Original Van Ness Boy, which turf would become Van Ness Gangsta Brims in coming years, sits down with Kev Mac Videos. In Part Two, S Mac and Kev Mac hits him with questions about the train tracks, Horace Mann Middle School, and Van Ness joining up with the Brims.
At seventeen, Michael would meet Thomas "Tootie" Reese, the Godfather of black drug kingpins, and was impressed with his tremendous wealth. After he became a member of Tootie's organization, Michael would have all the money that he had ever dreamed of. But the death of his best friend, Raul, to gang violence, changed the course of his life. He was plotting the murder of Raul's killer when the government took his freedom.
In prison, education changed Michael's life. He began to understand how his actions and the actions of those he knew and associated with were destroying black neighborhoods, and he became a social activist. His desires changed from wanting to be wealthy by any means necessary to wanting to save underserved neighborhoods from self-destructing, and to help young men and women convert their misguided street ambition into entrepreneurship.

We appreciate the struggle that he have to overcome to change from that person 30+ years ago. He advocate his time now to preach against genocide of our inner city youth. With all due respect I think this guy was a hustler that was around all that he says he was. But this interview makes it clear , that he wasn't an active banger. It's sad that most of the ACTIVE VNG's and Los Angeles Brims around that time are dead or moved on. Then I have Big Angel, Katnip, Toni Luscious who are alive but skeptical about being on the internet. Melvin Farmar said that the Brims were always present and the original anti crips, even when Pirus were allies with Crips. This brothers knowledge specifically about the formulation of the anti crip sets, that make up Bloods, was limited, and he seemed evasive. He says he wasn't with the unification of Van Ness Boys and Westside Brims speaks volumes. This unification is similar to the Black Stones unification with the Brims. The Brims controlled territory from Florence to Jefferson, and even included Aliso Village in East LA. They were the largest anti crip set on the Westside. This brother grew up with mostly Westside Crips and was a hustler, so it wasn't in his interest to unite with the biggest anti crip set on the Westside. Elgin was definitely around but I never heard about his name ringing like Terri ,Big and lil Country, Toni, Angel, Pumpkin, Rainbow, David Johnson, Treetop, Sugarbear, Katnip, Tomahawk, etc. The active riders will be more knowledgeable about gang bang events than just good homies , because they focused on those activities.. Disclaimer.. I’m not saying Elgins account or anyone else’s is 100% accurate I’m just saying no matter who does a interview someone will always shoot them down because of his gangster, or lack of, no matter how early or how late the person made an impact. Elgin had to be reputable or the brains to expand the Brims. I agree Elgin isn’t a name I ever heard of until I interviewed him but there are other Crips that knew him and respected his hand. Terry G name always comes up. We had him for a interview in 2007 when we interviewed Nipsey. I was doing real bad that month and couldn’t accommodate his wishes (Gas and a 5 star hotel for the weekend). He was later involved in a car accident and I really hate we didn’t pursue him harder back then, before I took the magazine to RU-vid. Terry, Lil Country, Big Country, Angel, Rainbow, Dave (Davey, David), Pumpkin, and Swigg (VNGB) names always come up.

I just always chuckle because when I first interviewed Cutes there was a lot of skepticism and critics saying they never heard of him, he must of did his time in protective custody, he wasn’t mentioned in books, blah blah blah. Seems like only the real hardcore gangbangers knew Cutes. The Magnificent 7 was mythical to the general public and the wanna be’s.

Ase K had nothing to do with what happened on 54th that night. Dude was not even in the car. How they tie Ase K to the killing is because a 52 Broadway stole his 64 Chevy. That was a drug deal that went left. The night of the Crenshaw game dudes was chillin at Chesterfield Park. The 52 snuck up and surrounded the car. One of those dudes had a .38 special. He pulled the trigger but the gun jammed. Dudes jumped out the car to fight. The 5 deuce dudes ran leaving they car behind. They would come back and steal Ase car which was sitting in front of his mama house. Now, there was a girl that lived over there. She would be the one who told about the party. That's how dudes knew. Ase K was in the dope house when this whole thing went down.

After met Lil Kountry I was banned by him from many places but I would sneak to a party, boy he would be pissed and of course I paid for it. Anyway if Swig was around during the psychedelic shack, then he went back farther than I thought. I heard of Swig in 1970 because him & Lil Kountry had some differences and I think the name was POPCORN. Swig main girl.
