That CS80 sound is to die for. Iconic Vangelis. You cannot hear that sound and not associate it with Vangelis. Bladerunner soundtrack is the best ever.

You made me dream and travel in ways that I didn't think were possible. Thank you for your works, you were a light in the music world, which nowadays is losing quality fast, but now with your departure for the stars, became much, *MUCH* poorer. But for a time, you were here, and now your legacy will endure forever. Which means you will too in a way, because that's what happens with legends. Thank you.

i have listen to this demostration many times, i cant belive that its only a improvisation this wonderfull music , composed in that moment , my brain cant belive it , beyond my understanding
MIDI and computers are great, but there is something, some special quality in performances like this, real time WITHOUT any kind of sequences nor loops, pedal drone tones at most. Bravo!

What makes Vengelis great is the same thing that makes David Gilmour of Pink Floyd so great. Sure, there are many other musicians that can play what they do and play more technically challenging music, but they play only what needs to be played in the precise manor that it needs to be played. The production of their tone is also remarkable.
Vangelis is a virtuoso and there are videos where he is really shredding on the keys ! But his music on his albums is more or less more atmospheric and emotional than fast and furious, athough often very dynamic too.
Since my father had a tape with Chariots of Fire in the 80s I, as the under ten years old boy I was, fell in love with his music. For my father this just was a tape with some random new age stuff for all he knew - for me it is a defining part of my life since then...
Sleep Well Vangelis. Your music came from the heavens. It still feels raw that you passed away, but you left a gift for everyone to enjoy your music forever. For me, you were like a friend I never knew. Your music meant so much to me personally growing up. and also influenced me professionally as a musician. This is a non stop delight to 'see' Vangelis "creating" a piece in few minutes. What is prodigious is his ability to choose the right sounds to converge to what he is attempting, and the ability to exalt the powerful sounds to a deep ephemeral masterpiece...
J'avais un extrait d'une minute dans mon PC, téléchargé en 2003, à l'époque du 56k... Je trouve aujourd'hui, 18 ans plus tard, l'extrait complet... Le Yamaha CP-80 est l'instrument qui me fait le plus vibrer, ce ressenti est encore plus fort lorsque j'écoute Vangelis en jouer). Regardez à 2:40 la sensibilité, la précision et l'émotion qui se dégage de la plus petite note tout juste audible... Merci Vangelis et merci pour la partage !

Even if you think that this special gift of divine felling is his talent only, it actually came from his whole life experience - the way he lived, how he treated self and other people. The way he worked on himself, spiritually, opening his mind, learning all the time. It is no luck or talent - it is only a choice. Be wonderful person, and you will make wonderful music. Just connect with your soul. His music is pure expression of his soul.
Absolutely Love the sound of the Yamaha CS-80 it must have been his favourite Synth to use because you hear it's distinctive "Sounds" on most of his early albums

One of my all time favorites of his is Abraham's Theme from Chariots of Fire. Its such a haunting and yet satisfying slow theme. Few other pieces satisfy me as much.
I guess that the normal process for a "normal" gifted musician to create a piece like this one should be to work for days or weeks on the melody, on the sounds, on the arrangement... What do we get here : something which could appear on a very good Vangelis album, just perfect, great melodies, the right sound at the right place, played with so much sensitivity. And all this was just a 5 minutes improvisation... Vangelis, was unique. Of course there are many great musicians, great composers but Vangelis had a unique kind of genius. I will miss him a lot, his sublime melodies, his amazing sounds, his eternal desire to explore music under all its aspects.
Rip maestro, your music is a great part of childhood. My father (rip) played your music every single day. I still thank him for it everyday, your music lives on.
This is correct. He plays part of the main theme from Blade Runner, heard over the opening credits, over the opening cityscape and in Tears in Rain. This video is 1981 so maybe we are witnessing him create part of that theme during his improvisation.
Although without any significant formal musical education, he was a proof of learning through working resulting in splendid and outstanding musical outputs. As he kept claiming during his life, without knowing musical script he intuitively felt vibrations and universal frequential order music is coming from, and was able to transmit it to mankind owing to his devotion he luckily descovered rather early in himself and followed this path despite everything. His interviews are indeed a bright flame of aestethics and an excellent example of attitude that every musician in the world should listen to and reconsider, offering a plenty of matters such as the importance of beauty in human nature etc.

Vangélis , vous êtes mon Maître .Je vous suis , et je vous adore . Pour moi , vous êtes le Père de la musique électronique et un Pionnier .Pour moi , vous avez lancé le son électronique , qui va inspiré Tangerine et Jean Michel Jarre , lui aussi , mon maître .Que je suis , depuis 1978.
