Vandal Hearts (PS1) Review! 

I adore this game. I played it in 1997 and still my favourite tactical rpg. Great story, characters, each battle is unique and different, and the strategy is far better well designed than square games like Front Mission or Final fantasy tactics

Great review! I just found this channel today. I really loved Vandal Hearts back in the day. My brother and I grew up playing Shining Force games on the Genesis, and so when this title came out, I remember loving the tactical battles and the more serious subject matter. You have very solid tastes in rpg's.

excellent and thorough review, I too missed out on this game back in the day.

One of the aspect then the game is so brutal is the blood of the enemies defeated. Also Vandal hearts is so underrated.

My favorite strategy rpg period. The story is brilliant, and although the gameplay is simple as far as strategy rpgs goes, the balancing and difficulty is second to non. For that reason I find the strategy element of Vandal Hearts over say, FF Tactics. It's a shame the sequel is nothing like the original.

Just discovered this game, its excellent. One thing I appreciate, very good camera angles, you could easily flip around.

This is one of my favourite games of all time. Probably second place ex aequo with Shenmue, MGS and Tomb Raider. All of them are different so it's hard to compare. Panzer Dragoon Saga is my favourite game.

I loved this game when I was a kid I found it totally by chance in a 2nd hand shop and still have the same copy today

i enjoyed your review of an old favorite of mine. one memory of this game is that it's the first one i ever played that had a cuss word in it- diego says "shit!" when a particular event occurs in the game. as a wee lad this was really cool and just added to how mature the story seemed.

I love this game 💗 it was the first T/SRPG I ever played and I still have my copy front childhood. The music is great. Especially the song that plays whenever Ash and Eleni have their heart to heart. My favorite character were Amon and Sara. Oh yah and the map where your escaping the possessed village was so intense for 10 year old me 😅 in fact I would say this game has so many amazing maps such as escaping the bridge, the city with all the crimson guard leaders and the train as well.

Certainly one of my favorites. Never got to do 100% and get the best ending, but it was still quite fun. Sequel wasn't too bad either, though I wish they hadn't altered the turn system to where enemies moved at the same time, it just made attacking way too annoying at times. Still, the story was pretty fun, and in some ways more grim and gray compared to the first. Shame that the series fell by the wayside, since the sequel's best ending implied another adventure and the return of Ash.

Even though the graphics didnt age well with the early 3d the story and gameplay is really good. Definitely a hidden gem. 8/10 game.

Great review! This was the first game I played for my own channel, challenging myself to have zero character deaths while finding 100% of the secrets. I'm not sure if you misspoke about the class branches, but the classes only branch off for the level 10 upgrade. The level 20 choice only shows the final option for that selected path. Maybe I misunderstood your wording. :P It would have been interesting if they further split the classes, like in Seiken Densetsu 3. I'm looking forward to your next video. :)

Excellent review/retrospective, I just unblistered mine (yeah I held it for so long right?) and playing it! What a blast, it aged a bit, true, but!: it kept the essence of the late 90's when PlayStation games where still a great surprise because there was simply new stuff to play ! I'm appreciating the game so far (ChapterV mission3), sometimes I failed during the process but it was often because i misplaced or didn't anticipate an ennemy move. At first the game can be frustrating but learning the mecanics as I got further into the story made me a dangerous adversary for the evil guys plotting behind the scene :)

Pretty much the only good title in the franchise. The "enemies move when you do" mechanic in the sequel ruined it for me. Yeah after a while you'd eventually get used to it and anticipate the enemy's moves but right until the end there were still instances of wasted turn every now and then because of it. I also don't remember the story at all, not sure how it was in that regard. I still remember the first game even though I only played it once, and that was like 15 years ago (played VH2 on PSP much later). As for the PSN game, the hideous character design made the TV shut itself off whenever I tried to purchase it!

idk know about this one but VH2 has amazing story as well, at least at start, the political, philosophical aspects of it are very deep and mature.

Playing vh on my MiSTer. Its a masterpiece imo.
