@@Eudaimaniac44 I know I thought at least Bill Maher isn't on the list. The others even joke about it on their shows...oh John Oliver will get it, so why bother, they say sarcastically. But JO really has the best show. All the others are really good, except the non nominated Bill Maher, but Oliver is just another level. I'm not sure it's entirely fair to put the nightly shows in there with the weekly shows but I'm glad Oliver won again. It's a must and a go-to to understand the big and little pictures. The others are good for the news Oliver doesn't cover.
@@roems6396 BEFORE 2015 it was Outstanding Variety Series where SNL BATTLE with the late night talk shows and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart won the award for ten years consecutively (2003-2012),
John Oliver has been winning this category every year since his show started in HBO. At this point, they should just rename this category as the John Oliver Shows instead of Talk Show.

I think they win because the team at Last week tonight go the extra mile to research fundamental societal issues to an incredible depth and then present it in such a concise and humorous way while even proposing solutions to the issues! They should be nominated for a NOBEL prize too!
You get a novel price for doing work, ie fixing the issue, not complaining about it. & they don't go the extra mile, they are a different format, most notably in that they do only one episode per week, & do far less weeks of they year than the others, so they have less tome to worl on bigger projects, focusing more on the day to day
John Oliver and his team deserves it, but I would love to say that thank you Trevor Noah and Stephen Colber, because these three shows make my days. Also I love that everyone is not surprised that Last Weeek with John Oliver did it again and they are just laughing and cheering because they are good sports and later they joke about it in their own shows with no malice. I just love friendships among comedians. Brilliant.
There there, John is becoming better and better at acceptance speeches and being praised. After all these years of winning EVERY YEAR - PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT 😉 Congratulations, John! Truly, every nomitated show deserves the award. They all are great! Including a few that were not nominated! Bunch of takented clever people doing a great job!
Stephen, Seth, Trevor, and John are all up there in my opinion. Such intelligent humor helping me come to terms with the daily crap we all face. John does a great job fusing facts with being funny…I just don’t feel like we get enough of him. The others are putting content out most days while he is once a week. It feel like comparing delicious apples to delicious oranges to me.
@@rohitr9400 A People's Choice might go to Gutfeld on Fox News. Hard to measure exactly because of time period differences and availability in homes but it's pretty close.
i make a point of watching all the late night hosts & john oliver & they all have their moments when they make me laugh out loud, i consider myself difficult to amuse as i am very critical of all comedy types, i think the level of detail that oliver's show goes into for every episode gives him the edge, just.
Just make a "Comedians desperately trying to save the world and teach us important things" - category for LWT to win. Then Seth can finally have a chance to win this one. But Jokes aside, my sincere congratulations to the staff of LWT! Absolutely deserved win and thank you all so much for your passion and hard work. I appreciate it very much 💐
Erik. I did too and also that he talked about the stop cue cards and how confusing they are. This is network tv isn't it? I think they allowed him the same freedom HBO does or they didn't catch it in time. Or maybe they'd think he'd be offended if they censored him. It's John being John, the king of political comedy. But yes, I rely on the daily shows more like Trevor and Colbert but look forward to Oliver.
@televisionacademy I get it if The Emmy was for "Doing the LEAST amount of shows a year", or the Emmy for "This show doesn't even hit double digits in a season", but an Emmy because he's got an accent and does the odd stunt? It's insulting to the other shows that have people working non-stop to create a full year of work.
Chris I never thought of that seriously. I assumed you're being sarcastic but he did do that piece on Harvey Weinstein and talked about Hollywood. Maybe you're onto something. We'll give you awards if you don't do an expose on us. ???
I love love love John Oliver ... but still sad that Trevor Noah, Colbert, Kimmel and Seth Meyers go home without an Emmy year after year. He's great but I don't think this makes sense.
