UPDATE: Hey everyone! I just uploaded a more complete and updated review here of the Vaseline tonic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LczvfULahhQ.html Go ahead and check it out!
Good vid. My grandfather used to use a product called Wildroot Cream Oil Hair Tonic, which I believe was popular in the 30s/40s/50s on shorter and neater styles. He also used it as a standalone product without pomade I believe, and I think lots of people did that back then.
Wildroot hair cream was made by Colgate Palmolive. Sold off to Stephens in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Recently sold off now to Oakhurst in New York. Good stuff, however, as with anything else out there, you use just a little as it goes a long way with every other day hair washings.
I am 64 and got a full head of hair. I've to get it cut every three or four weeks. Most of my mates are amazed I've still got a full thick head of hair. I swear by this stuff. Get it you will not be disappointed.
I got 400ml bottle for saudi 14 riyals.... Never knew what it was for and used to use it like an oil as a kid. Thanks for the video man. Got the product again after at least 10 years.
UPDATE: PLEASE READ. This video kinda blew up but it reached an audience I wasn't expecting who don't exactly know the purpose of this tonic, when I initially intended to make this video for the men's hairstyling community. Now I have to address much more detailed purposes such as hair growth and hair fall, should I make a new video to explain all of this and to reach a broader audience? Please reply yes or no to this comment.
@@OxOx_XoXo1 No longer sold in stores. Sad shame because not EVERYBODY out there has internet access, and a lot of people like myself have no knowledge on how to order these good ole products from a computer. We simply like the good ole days when you walked in a drug store, saw it on the shelf and, purchased it at the cash register. Less complicated, better, by far instead of this on line computer stuff, which, quite frankly, is totally ridiculous.
I'm from Germany and right now im in Australia and in the Supermarket they sell Vaseline Hair Tonic but it a Little bit different then the regular one it looks a Little bit more Vintage (the bottle) but it has the Same ingriedients (mineral oil and fragrance) greetings from Perth (Stay Greasy)
The Pomp King Yeah I know that, he used Lover's Moon and Dixie Peach in his high school days back when he had Tony Curtis hair. He used Brylcreem too, I believe he used it on the 1968 Comeback Leather concert.
No. No side effects. Just use it sparingly, maybe about once a week with every other day hair washings and you'll be fine. This product will train your hair very nicely and will do the job most effectively when used sparingly, or in other words, just a few drops, no more, and you'll come out a winner using this product.
Actually it is best to take it with dry hair so the water and the oil doesn't mix Also if you mix it the benefits of the oil will come slower So use it on a dry hair
Thanks. I would really love to but I can't make any video responses at the moment until next September or October. If you have any requests for me, it will take quite a while to wait but I will remember them. Next week I will upload a video explaining my situation.
No, it doesn't at all dry out your hair. Matter of fact, it adds mineral oil to your scalp, as this is what it is, mineral oil and fragrance, first produced and manufactured by Chesbough Ponds Incorporated.
Yo im sorry I asking this even though you told us not to but if it makes your hair healthier then logically isnt it like good for your hair so technically it kinda helps from hairloss right? Btw great video man subbed and liked..
Amr Raayed Nayel If you mean hair loss issues due to scalp health, then yes, it indeed helps with that. But not with natural hairloss/pattern baldness as most people seem to think!
Good stuff. Vitalis and Score was produced by Brystal Meyers, however was sold off to Clairol who, in turn discontinued Score, then sold off Vitalis to some outfit in Texas. As with anything else, use it sparingly with every other day hair washings.
@@mr.n476 Actually it isn’t. Every day our hair naturally falls out in between 50 to 100 strands, but when using hair products it could all come out in one big swoop.
In your opinion do you find it very similar to Vitalis in terms of hold and shine? I’m going to buy some hair tonic soon and I’m just looking at all my options. Thanks!
Not at all - Vaseline tonic is pretty much a liquid brilliantine. Comparing an oil based and alcohol based hair tonic is apples and oranges. Vaseline is shinier than Vitalis and due to its oily nature, it has a slight slickness and hold above Vitalis. But if you want an oil based hair tonic then I highly recommend the one by Templeton Tonics, I did a review on it last week.
The Squinty Show Thank you for the reply I’m still pretty new with using hair tonics so this was great insight between the two. I’ll definitely go check out your video on templeton tonics and also I want to thank you for the great content you’ve been giving us you’ve been a huge help when it came to what I was looking for in pomades so I really appreciate the videos
@@Jay07110 Thank you very much! I don't know if anyone remembers my beginner "Pomade Survival Guide" planned series (I released one installment so far of this series) but I plan to make one about tonics in the near future, possibly next month.
The Squinty Show Actually when I first subscribed to you I started with your early videos so I could catch up with your channel so I remember very well your “pomade survival guide” and I really loved that video it was definitely one of the many great things about your channel that helped the newcomers like myself who wanted to try pomades know what to look for so the idea of doing one for hair tonics would be great and I’ll be looking forward to that one especially since I’m just starting to try out hair tonics. Thank you man for everything keep up the great work and I’ll be keeping up with your channel and recommending you.
@@pomadesandpompadours6309 Vitalis is also a very fine product to, and as you have stated, comparing apples to oranges. Vitalis has a real nice, manly scent and is a good product to use, liquid that has alcohol in it. Vasiline hair Tonic is mineral oil with fragrance mixed in on it.
It's Theoretically possible but really not optimal, you'll be bussy recombing all day because it hasn't any hold. You'll be better off using brylcreem or something like that if you dig a light hold
You can do anything you want. You more likely will have to use a great deal of water to plaster your hair down so it will hold to the desired hairstyle you want to have.
Hi there, I can't say for sure, but I don't think it really affects the growth of hair. But it does promote healthy hair by stimulating the scalp and prevent it from getting dry so I think it makes hair stronger.
You are supposed to pour it directly over your hair -- not on your hand. There is a reason for that. If you pour it in your hand and lather it up then you will disolve the hair tonic and you may not receive the best effect from it.
Actually, in the case of Vaseline hair tonic, it does not matter, being an oil based tonic. Your advice only applies to alcohol based tonics like Vitalis, as they would absorb in your hands when you lather them up, much like a hand sanitizer.
Not necessarily. When you do apply, or use an application of any of these products, you are suppose to put the product in the palm if your hand and then apply it to your hair and scalp, massaging your hair and scalp to stimulate both hair growth and scalp circulation. Once done, then you comb or brush out your hair to the desired hairstyle you choose to have.
@@badass0073 No. However read the instructions, apply it according to the manufacturer's instructions and always remember that a little goes a long way.
Depends on your personal feelings about how you want to or choose to comb your hair. Some guys out there put these hair products in their hair, and use a great deal of water to hold everything in place while other guys only use it sparingly, maybe once a week knowing that the wet head is dead. Again, personal preference for your choice and opinion on how you want to look like.
I have a much different hair type compared to yours and other caucasians. I need this length, which is still relatively short, to do a decent vintage side part. Shorter hair for me means more spiking up on my Asian hair and less slickness which defeats the whole purpose of what I'm going for.
@@pomadesandpompadours6309 Thanks for your justification... Sorry for spelling I am not an English actually. Hope you understand what I mean. I am sorry for bad review.
Designed for men, and men's grooming needs. Women have millions of products that are designed for them, however, men have virtually nothing much designed for them.
