honey, Brown eyed girl etc, so many great hits. I use to have a double album of his greatest hits. One of my favorite musicians of my lifetime.
Lyrics We were born before the wind Also younger than the sun Ere the bonnie boat was won As we sailed into the mystic Hark, now hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly Into the mystic And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home, mmm mmm And when the fog horn blows I want to hear it I don't have to fear it I wanna rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old Then magnificently we will float Into the mystic When that fog horn blows You know I will be coming home And when that fog horn whistle blows I gotta hear it I don't have to fear it And I wanna rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old And together we will float Into the mystic Come on girl Will they stop now
After Van goes off on the idiot yelling in the beginning, he seems to chill out a bit and enjoys singing this. "Into the Mystic" is one of his all time best. I always enjoyed his songs "Hungry for your Love", and "When Will I Ever Learn to Live in God". One of the all time best musicians ever!
He said the same thing to us at The Fillmore East in NYC back in '72-'73? Van doesn't seem to mind keeping his audience waiting to the point they become impatient and he makes sly remarks telling us to shut up, but then again he is "Van The Man" and we love him.
@@wodenoftheangles3339 yes!!! It really touches me deeply in the very depths of my soul. You made me come back had to hear him again. I love this man. But I must hear Tupelo Honey before I go. Hope you enjoy that one as much as I do. Luck of the Irish to you👍😘
@@brendawise4365 Thank you, Brenda. I wanna see him perform in his homeland of Northern Ireland before it's too late! I can't stop listening to Carrying A Torch lately. Best wishes to you, be well.
@@wodenoftheangles3339 A conduit to the Divine... ...Yes... I thought the exact same thing when I heard him in concert early last year. The energy from Above flows into him and he passes it on to us via his music.... Truly quite an experience!
I had the pleasure of seeing Van with my future wife in 1973. It was at the Shrine Auditorium in L A and Herbie Hancock opened for him, can’t get much better then that.
To me this soul music, heart mending music,l, deep thoughts music, troubled mind healing music, hard-working person music, nothing to worry about music, cleaning out rubbish thoughts from your mind music, feeding the birds, bees and animals music, spiritual awakening music, music for all seasons, great music
I don't think the guy in the audience remotely affected his performance either way. In fact whats impressive is how quickly he regains his composure. my favourite singer on the planet.
Never ask any questions off Van because he has already told you more than your realises, Can anybody tell me when was the last time that you have heard somebody singing songs that brought you off into the mystic, touched your very soul, helped you to smell the sea and touch the sky. No Van it is not too late to stop, keep on going my most favorite Celtic 1st cousin
another great version- love the harmonica . His impatience with the audience reveals maybe complicated layers and probably some exhaustion, and a lot of Irish ❤
I’m Irish & Cherokee. Sometimes it’s not an excuse but rather an explanation. I’m a patient person but I do not tolerate fools!! @@robertford.spendmonthshere1667
+Prophetic Rain-Maker What shit ,,,,I fucking hate nationalism...the irish ...(if you must ) are a fun loving people ...but fuck me if they are not two faced , treacherous , peasant mentality . Indulgent , drunks . How's that for stereotypes hey paddy ???
+Michael Seymour I didn't stereotype anyone here. As far as I'm aware, the Irish are not known for not having patience! By me saying "It's us Irish I swear" was me merely joking about a similarity we share (well two). & lol my Grandfather's name was Patrick (Paddy) so fair play to you. Stereotypes start from somewhere! Haha.
@@TheMichaelseymour Our daughter who we lovingly call the shrink runs a special for folks with your affliction, she calls it the check up from the head up. I can set you up with an appointment, which you need before the police determine you are not capable of being out in public without supervision. Think about it before you run across an Irishman who with one punch will make you rethink your hateful rhetoric as you pick up your broken teeth off of the ground.
I'm a musician too-it's so horrible when people keep calling out for something especially when they are drunk sometimes they do it all the way through a tune you are playing perhaps something quiet and sensitive and they spoil it completely and put you off- you soon get very Pissed off with it. If a person is that bad I just get them removed - but whatever- they sure aren't going to get what they are calling for! I'm a jazz and blues person so they call out for all kinds of things. I wish they would imagine themselves standing there getting that- it's very disrespectful to a performer. I have sympathy for how Van feels and as a guy from Belfast he doesn't need to mince his words- hes not bothered what people think of him- and why should he be? Are you bothered about it all the time? You can't be controlled by other people- hes just himself!
"If you shut your mouth and keep quiet you might get what you want, alright? Otherwise, you’re just like boring me to death, and probably everybody else.”
He was the same way at the Fillmore East in NY in "72? People got impatient with him coming on stage late and he told us to shut up or he would not perform
Winterland had a huge impact on me at 21 years old ! How I missed this concert is a mystery to me? The thing I will always remember is young teenagers always asking to get them beer traiding their weed in payment! It was a different time. The Dead , Winterland ,And Fishersmans warf before it became a shopping mall! Thank you San Francisco, your people, your music and the smell of sweet perfume!
I think the beat down of the guy yelling for a song is hilarious. Saw Van a few months ago, he doesn't engage the audience, he plays his heart out, he cares, he shows his appreciation for the fans by providing great music. That is enough for me. "if you shut your mouth and keep quiet you might get what you want". He is great at all aspects of music....and great at shouting at idiots.
That harmonica is a bit of a revelation. I have seen him loads of times and have never seen that. Maybe he only plays like that when he wants to punch somebody.
I remember seeing him when i was 10 on Dick Clark' American Bandstand. He was so HIGH he couldn't lip sync "Brown Eyed Girl". He turned around to a drumset picked up the sticks and tossed them in the air. I didn't know what the meaning of High was at that age but it was a hoot!
@@scottpeterson9609 Undoubtedly Van is a grump and very moody, but having said that he is one hell of a musician. Like my mother used to always say "You got to take the good with the bad", and with Van there's by far so much fantastic music that he gives us, can't think of another artist who comes even close to him.
I made my three grandkids, 13, 10 and 5 sit and watch this performance so they would know what real music and talent is. My 13 year old is into Tom Petty now so I think I’m making progress.
Amazing-performance by him & his then band but also amazing that anyone would critizize him him for a little bark. Try going out on a long tour & singing your heart out every night & listening to drunk stoned dopes yell at ya! For goodness sakes he's human. Saw him first time in concert at Randall's Island, New York, Jun 14-15, 1997 & he was amazing
