In this video, I review the Vangoa 5-string short-scale (26-inch long) mahogany resonator banjo. For full disclosure, Vangoa sent this instrument to me for review, at no cost to me.
It is available on Amazon at this Vangoa Store link (not an affiliate link):

I love that little banjo. That’s a really nice package with a lot of great accessories. I’m jealous. 😃

Nice Steve! I was sent the maple one. But interestingly it is 28 inches. I think they did a great job on these newer banjos!! Nice review and demo!

Thanks! I like the look of the 28-inch one too! Thanks for watching and commenting! Oh, and by the way, your CBG is almost ready! It has finally cooled off down here so I'm able to work in the garage again!

For what it's worth... I think I like this one better than the full-size banjo. It's unique and I really like the aesthetic with the reddish wood and chrome.

I got mine in maple to match my deering goodtime, very nice little banjo. The beginning of the video I noticed the 5th string wasn’t strung into the nut for yours? Not sure if you saw that
@stevesstrings5243

Nice! That's a nice one too! Yes, I noticed the 5th string issue you mentioned later, D'oh! It did not really matter for my playing at the time because I was only playing the four long strings. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I was recently watching a woodwork video on different exotic woods. The presenter warned that purple heart oxidizes to a dull brown once it is exposed to air.

Hi Steve, thanks a lot for the review. My boyfriend gave me one of these for christmas (another brand, but same thing) and I am trying to change strings. I think regular strings might not fit, but I've never had a banjo before... any advice? I used some ernie balls and they end breaking. Thanks again, cheers!

Because these have a tailpiece, rather than a tie bar bridge, they require longer strings. I suggest you get strings made for banjoleles or get tenor ukulele strings, since they are longer. I also suggest you use small round beads to run the strings through rather than just tying a knot in them. You can see what I'm talking about in this video of a fruit cake tin banjolele I just built. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k3xBXeGgjs4.htmlsi=wdjhKDl9HHZP6XgB Thanks for watching!

Hi Steve. Does it really sound much different from a 24” 4 string? One thing I like is that the clamps seem to be less intrusive. I have an ADM 4 string without any kind of arm rest and the clamps do make it more uncomfortable. I know the Vangoa 4 string does have one which really makes them a better choice than others without. Plus Vangoa does appear to have decent quality control. A plucky review!

Thanks! It has steel strings and a resonator so it is both brighter and louder than a nylon-string open-back banjolele. Vangoa makes some quality instruments that are well worth the money! Thanks for watching and commenting!

It can with heavier gauge strings, although you may have to buy each individually instead of in a set.
