The last alive woman of the vault had this to say "like he totes deserved it, like who is he to call us crazy, who even needs to repopulate society anyway, like society sucks"

would likely be the other way around , the men would have treated the one woman like a Queen and likely protect her from any dumb men and evil men would be smart enough to choose alliance over anything crazy. However in the women vault , that one man is a goner , women generally are far more tribal than men and dont step in the way of violence or mistreatment of others especially if that person is a man and the perpetrator is a woman thus that man would have all ill manners dealt to him until he is dead.

Regarding repopulating the vaults it is obvious Vault 68 will have a lot of trouble due to the one female. While on the surface Vault 69 may appear not to have a problem repopulating, there is going to be a major complication that all the children of the original male will be half brothers and half sisters. This will mean that any children from them will likely have serious health issues or impairment. The population will hit a genetic wall.

999 men and 1 woman, daang that made me remember the beautifully drawn manga "Bradherly No Basha" by Hiroaki Samura creator of "Blade of the Immortal". Both involves people locked up inside a place and most disturbing of all the reason why the woman is put inside that place in the first place. Maan even Fallout has its own disturbing moments.

Imo, there would have been plenty of fighting/killing in the female vault too. I’m also fairly certain that it’s possible that the man could have befriended some of the women despite them not having genitals in common, though I’m sure it would be lonely (and somewhat exasperating) to be the only man in a vault full of women. The woman in the male vault on the other hand would suffer a horrible fate and likely not live very long imo. There would likely be many more bad men than good men and she would likely be violently and relentlessly assaulted to the point of her body suffering brutal damage and giving out. After that, prison rules. The smallest, weakest men become the new victims. Vault tech was sick, but maybe Vault Tech held a mirror to humanity.

In my honest opinion vault 68 and 69 would end up the same way: bloody mess, slavery and dictatorship Just like men would fight for the woman, the women would fight for the man. Best case scenario Vault 68: The female didn't have much power or say, but she could choose who to have sex with once every few months and she was well taken care of. Vault 69: The male was able to impregnate a lot of women and they had boys and they were well taken care of and raised properly. Worse case 68: There was a violent war and either the males started it or the one female was power hungry and started the whole conflict. Either way there is no happy ending. Vault 69: The male didn't really have any power and some of the females formed a gang to dominate the rest. Any males that were born were secretly groomed and even abused kinda like that one female babysitter you heard about but worse. By the time the boys grow up they would be too traumatized to work, lead or even have sex.

I would not be happy in Vault 69. I would expect that it would be impossible for one man to satisfy 999 women so the vast majority would go unfulfilled. While I am sure many wouldn't care there would be many more who would be jealous of the few who gets to mate and if any woman got it more than once the jealousy would intensify. Even if they selected a man who can perform multiple times a day he still wouldn't be able to keep that up all the time. Oh, I am sure it would be great at first, but he'll need to break for meals and with such a long line of women waiting he'll be under constant pressure to perform. Most men have periods when they are most able to perform over the course of a week and if a man is pressured into performing the entire time it will reduce his performance in the long run. In the worst case scenario he could be rendered unable to perform at all due to the pressure and that would make the women mad. The vault could collapse just as quickly as vault 68 if they are too aggressive with him. If we conservatively assume that the man will be able to perform at his peak for 3 days before needing to rest for 4 days and if we assume that he could handle 3 women at once on 3 occasions on each of those 3 days that would only represent 27 women a week. Now let's assume for the sake of argument that the fertility of the women will sync up. So one week out of every month the guy gets a break away from the women to recover. In this scenario he would have enough time to satisfy 1080 women a year. Since pregnancy is only around 9 months he could theoretically sleep with every woman once a year and impregnate each one every year. Of course, many won't be impregnated the first time around, but you probably don't want all 999 women all pregnant at the same time since the man won't be able to do any other job so it's OK if his success rate is only around 50%. That may be the most ideal and logical outcome, but practically speaking the most beautful women and/or the women who can at least act like the nicest are going to get picked multiple times in quick succession and I'd expect some women to force themselves on the man as a result and I'd also expect a literal bloodbath. Most men in turn also wouldn't be reasonable enough to take 4 days off a week and properly pace themselves when there's nearly a thousand women practically begging for it. So, just because it can work out doesn't mean it will. The thing to remember is that men and women are truly equal. It's only gender norms that vary. We as a society don't realize this because the FBI crime data exclude crimes perpetrated by women against men through their very narrow definitions, but when looking at the raw data it seems that women victimize men as often as men victimize women.

Realistically the population with 99 men and 1 woman would have likely functioned fine for a while (depending on the sample of men) but ultimately died off. Unless they're all felony inmates, the population would self-correct and tend towards stability, not chaos. Logically though the population would be reduced to maybe a handfull after the first generation, since 1 woman is obviously not nearly enough to meet replacement level. The other vault would be chaotic initially but since replacement levels would be fine, after 4 or 5 generations you'd have a more or less even population.

How Vault 69 can (almost) avoid inbreeding: 1) Original male gets with the oldest 500 females. Leave the youngest 499 for the next generation. 2) The sons of the original male get with the 499 females who initially entered the vault. These pairing are still unrelated to each other. The daughters of the original male don't breed. 3) The third generation all have the same grandfather. They'll have to breed with each other and hope for the best.
