A long term review of the Vango Banshee Pro 200 trek 2 person tent.
These tents are loved by some and hated by others, I will try to give a balanced view pointing out both the strengths and weaknesses of the Banshee 200 pro trek.
I have owned this tent for a number of years and I've finally got around to reviewing whats been my go to tent for hiking trips for the last couple of years.
I would consider this to be a 1 man tent and while it is not the most spacious tent on the market it is incredibly reliable for camping in bad weather.
This is also a great tent for a beginner owing to how easy it is to pitch and any weather conditions.

Technical specs
Weight: 2.39kg
Capacity: 2 Person Tent
Pitching Time: 7 mins
Trail Weight: 2.16kg
Flysheet and inner pitch together - Quick and easy to pitch and pack
Pre-angled poles - Achieve greater internal space than with a standard curve. Provides effective bracing against side winds
Patented Vango TBS II Tension Band System - increases tents performance in adverse conditions, especially in strong, changeable winds. Can be stowed away in calm weather
Walking pole attachment eyelet in door - Prop up the door with a walking pole to create a sheltered porch
70 denier, 6000mm lightweight polyester groundsheet - Waterproof, durable and reliable
Breathable polyester inner - Allows condensation to pass through, for a comfortable night's sleep
Twin flysheet doors - Allows easier access for two or more occupants, and/or additional storage
Flysheet door vent - Open from the top to ventilate porch
Inner pockets - Conveniently positioned pockets for organising essential items
Fastpack tent bag - Oversized opening for easy packing and compression straps to control pack size
Line-Lok guyline runners - Lock securely, simple to release and high performance in all conditions
Multiple reflective points - On pegging points for visibility in low light
Vivid reflective high strength guylines - Provides high visibility in low light
Factory taped seams - All flysheet and groundsheet seams are factory taped, giving a watertight seal
Weather tested beyond the European standard EN5912 by certified test centre
Fire retardant fabrics - Exceeds European EN5912 safety standard
Mesh Ceiling Storage Pocket - Convenient and easy to reach storage pocket on ceiling of tent

Yes, I've found that all tents are a compromise of size, weight, durability and price (and some, colour) it's a personal choice for each of us - what suits one person won't suit another and as we all know there is no perfect tent for every place or season. It's the annoying niggles like you mention though that make these reviews so important as they aren't obvious and unless you know someone with a tent you're interested in it's a minefield choosing one 👍

Very accurate and well presented reply, however I've got a problem with tent manufacturers. There is no excuse for not making the perfect tent, in various sizes, length, and height. Most people want decent ventilation which opens & closes, want a decent H.head, ability to sit up, and a vestibule to make a brew, its not rocket science...It seems to me that tent makers think the average camper is 5ft 8 - 5ft 10, solo campers don't eat or drink hot stuff, and sleep in their boots.

Thank you for posting this proper review. When I first started watching review vids, several of them were taking stuff out of the box/bag it came in and giving it a ‘review’. It took me a little while to realise those types of ‘reviews’ were worthless. That’s why I appreciate your video. You’ve actually had the tent for 3 years and used it a lot in adverse conditions. This video is really useful. It has encouraged me to plump for the 3 man tent and I’m confident these tents are up to the job. Thanks again. I’m subscribing after watching this!!

I've had vango tents for years, never had one break on me. As long as you treat them well the are great, never had one leak on me and they have always been easy to put and take down. Just got one of these and a vango trail lite 320 sleeping bag, got them for 50 and moved a sofa. Tent brand new(never opened) and sleeping bag maybe used 2 or 3 times. Looking forward to a light weight tent always had bigger ones

I bought my Banshee200 in the year 2015. In my eyes it `s a unicorn when it come to price/performance/durabilty alignment. It took me through many many average and some very heavy weathers. When you know how to ptich it right depending on the conditions you will be fine.

Thanks for the information,I've just pitched mine for the first time in my garden.It's a little bit claustrophobic compared to my old trusty dome tent but that only had a rating of 800mm and was rather heavy at 4kg.So all in all this should be a massive improvement for the west highland way in September. Cheers

this is the first tent I bought when I first wildcamped 3 years ago. I have the the 300 which is now my winter tent. I tend to use a stick and extra paracord and extra tent peg to raise the the door when cooking which I have done a few times and to look out . which is ideal in. a woodland. After all these years of looking after both of the tents are great tents. great honest review of this great tent. thank dude.

Awesome review! Vango quality! As a 6ft2 athletic guy, in my opinion the Vango Mirage Pro 200 is a far superior tent for backpacking. Semi-geodesic strength, much more space just a tiny bit heavier but just skip a week or 2 of deserts lol.

Great video. I've just sub'd. I love my Banshee 200. As you said in the video, great in all weather, small enough to put in a rucksack and not to heavy. And easy to pitch. This was my first proper wild camping tent. It replaced my old Lichfield apache dome tent with was also small but was inner pitch first which isn't ideal in bad weather. I got my Banshee second hand and it has been brilliant. I have looked for a tent for two people but at around the price of the Banshee there really isn't much choice with the same spec. For two people in probably looking at the Wild country Helm 3 compact at around £200. I also have a Nevis 200 but very similar in size.

Thanks for the sun, much appreciated. I have an OEX 3 person tent for when I go out with the Mrs.. it wasn’t cheap but it’s a bit of luxury and it splits into 2 for carrying and is outer pitch first. So it ticks a lot of boxes.

Don't have the Vango Banshee. But do have the Vango tempest 2000. Camped on Newgale Beach South Wales in storm Francis which was horrendous. By the morning no exaggeration 80% of the other tents on the site were flattened (many abandoned) Vango Tempest stood strong and Vango get my recommendation 100%.

Great review. The only unfortunate thing for anyone wanting one of these at the mo is that they seem to have become impossible to find. A friend has been trying to buy one for about 3 months now and there's been no stock anywhere. He also looked at the Vango Cairngorm which you can still get at a couple of places but only at a very inflated price. Not sure what's going on - I wonder if it's production issues (maybe Covid related) or if this model has been discontinued now.

That looks like a great tent actually. I wish I had seen your review before spending money on my Hille-Akto. Your Vango Banshee 200 looks like a proper 4-season tent with the strong poles and the stout chords. I do like the double-sided style as well. I have a Vango Soul 200 but that's much more of a summer tent and goes up inner-first so not great in bad weather. Can you pitch it with the footprint attached? As always MrCLB - a pro-quality video. :) W
@CampLifeBushcraft
@CampLifeBushcraft 3 года назад
When I got it I loved the 2 doors. great in the summer for air flow and having a great view, the tent I'd had prior was the Gelert solo, which is basically a coffin.. so the banshee seemed huge, but since then I've tried many tents/shelters and that has shrunk the banshee down comparatively speaking. I don't believe you can pitch with footprint. Thanks Warren. Dan

You say brass, I say copper...or rust...Did you really say the vent had a 'little hard on bit'? On a serious note...I can do serious...there are pro's and cons to every tent. What you lost in vestibule you've gained by having two entrances, something I've wished I had on my Akto at times. And the bag, especially with cold hands is, superb. The Akto has the same issue when lying down of face flapping and I have no chance of sitting up. I wouldn't swap tents, but I'd recommend the Banshee to anyone asking.
@CampLifeBushcraft
@CampLifeBushcraft 3 года назад
Yeah, its a tough little thing, I have other tents, another 1 man that is taller and very spacious, but in the wind it feels like it could blow away. as you say, pros and cons, the little banshee is great in the wind due in part to its shape I suppose. I always try to point it at the wind. I think copper was the word I was searching for.. it just wouldn't come!
