DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional builder. This is my 1st time mounting a 12.2 propane tank under a 2018 Ram Promaster 3500 Extended.
This install was a great success. It has been one year since this video was recorded and there has been absolutely no hitting or rubbing of the axel, e-brake likes, or spare tire on the propane tank.
Our propane tank fuels our furnace, stove, oven, 6 gallon hot water heater, and our bbq pit. A full tank lasts us around a month in the winter and 3 months in the summer.
If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a comment below. We have many more build videos coming out, so don’t forget to subscribe 😊

Really smart! Much safer than keeping it under your bed. May want to rust-proof those holes if it's not too late or too difficult since they would be a prime target for rust, especially if you are driving over snow that is covered with road salt.

Great Video! Wish I'd had it two months ago when I did mine for the extra confidence it'd all work out in the end haha. I did almost exactly the same, only I had the tank collar shortened and welded back on by a local fabricator for $60. Also, I plan on protecting the tank in some sort of gravel guard, maybe a thin metal or tough fabric. What are your thoughts on the tailpipe being near by? I've considered adding a little heat shield between it and the tank before taking any long drives... Looking forward to more videos
@LindseyandDannyVanlife
@LindseyandDannyVanlife 4 года назад
Lucian Clower I’m glad yours went well. I had all the same concerns you did/do and decided on not using a heat shied or covering the tank. I placed my hand between the tank and exhaust to see how hot it was and it was not bad. As far as the tank protection. I was up in the air on it and didn’t end up doing it. Mainly I ran out time before having to hit the road and then never did it. Fast forward 1 year later and all is great.

About to do this for my build as well! Couldn't you get even more clearance by having someone weld the cut off brackets nearly flush with the rest of the tank? I'd assume that would also negate the need to bend the brake cables as well

@@LindseyandDannyVanlife thanks for the quick reply! It is an electrically charged valve so you can install an on/off switch inside the van. The fill stations have to check the date on the tank, how can they do that? They are not going to crawl under a van. You can have remote fill, but they still have to check the date. Unless you fill it yourself with a portable tank, something I am considering, carrying an empty one just to get it filled and refill the permanent one, and can be filled without moving the van from another vehicle.
@LindseyandDannyVanlife
@LindseyandDannyVanlife 3 года назад
Negative, they don’t do that in real life where I have went (numerous places over the last 2 years). Also, all over the country.
@murraymadness4674
@murraymadness4674 3 года назад
@@LindseyandDannyVanlife OK, what I've learned is that permanently mounted "TANKS" do not have expiration dates so don't need checking, and what you installed was a Tank, not a portable cylinder that does need checking.

@LindseyandDannyVanlife

It could face the front, it’s the users choice. I chose towards the back for easy access to the lines/etc. with the spare out of the way there is a lot of room to work. It also adds extra protection for the lines in my opinion. I hope that helps, if you have more questions, ask away. 🤘 -Danny

11:49 - may I ask... how do you know the axle isn't gonna hit it? How do you measure that?? This looks super risky...
@LindseyandDannyVanlife
@LindseyandDannyVanlife 3 года назад
It is risky, but I did my own measurements and math and it worked out, I just cut it close. The axle should only move vertical and there is only a certain amount of space before the rear suspension hits the bumpers. So, I used that distance as gauge.

@@LindseyandDannyVanlife is there no other place under the van it would fit? I just got a promaster 2500, and to do this I'll have to move the spare since it not ext.
