The thing with Conan is that he's not only a comedy genius, he's also a very decent human being. Because of that, he will always be beloved and have a loyal following. ❤️❤️❤️
John is right, the chemistry of Norm & Conan is unparalleled, literally one of the best Conan guests, was so hoping he would be one of the first guests for Conan's new show but unfortunately not gonna happen. RIP Norm
While we might appreciate all the nominated series, we have to remind ourselves that John Oliver's show is a beacon of sanity in a country that tends to go insane.
@@The_._._Truth I am glad they did. Colbert helped the liberals cope with the reality of the Trump administration and his contribution is not overlooked, but his impact has, on a social scale, less weight. While Colbert uses the everyday reality to deliver a joke, including the punchline, within 30-60 seconds, Oliver spends weeks of research and tens of minutes of airtime to address a major problem that plagues our country. You just can't compare the two, John Oliver is in a league of his own. The only one that came close to this level of achievement was Jon Stewart, who is now, regrettably, semi-retired. On the raw entertainment side of the coin, Oliver's show endings are the funniest things on TV in the 21st century, but that is purely subjective.
The fact he took that opportunity to say something about Norm says all that needs to be said. Unreal tribute. Than you so much John. Can’t believe I didn’t see this until now.
Tbh even though I love John Olivier, Conan should’ve won, and also even though most of his speech was basically praising him, that’s still kinda a slap on the face for him because he’s literally the best.
Awards are what exactly? I would like to think comedians like Conan and Norm are playing at a higher level. One so high, most people don't recognize just how good they are in the moment, but years later.
John Oliver said what we have been saying about Conan and Norm alone on their impacts and them two being together. Only difference is that he let everyone kno about it in that room and spoke for us. Thanks John, Conan, and Norm
Love you John and congratulations! specially for paying tribute to Norm & Conan. I’ve been truly spending my last nights watching Norm & Conan shows over and over again on RU-vid.
I can't believe Conan didn't win and their table is like at the back lol I mean c'mon John is great but man Conan's comedy is ugh whatever RIP Norm. Conan seems happy anyway with or without any award :) Nice of John to give him a shoutout.
idk how these awards work but literally when you are a living legend as Conan I don't think an award can do anything. btw always loved Conan and his humour. still waiting for him to get a lifetime achievement award if it exist.
Great response by Conan. Belonged to Conan. John Oliver is good and I like him, however Conan is a legend who always delivers and has content that sticks in your mind. Nobody is binging John Oliver stuff from 20 years ago to this day. Nor will they in 20 years from now I'd wager. Sorry to go all Kanye. Congrats John!
@@Mistermatt1984 well, John is doing a current events show. Comedy about current events is rarely timeless. What is the greatest Daily Show bit? Exactly.
No offense to John Oliver and his show, I love love his coverage always. But I do think that the variety talk show should be divided into the type of format, like daily shows should be separate from weekly show format because there’s a clear advantage on prep time, and interview form, etc. Just my opinion..no hate.☺️
Totally agree. When this category started, the shows in the category were more or less pretty similar; now it’s a true stretch to try to fit it all in one category. (John’s show largely pioneered that shift.)
As much as I love John Oliver, I am really tired of him winning every year. There's a lot of greatness in late night right now. I will admit, the research that John's team does, and the topics that they choose to shed light on are admirable. But I sure would like to see another show get some recognition, because they all bring something wonderful. Conan is an absolute legend.
@@arctic_haze I’m not blaming John in any way. He is the recipient and received the honor fairly. I do like his show and watch it all the time. What I’m saying is that I watch them all and I see the effort and brilliance in all of them. They are all deserving.
I still kind of feel like political satire and comedy should be two diffrent categories for variety shows, like drama and comedy at the Golden Globes. It's hard to compare John Oliver or Trevor Noah with their super well researched political pieces with the way more comedy focused shows of Conan and Jimmy Fallon, were they have a bunch of sketches and stand up comedy.
don't compare John and Trevor .trevor's pieces are hardly detailed or researched while John does actual investigation and researchh into topics that most people would not give a shit about .I mean can you imagine trevor doing a piece about special district or municipal bonds
@@vaibhavshukla9288 Not comparing, I'm just saying that John and Trevor fall into the same category of political satire while Conan and Jimmy are more of comedy. I'm not making any comment on the quality of those shows.
Seems that the political comedy always wins in America. Conan's comedy is timeless and silly and makes me forget all the bad things in the world just for a moment. And that's why he should have won. Jon Oliver is good but Conan is just so great in many levels.
Nothing against Oliver, but I strongly suspect that the reason he keeps winning is that the celebritariat has collectively decided that they don’t want to play favorites among any of the shows that actually have guests. Not good to alienate the publicity machine that feeds you. Also they know that Oliver tackles worthy subjects so it’s a convenient form of virtue signaling. Personally, I would have given it to Colbert, which has really been killing it this season. Oh well. Though I, too, would not have minded a parting emmy for Conan.
@Jmt1000 because you are woke too. What he js doing is not rocket science and reporting on those issues is not hard at all. Anyone who wants to learn abt those matters can read one good article and would learn much more than from his shows. He is barely funny. Colbert deserved it each and every year during the Trump years. I cant emphasize enough how unfair it was to him
If all that was left of John Oliver was his toucan like complexion and a thick pair of glasses, he’d still be more or less of a man than anyone I've ever met....
No he talks to the audience, not himself. And rather than inane and ultimately meaningless talks with celebrity guests he talks about things that are important
