First camp since returning from Alaska Job!
My name is Brian. I live on the road full time in my self built camper van. Join me on my adventures.
In this video I leave my parking spot in Lakes Region, Maine. I head towards North Conway, New Hampshire to meet up with a fellow nomad. We find a nice free camp in the White Mountain National Forest near North Conway. It it located on Forest Road17 off Town Hall Road which is right off Route 302. I go for a hike around Mountain Pond and find a neat shelter in the woods. It feels great to be back boondocking with the van!
Thanks for watching!

So good to have one of your videos to enjoy with my morning coffee with. Now that you are done with the Alaska gig, and seeing as it wasn't the "funnest" job you ever had, I would love to hear you sit and talk more about your expectations and what it ended up being like. What didn't you like, what did you like, what are your regrets and recommendations to those thinking of doing a job like this, and will you go back to Alaska? I love learning from your adventures, good and bad, it is all interesting to me.

"Leave No Trace"... except egg shells (at least cover!) and initials carved into trees and structures. I never understood the mentality... or lack of.. having to prove to others "I was here"?? These types just need to stay in their basements and avoid the daylight.

Great to see you back at it again. That orange mushroom growing on the stump was called chicken fat. It would be been great with your breakfast. Just trim it close to the base but leave the root behind so it can grow again. Very tasty. Looks like a nice trout and Bass lake. But after all that Salmon I bet fish isn't high on your menu right now 😂
@aprilz6540
@aprilz6540 6 лет назад
And the last two were porcini! Stumbled onto a bit of a gold mine there!
@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756
April Z I saw those but in the interest of keeping it simple I didn't want someone to pick a look alike and have any problems. I just point out simple to recognize mushrooms to peak people's interest in hunting edibles. But yep, they were peak!
@aprilz6540
@aprilz6540 6 лет назад
I don't think there are any boletes that are "kill-you-dead" poisonous. Of course, there are some iffy ones that some people can react to in a way that might make them wish they were dead...lol! In my woods we have tons of porcini and birch boletes along with oysters, but the chicken fat one I've not seen...that was really interesting. Now I have to go hunting again!
@beepseatsfindingfoodtreasu8756
April Z I see you have some knowledge in micillium I love hunting for new species of mushrooms and after years of learning how to identify and test them I'm ... confident 🤔 in my decisions but I always taste test and spore sample etc. Before I actually cook with them. It only takes one bad mushroom to, like you said. "Make you wish". Sofar I've been "lucky" but I try and think about it as I've learned well.

Based on my limited experience camping at a shelter like that on the Laurel Highlands Trail in Western PA, my recommendation is not to sleep in those types of shelters. Because they get a lot of use, people leave/create a lot of food scraps around the shelter, so it becomes home to a tremendous amount of rodents. We didn't get much sleep because we had mice crawling all over us all night. Good to see you back Brian.

North Conway...TOURIST TRAP!! Nailed it! Check out Gorham, N.H. a few good free spots at Appalachian Trailhead (great day hikes up into the Carters and the Mahoosucs) outside of town and the National Forest north of town is left alone by the AMC. It's time you do an Appalachian Trail thru-hike....best adventure you'll ever have....a great way to make $3000 last 6 months.
