The first night we camped out in our 2015 Promaster (self-built) we left the side door open it rained and not a drop came in. Must have been lucky, will be ordering some of that drip guard. Thank you. Nothing funnier than Irene on the rollerblades...can't wait. I have seen hully-rollers mounted on the aft roof bars. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I currently stand my kayak on end, climb up the rear door hinge and drag it up. At 67 I need a new approach.
10:24 - as a safety professional, i suggest a grab bar right in the door or outside. Concept is to always have three points of contact when climbing a step. two feet and a handrail or grab bar makes that three points of contact.
It's nice to see mods anybody, like me, can use, and not cost a fortune. (Drip edge, avocado tray, breadboard divider, among others and tips and tricks.👍)
Thanks guys. I’ve enjoyed watching your whole journey with George and now on your travels. I’m looking forward to doing my own build once my van arrives. I will incorporate numerous features that you and George have built into your van. I will have lots of time to plan as it will likely be March 2022 before my van finally arrives. Planning on full time living in the van primarily in British Columbia. Smoking’ hot here, pun intended, this past week. All time highs. Peaked at 44.7C day on June 30th. Hopefully we get some rain showers. Without the thunder and lightning.
Don't underestimate how heavy and PITA a kayak is to load and transport to the water. I had a 10' Wilderness Systems Tarpon Kayak and it was a handful. I enjoy your videos. 👍
Thanks! Yea, I expect a bit of PITA.🤣 Our inflatable kayak and paddle boards were a pain for different reasons. I’m hoping the pain is better than wishing I had a boat with me.😂
Thanks for sharing your creative and well thought out modifications. I am currently building out my own van, I'll be implementing a couple of your modifications :) I love your van and your videos, thanks for sharing such great content.
He's brilliant! Especially with the broom holding brackets & cutting board, trash can lift, and that handy drawer under the passengers seat...........👏👏👏👍excellent.
That’s a good option. Ours is our home and daily driver. We move sometimes every day or two so we need something that works getting in and out while running our daily errands.
@@CareyOnVagabond ours as well. When we leave, we just pop it in and lock up. When we’re parked it stays outside. But we’re old, we needed something stable and the correct height.
You hoo! Been waiting for this one! Nicely done and it doesn’t seem like you’ve had to do too many modifications. Necessity is the mother of invention!!
Well I like the latch that you don’t use . I’ll use the magnet of course . I can think of a lot of places I’d use that latch because I like the looks of it .
I love your van, you guys and George did a great job. And i love the mods, because you just don’t know what you don’t know. Can’t wait for the other videos in the series.
I really have been enjoying your adventures in your custom van. The best part is your departing tag line ... "Carey On." Just wanted to share my grandmother's maiden name was Carey and her first name was Irene. She was born in Texas, but lived much of her life in Oregon.
You probably remember the show "You Asked For It". More proof that a van build is never done. There's always some little mod that will make things work better.
Your additions and or modifications were really great. Great additions for ease of access for Pistols supplies and food water Etc. I like that drip rail edition. Didn't know that was available.
I watched your build series with George of Humble Road. I can't believe it has been a year. Boy did the time fly by. I LOVE all your mods. I too find filling the fresh tank to be cumbersome. I ordered a crutch tip and can't wait to copy your idea. Thank you two for being real. Happy traveling!
Great video, already ordered the gutter material. I also have a cutting board in the same location, going to install those hooks, brilliant. Thank you for the tips.
Great build and modifications! I'm always happy to see others in this lifestyle with a Boston. Pistol is awesome! I'm only part time right now and my Boston(Red), Lulu, comes with me. She's such a great travel companion! She prefers to lay on the blanket outside though..lol
Thanks for sharing your modifications! Especially the step on the running board - we find ours a bit too narrow, too, might just make one like you did. I actually fell out of our van a few months ago, while buiding it out, 4x4's are high! I survived, thankfully, but I want a larger step. A ways back when you showed your van tour, or maybe it was when George did his, there was a plastic square container for putting your outdoor rug in when traveling; did you make that? or buy it? Love to know...and continued happy travels!
I bought a plastic square tube for the outdoor rug but I couldn’t put a large enough rug in it. I actually use a large lawn chair bag to put my rolled up rug in and it works great!
Very nice. That’s your home on wheels. You can put a small curtain where your cutting board is. Very nice. How pistol gets on the bed ? Love your videos. Many Blessings 🥰🥰🥰🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks! We have a pull out step she can get on and off with. It’s usually out. Its probably in our first van tour video we did last summer. We’ll show it in a future video;)
Excellent and awaited video. Let me share a funny trivia with you, since you have an avocado tray on the van. Avocado, in spanish, "aguacate" comes from the Nahuatl (Mexican aboriginal language) and means "testicle", due to the avocado's perceived resemblance to a testicle. My advice to you is to always behave so that Irene never puts your avocados on the tray, jajaja. Since we are on "testicle trivia's category" (like in Jeopardy), I'll tell you that "Orchid" comes from the greek and also means testicle, hence the name of Orquitis for testicular inflamation.
Love the mods…especially the crutch tip🤣. My husband is famous for finding unique solutions in our van. I refer to him as McGuyver. Looks like you are good at “McGuyvering” too.😊
It's always amazing that even with months of planning you still find many changes that need to be made once your in the van and using it. Your mods are awesome and Dave has done a awesome job of executing them. On an unrelated issue have you been in contact with George? He has not posted in a few months and like many I wonder what's up.
Hi Dave and Irene, I'm curious about the ceiling storage area above your heads in the cab. We also have a RAM Promaster 3500 and ours does not have that. Is it from the manufacturer or did George put it in?
Hi guys! Great tour. Fab ideas. 👍👍. Two questions. 1. What brand and type is your outside windshield cover? These seem hard to snag in Canada at a reasonable price. Does it fold up quite small? My Roadtrek is on a chevy express 3500. 2. Dave - how thick is the pop up table including your custom top when in the down position? The Roadtrek has an incredibly horribly designed “cloverleaf” table that is hidden away in the kitchen area but hard to deploy and way too heavy for me. Can’t even get around it from any direction once employed. 👎👎 imo. So looking forward to the next two tour videos.
The windshield cover is actually an inside windshield cover that we had sitting on the outside. No idea who made it. Roadtrek was including them with their Promasters for a while. The folded table is about 1 3/4 inches deep when shut. What’s that, about 4.5 centimeters?🤷♂️😉
Question about your toilet. I know you have the toilet mounted to the wood insert with brackets that keep it from moving however. Is your wood insert held down with anything where is it simply just placed in there and nothing moves?
That pop up table at the door, should have been longer and you should have strateled it around the outlets or whatever they are that way it could have been even with the counter. It's not like you are gonna use the outlets constantly.
That was a thought but we actually use these USB ports constantly and after having a similar shelf in our last van, this height and length is perfect for our needs! Thanks for watching!
Hi Dave, The Mrs and I love yours, Irene and Pistol’s video. I couldn’t find the part for the awning impact hind backing plate you were talking about. Do you have a link?
@@CareyOnVagabond Thanks, It took over 7 months to get my awning and by that time we were finished with our build. Now I have hope for using those side brackets.
Your van is amazing how was you lived or traveled in Florida to shore help me with mine mine I call it the ghetto man because I built everything inside of it and it's such a mess I would love my man to look like yours or semi like yours love the owning I'm going to order some of those little gutters that was a good idea any more ideas
I have seen some people saying they modified their composting toilet so that the liquid goes into the grey water tank. It looks like you did not do this modification. I'm curious for your thoughts on why it is or is not a good idea.
Hmmm. I guess if dumping the bottle every few days is something one doesn’t like this would be an option. You’d have to dump the gray tank more often. Is it still a gray tank now?🤔 So I guess it depends on your preference. We like to keep our gray tank for just water. Interesting idea though.
@@CareyOnVagabond My understanding is that if you put solid waste into a tank it's a "black tank" but with liquid waste it's still a "grey tank". But I have no experience so I can't tell you how it works. I'm sure you could find someone in the camper van community who did this modification and can tell you if they are happy or not. I enjoy your videos. Carry on!
I could have but we had one in our last van and know from experience when stuff is on it and you need to go outside you need to be able to squeeze around it. It’s a balance.
The rain gutter is on amazon. We have a link to it on the products page on our website. Careyonvagabond.com There is also a link in our videos description. I think i had to order the heating director from Webasto.
No. The holes were drilled in the compartment that the urine container sits inside, not the urine container. When shower water gets into that compartment it can drain through.😉
I came to your channel from Humble Road, since I'm in the process of building out my own Promaster, and have stolen… er, borrowed… many ideas from your build. In the process, I've become a big fan of your on-the-road adventures and look forward to your posts every week. However, I think you may have missed a small mod-the humble paper towel holder. It wasn't there when you (and George) gave your initial van tour a year ago, so I assume you added it somewhere along the way. It's not a big item, of course, but it may be weeping in the corner for a while, since it didn't get even a supporting role in this video. 😂
🤣🤣Great catch! We actually talked about including it a while ago but totally ignored the poor thing when the camera was rolling. It’s probably not the only thing. We’ll do more of these videos and hopefully right these wrongs.😂
It's funny how the cheap and simple modifications work better than the expensive "professional" fittings. That water fill point would have infuriated me to the point of returning it to the builder. Such a poor design oversight.
@@mckennacreative6133 Thanks!🙏❤️I think our “secret” is that aside from being married, we are best friends and have a great deal of respect for each other. Might make for an interesting topic. So many things about our life seem so normal to us that we take it for granted.
