One card that could be added as an upgrade is Reconnaissance. It lets you untap all your zombies if they end up in unfavorable blocks and still get the Varina trigger, but more importantly it grants pseudo vigilance because after damage you can still untap them.

So happy with the new style. Not reading every card aloud is so much more friendly, and really shows a greater understanding of your audience. It really was quite painful before :) Keep up the good work! I do still have to watch your videos at at least 1.25x speed, because I'm not sure if someone told you to speak slowly when reading aloud or if it's just you; but as an Australian it make me think I am having a stroke.

I love my Varina deck and I know her looting effect is good, but it can really suck if you have an empty hand to begin with. I like using Library of Leng to help my discards be more selective. Great deck!

Hey Mitch, I am a new commander player and new subscriber and I wanna thank you. I was always tempted by commander but the players at my LGS all have very expensive decks and when I played with them with a precon deck i got destroyed. That was before I found your channel. I cant invest too much in the hobby right now and even if I can invest like 500$ I dont want it to be in 1 Deck. I built your upgraded Vito deck last week ( came to about 100$ on the canadian market) and Im super competitive but more impotantly Im having fun playing. Im planning on building many more decks with ur help. SO thx again. keep doing this pls.

Ah I see Garring is a man of culture as well~ When my tokens are simple 2/2, "Behind The Scenes" do a lot of work. And when they are strong of course "True Conviction" makes them even better. "Zombie Trailblazer" and "Wonder" in both cases. "Curse of Disturbance" does a lot of work cursing the player on top. And with this deck since last year, my "Alhammarret's Archive" I had stored in a binder, finally have a permanent home~

Sir Conrad hits when a creature hits any graveyard and when a creature leaves YOUR graveyard, not any graveyard. It won’t effect how this deck runs but it doesn’t add value against enemy reanimation.

I run a Varina Deck, she's the first commander deck I ever built and I've slowly upgraded her over the years. Needless to say she's a powerhouse now and can easily flood the board with Zombies, Zombie Gods and Boardwipes galore. She's so damn fun to play.

Varina is my main deck. I know Alhammaret’s archive isn’t budget, but Teferi’s Ageless Insight is and those both turn Varina into a serious draw engine. Diviner’s Wand is my favorite obscure tech for this deck. She gets huge out of nowhere.

Tactic 8 could have been called "Dead and Gone" since it features exile effects (gone) and it's in a zombie deck (dead). Or "Cremation" since exile effects get rid of something and prevent graveyard shenanigans (come to think of it, necromancers would be in deep trouble if cremation were popular) EDIT: or "Dead Doornails" since these cards are aimed at artifacts and enchantments.

Varina has to be my favorite deck. I'll always remember removing a player from the stack because he cast Aetherize which was going to hose me. I tapped shepherd of rot, activated loch lord of unx and cycled gempalm polluter targeting the dude. Needless to say his face turned sour and sad lol

Looks like a nice, straight forward zombie deck built for synergy and fun. My ONLY feedback for this deck, I suspect it does too much looting and not enough draw. I realize that could be a budget issue too.

My Varina deck is so fun. After I got my stimulus check, I put her together, and the best combo is having Varina out, with Alhammarrett’s archive, and bone miser. Pair that with Rooftop Storm, to just EXPLODE.

I have this type of deck and run a Profane Processions in it which works very well. It combos with all your zombie token generators and Smothering Tithe.

I have a Varina deck, but I use it as a way to run a really janky but fun combo. I have all the cards that ping when things die, like Vengeful dead, Diregraf Captain and Plague Belcher, and then try to fill my graveyard with as many zombies as possible. My win con is then to have either Arcane Adaption or Conspiracy in play naming humans, so all my zombies are zombie humans. Finally you cast Zombie Apocalypse, and return everything from your graveyard to the battlefield, then they die triggering all the Ping lords. It can easily close out a game in a single turn, especially if you use Varina to remove all the non creatures from your graveyard to farm up some tokens for the big finish.

I made a deck like this a few years ago. It's a cheap deck. The thing I'm most worried about is the fact that you churn through the deck really quickly, and her ability isn't a "may" so if your hand is ever empty you basically mill yourself.

Varina is my favorite deck I have ever built. She was my first ever commander deck back in 2018 and I still have her to this day. She started out as budget but as time went on, and upgraded her and cards rose in price, she is now about $500

some upgrades: Rooftop Storm, because paying 0 for (nontoken) zombies is good. Especially with zombies that can cast from the graveyard, like Gravecrawler. Also a less reasonable, but still upgrade to the land base could be Field of the Dead. because free zombies for playing land.

I have a Varina deck, and the moment I realized she didn't have to attack to trigger, my mind went wild. It's a hilarious deck to pilot, great for tribal, reanimator, lifegain, it does everything you want in esper. Also, if you can afford it, rooftop storm and liliana, untouched is a fantastic combo in this deck!

Cryptbreaker and Gravespawn Sovereign, both are sub 5$ but in zombie tribal being able to tap 3 untapped zombies to draw a card or Tap 5 untapped zombies to take a creature from any graveyard and put it on the battlefield is pretty strong. Unfortunately Gravespawn Sovereign is a high cmc creature at 4bb but still a bomb though as it's ability is not T: so can use the turn it's brought into play.

Roofrop Storm, Noxious Ghoul, Grave Crawler, and a sac outlet like Carrion feeder, Or Nantuko Husk can whipe out a board. also if you us Butcher of Malakir, Erebos edict or Grave pact can also whipe out boards. If one include green you use the same combo pump up Carrion Feeder or Nantuko Husk and with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord kill every one.

I've built her and she is by far my favorite deck to play and it is almost the same as this list some minor differences but ifnir does put in work and anything he doesn't kill most of the time gets tapped from the zombies entering I did put the exquisite blood and sanguine bond combo in but just one of them can win the game with a swing with 10 or 15 zombies gain that life deal the damage I love it

I have gotta say, I have put no ramp in the deck. Getting Varina out early is not as valuable as getting zombies onto the field early. I prefer to cast Varina on turn 4 and attack with 2 Z's already on the field. This can get the engine started which can guarantee my land drops. This results in me having a lot of mana in the late game (Also through Crypt of Agadeem)

Mitch... Wayfarer's Bauble is a good card everyone knows that. But Sol Ring is cheaper than it by this point, to be fair Wayfarer's gets a land which is hard to remove while Sol Ring can easily be removed. It's Sol Ring, and it's cheaper than Wayfarer's Bauble. Never thought I would be saying that, wish I bought more than 1 bauble whenever it was you started making videos.

I love Varina, she was my first commander deck at first it was around $80 after 2 years it’s around $400 lol best deck, I don’t recommend open the graves if it’s a big token deck it won’t make much. I took it out

Another good reasonable upgrade might be Alhammarret's Archive, since that doubles up the card draw and lifegain from swinging with your zombies.

My fiance runs her as his commander for his zombie deck. Throw in library of leng for hilarity and getting around the discard issue. Varina is a great, unexpected zombie commander
