@@ninaedwards345 Yes. She had her demons and was struggling with drug abuse in her life, but Taimak's thoughts on her are similar to the quote "Don't meet your heroes, because you may walk away feeling disappointed". Them not getting along may be a reason why "Last Dragon 2" never happened.
Plus he only wanted to pay her like 5,000.00 she helped with the script. Smh she would've had been great in the movie though. Berry Gordy gave her a better deal she got like 100,000.00 to be in Last Dragon starring role plus a record deal.
Vanity was a treasure. Prince was never able to replace her. He had control issues, controlled everybody and everything around him. Controlled vanity also. But she wasn't having it, she left saying the hell with that. She was suppose to do purple rain, but left at that time. They scrambled to replace her, ended up with apollonia. Vanity was irreplaceable, still is. She will forever outshine them all.
@COOLJETTS, It broke my heart to read that when she was briefly engaged to Nikki Sixx, bass guitarist for Motley Crue, he punched her and knocked her out. So horribly sad.
So pretty. Prince got all those brunettes. But he could never ever find anyone who matched her beauty and chicness. They were worlds apart in the end. But He died two months after she did.
I love how she covered up a bit the fact that she and Prince weren't on the best of terms at that time and how she didn't do "Purple Rain" because she and Prince broke up. She was definitely a class act!
@10:15 -- Look at the way Vanity's face lights up when she learns that Prince cleaned up at the Grammys the previous evening. She truly loved him and only wanted the best for him. She never said a single unkind word about him.
he probably told her that if she did, the public would call her a liar and her career would be over. and his connections could blacklist her lmfao. her success and failure both began and ended with him. he was a pompous ass.
Kudos to Bobbie for letting Denise talk so much and not have to stick to a tight script. This is lovely footage. She was such a talented woman, never of this world.
at 8:03 she says "I want to be remembered" if she only knew how much shes loved and adored all these years later, shes was a better actress than a singer and far too good for Hollywood, I personally fell in luv with her the first moment I seen her back in the 80's
I feel Bobbie genuinely like and care about Vanity. She was always seeking interviews with Vanity and she was always respectful of her. She never undermined anything Vanity would say or feel and she always gave her the respect of letting her finish her answers. Most everyone else that interviewed Vanity was a bit rude or tried to make her feel like she was only beautiful but not smart. Actually Vanity was extremely smart!!! Most people don’t know she was an artist that painted, draw, sculpted, wrote poetry, wrote music, including singing and dancing. And very few know that after she left the entertainment world… for a while she was Director of Public Relations for a computer company.
Love this💗 When people would look beyond her obvs stunning beauty, she was this amazing, kind, FUNNY, smart and humble soul. Even during the addiction years, u could see this amazing spirit. It was amazing to be able to chat with her on FB before she passed…a dream come true…she liked when I sent her funny cat vids. Such an amazing person, gone too soon 💗💐
That seemed to be true. She was looking out for Vanity. She knew Vanity was more than just a pretty face. She had real talent too and Bobbie knew that and complimented her on it.
After she almost lost her life in the hospital in LA, she gave herself to Jesus Christ... and totally devoted herself to spreading the gospel all over!!!!❤😇🤲
Awesome testimony. And the thing about her Is she didn't try to hide her past and pretend she had never done negative things like so many women do. She was well aware that people knew of her past behavior. She let her testimony speak for itself and do the work it was suppose to. She trusted her Creator more than her ego.
that's not a good thing, religion's are BRAINWASHING tools, for all you people stuck on s.... it's okay though, you gotta believe in something, as long as it's not yourself, you are making a lot of creepy people VERY RICH, with your tithes.
...and contrary to how she felt later in life, she IS remembered among the Jean Harlow's, the Greta Garbo's. and the Marlene Deitrichs. She WAS that high class an actress of her day, and nostalgia definitely proves that. She IS and ALWAYS WILL BE remembered as a great talent. RIP Denise. WE still love you.
She's mesmerizing. I love her voice and looking at her expressions. She doesn't have an ugly expression anywhere. So sad she had the addiction disease. She had a lot to offer the world if only she hadn't had that one demon.
Love, love, LOVE me some Vanity/Denise Matthews!!! What a stunningly gorgeous Black woman she was!!! Being the class act that she was, she didn't reveal the REAL reason why she didn't do Purple Rain...Prince didn't want to compensate her fairly for being his co-star.
In her autobiography book “Blame it on Vanity”; she left Prince suddenly without warning even though they were in love, because he was constantly cheating which made her jealous, so she also retaliated and started to make him jealous too. They were in love, the relationship was very intense but also toxic. To keep her sanity she left his world and decided to focus on her own dreams which turned into a hellish experience. She knew Prince was afraid of losing her completely so cashing a small cheque meant he would still have control over what she did. It was coming from a place of love. She left but that wasn’t the end as they were on and off into the 90s. She decided to stop seeing him when she accepted full time work as a minister for God. They kept in contact over via phone and letters and remained in love despite taking different life journeys. Prince’s 2016 Piano and Microphone tour was filled with the love songs he wrote about Vanity. From Dirty Mind to his last album Hit n Run Phase Two, had songs inspired by her. The other women simply did not have the same effect on him. He was not the same after she died 💔
@@lisha7774 you did a great job of putting this together you said it perfectly I love prince music and I do think he was fine as hell but let’s be real he didn’t know how to treat women. Vanity did the right thing with leaving she put her big girl drawers on and left as she should. Mayte should’ve did the same thing I personally think he did mayte worse than any of his girlfriends. Prince used women and when they left them he tried to shake them for leaving him he lowkey came off as a narcissist
@@vminajj1267 Hands down! Vanity must have been special to make him feel love of such depths. In “Adore” he said “Without you there is no me”.. he was never truly happy without her by his side. Mayte was mistreated & her parents were just as naive and blind as she was. I think Prince’s abusive childhood caused his narcissism and split personality. I admired and felt sorry for him. Prince only married Mayte to get one up on Vanity who married the year before. He chose the wedding theme as “Coincidence or Fate”... some alarm bells! He was in tears singing “The Beautiful Ones” after Vanity died and had to leave the stage after “A Case of You”. THEN said “We need a new story Oakland, it’s time for a new story” at his last concert and is found in his elevator 7 days later. Vanity’s song “7th Heaven” came to mind... but Lord knows! I suspect Prince was battling a chronic illness too but Vanity was definitely on his mind. I hope they reunited ☔️💜
@@vminajj1267 and @Lisha Justine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cVkFLNqTU1I.html Spoken by Vanity herself on the REAL reason that she left Prince starting at 12:33!!!! She also said this in her book!!! Prince's excessive cheating only strengthened her resolve to leave.
Denise the most gorgeous one ever. 💜wish she had stay for the movie Purple rain with Prince they look so gorgeous together also she'ss absolutely drop dead gorgeous❤
Her face is so pretty in a real way. Not forced just a wonder work of art by God like Athena or Cleopatra. Ursula Andress/Sophia Loren/Raquel Welch/Lena Horne....are some that have that one of a kind beauty. Vanity can stand next to any of them any day and be amazing.
@@dl2310 famous people are a lot more than their public image. As we now know from his relationship with Mayte Garcia, he was very controlling behind the scenes. For example, he forced her to pretend that their baby had not died while on camera with Oprah Winfrey. It was creepy, they just pretended the baby was alive. He barely even let her speak in that interview. Then he dumped her.
@@calisongbird he didn't force her she wanted to be there, as she stated they had an album to promote that was more important, she was a puppet, she loves attention and money she begs for it constantly for her rescue and for Kirk Johnson Love 4 one another charity that's how she rolls, her lies are always inconsistent
At the beginning, when Denise talks about the next film she'll star in, which was "Never too Young to Die," she mentions the actor who plays Blackie on General Hospital, she's referring to John Stamos. Suddenly I knew just how old this video is. Love John Stamos.
Much love ❤️ and respect ✊🏼 to Denise Matthews, grew up off of uh couple of her movies and everyone had a crush 😻 on her back in the days. I met her back in 2007, she was beautiful then. She will be missed. I know she is with the Lord.
Vanity had that “It” factor Sharon Osbourne speaks of, and I feel Prince saw that in her as well as her beauty and knew she could play a part in the entertainment industry, so he jump-started her career.
She and Prince were both two hurt people who had unresolved trauma from childhood. The fact that they lived as long as they did is a blessing though neither had a smooth ride even in adulthood, moreso Denise as a woman with limited talent and addiction challenges. Prince was a genius and made other people famous because of his talent. How deeply painful it must have been to be abandoned once again by those who claimed to love him. He was a young man and a rock star so I can't hold it against him for having multiple women, the majority of us are guilty of that in our youth. I think her thirst for success in addition to the hurt from him being unfaithful were both contributors to their separation. They were both guilty for hurting eachother like in any relationship. Too bad they didn't last. Purple Rain would have been awesome with her as leading lady, no doubt. Her career would have been so rich had she stayed close, no doubt, cause ya boy can write hits. I also think he would have had the opportunity to be a father had they remained together. He also would not have died alone, no doubt. They both had child-like wonder and were beautiful beyond the external. They seemed to complement eachother. We'll never really know. May they both rest in Paradise.
@@sahej6939 ikr, he wanted to name her vagina and made her think she had to sell sex in order to be successful. she wanted to be aretha franklin or diana ross. he never cared for her just used her.
I really appreciate they included the pre-production stuff with Ms. Wygant by herself at the end. It speaks to her professionalism, and gives a clue to those interested in the business as to what it entails.
Seeing her here and seeing what nikki said about her in his diary is sooo different. It amazes me she could be this cool and sweet on camera while behind closed doors there was so much sad stuff going on
Being a man that grew up around alot of women it's very easy to be one way in public and another in private. Some of the nicest people you know are bat shit at home. Add drugs to the mix it can get chaotic.
Most photogenic face that ever was. Stop all of her video clips anywhere, she never has a weird look. Perfect facial features. She loved the camera and the camera loved her back.
@@Vibeagain it's a pyramid sign that celebrities are required to show to continue to be paid and famous. It's not nonsense at all. Do your own research. I have been researching this for over 12 years and I know what I am talking about. Instead of referring to things you know nothing about as nonsense, educate yourself next time before commenting out of ignorance. Look it up for yourself. The devil is behind the entertainment industry. I thank God that she gave her life to Jesus and was loosed from the bondage she was in. Her real name is Denise Matthews. Instead of looking at Vanity of the world Look at her videos in which she preaches, evangelizes and testifies on where she was and how the Lord brought her out of it. God bless
