On our return journey to Bombay, we decided to stop for a day at Bhusaval to spend time with my uncle and family. My uncle used to be the DRM of Bhusaval at that time. This video footage is very precious to me, since it has my only coverage of WDM4 locos in action and a steam-hauled MG train. Apart from these, be sure to enjoy the following:
- Coverage of Varanasi station
- Sarnath Exp. getting shunted in
- Departure from Varanasi
- Race between WDM4 and WDM2 hauled trains
- Halts at Allahabad and Satna
- Skips of Kashi and Naini
- Meeting the WAP1-hauled North East Exp.
- Meeting the Kerala Exp. at Itarsi
- Arrival of Jhelum Exp. at Itarsi
- Crossing the Ganga and Yamuna rivers
Video of the Mahanagri Exp. journey from Bombay to Varanasi can be seen here - • Bombay to Varanasi by ...

@@swapnilp5774 Rajdhani and Shatabdi during ICF days only looked better when all the coaches in an ICF Rajdhani and Shatabdi had same uniform livery including the generator cars without having any mismatch or mess up of livery along with matching liveried WAP1 for both Rajdhani and Shatabdi. I feel even the WCAM2/3 in DC sections of WR and CR and WAP5/7 also should have been made as such having matching livery with both ICF Rajdhani and Shatabdi. Karnavati Superfast, Deccan Queen and Taj express had Shatabdi liveried ICF coaches with matching liveried WAP1 or WCAM2/3 along with Shatabdis. Jnaneshwari Superdelux, Swaraaj and Tamil Nadu express had Rajdhani liveried ICF coaches with matching liveried WAP1 along with Rajdhanis.

From this I gather that there were most of the stations at that time. At that time, the railway station was electrified. Many stations were electrified in the 70s and today they have become very old. Now efforts are being made to replace and renovate them so that their electrification life is maintained. Kanpur Central is the busiest railway station in India. Kanpur Central was electrified in 1971 itself. Now Kanpur Central has been newly developed and its electrification has been maintained. Work to promote electrification has already been done in India and today it has become successful. India has the highest electrification and railway network and nowhere else. Thank You for uploading video, it's an great and awesome ❤🎉

Those days unique liveried trains had more values after Rajdhani and Shatabdi in comparison to other Superfast trains.. Those days no doubt Superfast trains such as Karnavati and Deccan Queen were in the lines of Shatabdi and Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj were in the lines of Rajdhani just like todays times, but the reason why Superfast trains like Karnavati and Deccan Queen in the lines of Shatabdi and Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj in the lines of Rajdhani became popular after Rajdhani and Shatabdi is because of their unique liveries more than being a Superfast. Today Superfasts have value but those days unique liveries had more value.

I feel a WAM4 always 100 times look better than Alcos. WAM4 are way better looking than the Alcos. But WAM4 doesn't look nice on Superfast trains whereas WAP5/7 never ever look nice on non Superfast express trains. Alcos should only haul such mail/express trains which change the traction to WAM4 only regularly while changing the loco from diesel to electric. Superfast trains especially which only get WAPs and never even a WAM4, alcos should never ever even touch those trains like Rajdhani/Jnaneshwari/Swaraaj and Shatabdi/Karnavati/Deccan Queen. Rajdhani and Shatabdi rarely used to get WAM4 but mostly WAPs, on other Superfast trains like Jnaneshwari Superdelux, Swaraaj, Karnavati Superfast and Deccan Queen, even a WAM4 or WCAM1 never look nice on them and only WAP1/5/7 or WCAM2/3 only look nice with them. Alcos should not even dream of shunting these trains I feel. Alcos should only be restricted to haul those mail/express trains which are hauled by WAM4 only regularly as the electric traction loco counterpart.

Wow, choking with emotions. I was a young lad in the early 90s and was a vagabond of sorts much to my old man's chagrin. All those ticketless journeys I took in those days came back to me. As a fit athletic lad I remember hopping off running trains if I saw a TC approaching. Those carefree days with no mobile phones and just 20-30 rupees in my pocket, sometimes nothing....I would just hop onto any train on my days off school or college. Sometimes walking back or hitchhiking. Looking back now as a father myself, I now realize why my old man used to be so pissed off at me those days. He passed away last year and watching this video brought back all those train travels with them as a child and later my own testosterone fuelled carefree adventures as a teenager. That camcorder must have cost you a fortune back then. Which one was it ? Is it still with you and working ?

I travelled without tickets on kolkata Suburban trains on SDAH south division from 2008-2011 (11th standard to graduation second year). Yeah it was a real fun. My uncle dodged a TC on Secunderabad bound kakitiya shuttle. He travelled ticketless from warangal to Secunderabad and nicely dodged the TC. One of my friends travelled full ticketless in Lucknow Delhi Shatabdi. He travelled fully ticketless from Lucknow to New Delhi by the Shatabdi and had dodged the checker but onboard journey somehow bribed the Pantry service people and purchased some nice non-veg food onboard journey but had dodged the TC.

Everytime playing with TC is not very relaxing. It's no doubt great adventure but creates a heavy stress in mind. Every second one has to be alert for not getting caught. After two or more times this adventure becomes very stress giving and not relaxing. Better to always go for choosing paths which won't take away the piece of mind.

I love seeing NG NDM/ZDM and WAP5/7 beside each other. They're really very cute and more cute whenever seen together. WAM4 (like Tata) and WDM (like RTM) look good together with express train. Whichever trains run in both electrified as well as unelectrified routes should be express train and whichever such trains get RTM WDM in unelectrified route must get Tata type WAM4 only on the electrified routes and vice Versa such as Hyderabad Mumbai express, Ajmer Banglore, Sayajinagri, Saurashtra, Sabarmati, Okha Gorakhpur express, Veraval Jabalpur express, Rajkot Secunderabad express, Udayan express, Konark express, Aravalli express and ranakpur express etc. From 2016 onwards that's what I feel like.

I was born in 2005 its so good and overwhelming. Not only as IR fan but also watching the 90's era in reality which even movies didn't show the true dressing style and traffic and Tata trucks everthing is just awesome I literally don't have words for it and also I guess you are rich cause having a camera in 90's and also recording just a travel must be costly at that time thank you so mucj sir for sharing this video.

What a beautiful surroundings ❤ the rsilway tracks were not painted with gutka colour, the varanasi ghats were peaceful, people were busy with their own ones, a world free from all negative impacts of technological advancements. Can you even see the clear sky in broad day light at a city like Varanasi ? Now a days its mostly filled up with smog and pollution. What an era it was. Thank you for capturing and sharing these amszing moments ❤

Do you know during that time WR (Mumbai Vadodara/Ahmedabad) always messed up with loco links between WCAM1 and WCAM2/2p among express and SF trains whereas CR (Mumbai Pune/Igatpuri) always messed up with loco links between WCG2 and WCAM3 among express and SF trains a lot since early to mid 2000. WAM4 and WAPs were never messed up or mismatched between the required express and Superfast trains as loco links in the pure AC section such as Howrah to Igatpuri in Howrah Mumbai route and Delhi to Vadodara in Delhi Mumbai route. Navjivan was the first train I saw having AB blue liveried coaches with diesel loco. Ahmedabad Howrah express and Howrah Mumbai mail were the first trains I saw getting upgraded from express to Superfast category along with their loco link changing from the initial regular WAM4 to the later permanent SRC WAP1/4 by 2000s at the same time while their coaches changed from VB maroon liveried to AB blue liveried ones. Ahimsa express and Ajmer Banglore express were the first trains I saw getting WCAM2/3 link during early 2000 despite being an ordinary express trains from starting till now and always deserving a WCAM1 though later by mid 2000s they got WCAM1 regularly. Gujrat mail and Mumbai Jaipur SF too got upgraded to SF category from express being initially along with coaches having transition phase from VB maroon liveried to AB blue liveried ones but they sometimes got WCAM1 and sometimes WCAM2/2p link and loco links changed between WCAM1 and WCAM2/2p anytime. Gujrat Queen was the first train which always remained express category from starting till now and always deserving WAM4 was the first express category train which got WAP1/4 despite always remaining under express category till now but got both WAM4 as well as WAP1/4 alternatively. Sahyadri express and Mumbai Hyderabad express initially got WCG2 regularly, later loco link changed to WCAM3 by early 2000 along with coaches changing from VB maroon liveried to AB blue liveried, by mid 2000s again started getting WCG2 loco link regularly and by late 2000s again loco link changed to WCAM3. But these trains were never Superfasts and were express only. Mumbai Ferozepur Janta and Sabarmati express were heavily criticised whereas Awadh express and Gitanjali were appreciated for their food.

Wow. Such a gem 💎 of a video. Kudos ro you Mr Mani for shooting this and loading here on RU-vid do that people like me who had soent their childhood in 90s can go back in time and recall the train journey memories of 90s. The coaches of Indian trains transitioned to blue colour towards 1999-2000. Train journey was a beautiful experience those days. I had been to this route ( Allahabad - Varanasi) in October, 1991 with my parents on Neelanchal Express which starts from Puri in Odisha. We got down at Allahabad station ❤. But one thing is platforms are better now and well maintained and clean compared to those days.

WDM looks good with WAM4 legend only. Any train (express) hauled by WAM4 (as a permanent loco link) only in electrified routes only look better with WDM on unelectrified routes while changing traction between electric and diesel. WDP2D/4D look better with WAP1/4. Loco change from WDM to WAM4 looks better. Loco change from WDP2D/4D to WAP1/4 looks better. I really don't like it when trains getting WDM don't get WAM 4 while changing the loco from diesel to electric. Especially mail/express trains. Superfasts toh I don't like in diesel only.

Vijay sir has seen the phase when electrification just started out slowly and steadily in diesel dominating IR. He has seen the time when there were no WAPs or no WCAM2/3 and Rajdhani and Shatabdi had to manage with WAM4, WCAM1 as well as with WDM in unelectrified routes. Vijay sir has seen all that out of which, some we can't accept even if it's true with evidence in front of us. It's always essential to listen and learn from the knowledge and experience of our seniors who has been there in this world when we were not and also have seen and experienced things which we might never have till now or will never get.

WCAM1s should have been like WCG2 or WAM4 type design and WCAM2/3 should have been WAP1/5/7 design then would have been really much much better those days. Jnaneshwari looked nice with Rajdhani liveried coaches and matching liveried WAP1 and Karnavati looked nice with Shatabdi liveried coaches and matching liveried WCAM2/3 those days. Swaraaj was next to Rajdhani and Deccan Queen was next to Shatabdi with WAP 1 and WCAM2/3 loco those days. Because of Vijay sir I know that even Rajdhani and Shatabdi got WCAM1 and WAM4 locos. Sometimes Shatabdis had 50/- Rajdhani liveried coaches including generator cars and other coaches, sometimes Rajdhanis had only both generator cars and pantry car in Shatabdi liveried coach.

From early to mid 2000s :- In CR, after Mumbai Pune Shatabdi and Deccan Queen many express trains such as Ahimsa express and Ajmer Banglore express started getting WCAM3 . In SER and ER, many trains after Howrah Rajdhani and Jnaneshwari Superdelux such as Ahmedabad Howrah express and Howrah Mumbai mail started getting SRC WAP1. In WR, many trains after Mumbai Rajdhani and Swaraaj started getting BRC WAP1 such as Gujarat Queen and Veraval Jabalpur express. Also in WR, many trains after Ahmedabad Mumbai Shatabdi and Karnavati Superfast started getting WCAM2/2P such as Jaipur Mumbai SF and Gujarat mail.

Whenever I hear the word nostalgic for those days in IR, in my mind always the picture of Jnaneshwari Superdelux and Swaraaj having Rajdhani liveried ICF coaches with matching liveried WAP1 and Karnavati Superfast and Deccan Queen with Shatabdi liveried ICF coaches and matching liveried WCAM2/3 comes in mind. Believe me, SF trains such as Karnavati, Deccan Queen, Jnaneshwari and Swaraaj having unique liveries were really very nostalgic to see those days. Later on WAP 1 and WCAM2/3 were seen in other non SF trains as well such as Howrah Mumbai mail, Ahimsa, Gujrat Queen, Veraval Jabalpur express, Ajmer Banglore express, Gujrat mail etc. Rajdhanis and Shatabdis were too nostalgic to watch during those days. But unique liveried trains were having more values compared to Superfasts those days after Rajdhani and Shatabdi. WAP1 and WCAM2/2p have literally created nostalgic golden memories in my mind during 1990s and early 2000s. All the Superfast trains in those days having ICF coaches should have had cream Blue liveried coaches and orange cream liveried coaches.

There was something in Indian Railways at those times!!!!The "RAW POWER 😎💪😈👿"of the Alco engines, the smell of smoke, the chuk~chuk sound of the Steam engines🚂💣{even today, some people describe train's sound as chuk~chuk},the legendary disciplined liveries of the trains which is missing now with either huge advertising stickers or with too much of complex designs and paintings on the coaches and engines, the well maintained speeds, the sweet rythym of the trains while running, the track sounds💣💚,the creativity in making the liveries, such as some Alcos used to have green colour at the bottom of the maroon coloured Alcos, whereas,Indian Railways now use only limited no.of colours and so on,the dual gauges 'nd so on!!!!!! Secondly, ahhhh!!!!!Those golden 90's!!!!!{I'm getting goosebumps while describing these golden indescribables!}!!!!! Those were the times of simplicity, down~to~earthnessess, creativities, pure emotional bonds, innocence, original happiness, original mindfulness in most of the things!!!!!There was a smell of soil and fresh air and essences of genuinity in most of the things🌱!!!!!The Malgudi days,,,, Shaktimaan,,,,Bobby Deol with long hair, Sachin Tendulkar,Vinod Kamble,Mahabharat💣🚩🌙,Ramayan🚩🌙🌱💣,The Undertaker 😈👿💣🌙🔔🕯️⚱️⚰️🌵🦇💀👿🖤in WWF{now WWE},Baichung Bhutia, Shahrukh Khan,Sunny Deol,Anil Kapoor,Rahul Roy,the melodious era of Kumar Shanu,Chandan Das,"Bhagan~Samrat"Anup Jalota,Jagjit Singh,Chitra Singh, Ghulam Ali,Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,Udit Narayan, Abhijit,Lata Mangeshkar,Asha Bhosle,Pankaj Udas,Suresh Wadekar,Mahendra Kapoor, Mohammad Aziz,Vinot Rathore,Bala Subramaniam, Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy,Alka Yagnik, Sadhna Sargam, Nadeem~Shravan,Palash Sen{who can forget his song,Maheri} and so on💘🧡💚💜💛🖤🧡💚❤️💚!!!!! Most of the people were also genuine minded, emotionally connected and grounded!!!!! The essence of these qualities was impacted in train journeys/trips also!!!!! People used to share their albums, pictures, thoughts, food, sometimes their seats for childrens with each other!!!!!Some co~passengers also became close relatives in the future!!!!! No one felt like a stranger, even if they were travelling in the train, alone!!!!!!No hecticness,no business in phones, less quarrels with passengers!!!!!There was a homely feeling in trains, those days!!!! There was a long rail~strike once in Katwa Station of West Bengal and we were in Teesta Torhsa Express🚂 & we were suffering in train in the hot summer!!!! Everyone kept wet towels in the windows,my Ma took me to a tube~well in station to bathe me,we along with some co~passengers, shared our food, snacks and buyed fruits or teas from hockers and shared those, among us!!!!!One didi, gathered all the kids including me,in the coach and told stories to us and kept us busy from getting bored and running here and there,as she knew us for a long time and as she is our guardian!!!!!!This was around 1998-99!!!!! Those were the down~to~earth days of trueness, emotional attachments, essences of originality and greenary and so on!!!!!! Our Indian Railways is now just progressive nowadays!!!!!At those times,it was progressive and beautiful as well!!!!!Those engines, coaches, stations, vapour lights, liveries, passengers, got stuck with our emotions!!!!!! Hopefully, those spans comes back!!!!!No fakeness,no materialisticness and more essence of soil, rawness and greenery in most of the things and hopefully, the Indian trains becomes our "RAILGARIS🚂🌋",again!!!!!😢 Anyways: Sorry, for making this a too-lengthy statement! Amazingly written with such an outpouring of emotions from a true railfan and a connoisseur of the good old days. I totally agree with what you said. Before, there was a certain romance and I miss so much of what IR had to offer us in the 70s to 90s. I don't even know if IR is truly progressing. It seems to be in the vice-grip of politicians and all kinds of strange decisions are being made including slowing down of many Durontos and a huge flood of trains from Bihar to all corners of India. IR is yet to get away from its stinking Delhi-centric mentality. There is a plan to introduce another Rajdhani between YPR and Delhi YET there is not even a single superfast between Mumbai and Bangalore. Is this progress? This is chaos, in my humble opinion. I felt in love with IR of the 70s and 80s and it pains me to end to see the tamasha that is happening nowadays. A huge scam called Project Unigauge was initiated by the father of all corrupt RMs - Jaffer Sharieff - and instead of a planned approach for BG and MG to coexist such as dual gauges and the creation of hubs, we have this present network where random long distances exist all over but with no guarantee of punctuality or shoddy maintenance and service. Not to mention those hideous looking rakes with multiple liveries. I would love to connect with you. Here is my facebook page - facebook.com/mani.vijay1

If you have not already, please do go through my collection of 1992, 1995, 1999, 2000 videos because you might be able to relive those glory years of IR through these videos. How I wish I had a camera in the 70s and early 80s when I could have captured such resplendent uniform liveries on select trains. And there were so many trains which had a matched livery loco as well - a concept that is now completely foreign to IR.
