Hey mate good job 👍. I blead mine 2-3yrs ago after replacing big-ends, HP oil line.. etc. and I used DIS at the time, but all the menus/options/procedures are exactly the same as you've shown here with ISTA-D, just the GUI has changed since the old DIS process. I've since evolved to be an ISTA man too so if/when it needs to be done again I'll use ISTA as well. Keep up the good fight mate they are worth it - Seeya

Thanks! ISTA seems to be a little on the slow side at times but it gets the job done! How long have you had your car? I always like to see what work/maintenance other owners have done :)

@@FindingSeconds haha that is a huuuge question! Had her for 8yrs and done pretty much everything that’s ever worn or failed on an E60, which is highly impractical for most owners but I_am_never_selling_mine. Replaced big-ends, HP line, late model engine bits listed on REALOEM I.e. cam-vanos gear, cam-chain guides & tensioner, piston oil squirters, etc. Some common failure items like throttle body actuators, SMG relays. Consumables items like brakes, PCVs, fuel filter & tank breather valves, radiator hoses, injectors, spark plugs, coils, engine mounts, water pump, thermostat, belts.. way too much to list. And added a few discrete enhancements like Bilstein B16 (EDC) shocks, RPI intake scoops & power pulleys.

That's fantastic! Great work. These are for sure vehicles of passion. I'm starting to get some SMG issues, I'm curious did you have any symptoms before doing the SMG relays? How many miles on your car? OK finally, how do you like the B16 EDC shocks?

Great job👌 Did mine last year with the Radiator out and that was painful and time consuming enough! Keep the vids coming as I do as much as I can myself! 👍

Thanks! I was trying to remove as little as possible but got caught out by the right hand solenoids. What tool did you end up getting to work for those? :)

This might be a silly question but do I have to disconnect something from the vanos system to run the bleed procedure? This is because I imagine it’s like bleeding the brakes where a hose has to be disconnected…
@FindingSeconds
@FindingSeconds 7 месяцев назад
No such thing as a silly question :) In short no. The bleeding procedure works the system and keeps building/releasing pressure. This helps work out the air internally. Great question!

I had all 4 of my Vanos solenoids replaced 2 and a half years ago genuine BMW parts, they went bad again going to cost another 2k to fix, I tried bleeding them 2 times and still not ok all are around 0.55, any suggestions?
@FindingSeconds
@FindingSeconds Год назад
When were your rod bearings last done and did they do the high pressure Vanos line when they did them? The high pressure line can fail internally and the Vanos solenoids are up stream from that. Ista should tell you there is an issue. How many miles have you done in 2.5 years?
@jc323socal3
@jc323socal3 Год назад
@@FindingSeconds the rod bearings and high pressure oil line were done 3 years ago and about 43,000 miles ago
@FindingSeconds
@FindingSeconds Год назад
I would get the Vanos pressure checked first. Dealers should have the equipment or you can buy a gauge or make one from plans on the net. If that’s low the Vanos pump is starting to fail (as long as the updated high pressure Vanos line was used).

How much is the labor for this job?
@FindingSeconds
@FindingSeconds 11 месяцев назад
I called my local BMW dealer to get a quote (I was interested too). Labor is $700 and parts through them was $1800. The prices on the solenoids has gone up a lot. It looks like RockAuto has an aftermarket version for $144 ea (so with tax to do an equal comparison it would be $634). No idea on the quality though!

So, when are you going to re-upload?
@FindingSeconds

I wish it were that quick :( This one took a week and a longer format one might be a couple of weeks out. There are a couple of videos scheduled already so it will be somewhere in there.

Weird video because you show removing the passenger side and then draining the radiator which is required to remove it from the car so you can access the driver side solenoids. If you pulled the radiator first, this would have sped up the job.
@FindingSeconds
@FindingSeconds Год назад
Appreciate the feedback. Not sure if you saw the text in the video but I had hoped to avoid draining the radiator. There’s no need to remove the radiator as there is plenty of room. In my experience each pipe you remove you increase the risk of a leak (especially on older higher mileage cars). My goal was to illustrate the least amount of work required. Now I know which tools are required I’m pretty sure I could do the right side (US passenger, UK driver) without removing the radiator hose.

Dude, you missed a great opportunity here to do a great video. No body has done this on RU-vid. Re-edit this video, narrated properly so we can fully grasp what it takes to do this. Don’t time lapse it. E60 M5 owner here: 3 machines. Not one.
@FindingSeconds

Ok that’s fair. Appreciate the comment. I was worried about the ISTA footage that didn’t come out. Was it at least legible? I really didn’t think anyone would care that much! I can take a look this week to see if I can get a better video out of the footage.

@@FindingSeconds ISTA segment is fine. Every video is a story. Don’t fast forward, we need to see the struggle.
