Todays project was an epic battle to get a Corsa D running again... This is a long one, Initially the car was brought to us with a faulty non communicating engine ECU, after an initial OBD diagnostic scan with a Thinkcar Max scan tool & Autel Maxisys MS909 to read fault codes, it soon transpired it was a LOT worse!! A full meltdown of the CANBUS network had given the owner of this car a very bad day.. (Engine ECU, Body Control Module, ABS pump & Power steering all blown - literally!) Here we show how the in depth process of testing & diagnosing the CAN network for faults using wiring diagram schematics of the CAN-BUS system to see how it all works & testing the engine ECU (Engine Control Module) & BCM (Body Control Module) on the bench & programming new modules despite having the holy F**k blown out of them

Hi, thanks for watching!.. Firstly I would get a full diagnostic scan done on your vehicle by a competent auto diagnostician..

Have you not tested the can bus for a short to ground or morw likely a ahorr to positive on the resr of rhe can bus

Hi, you raise a good point! Yes I did check for shorts between CAN hi & lo to ground & live whilst I was bypassing the CAN wires - unfortunately I didn’t record this part, I should of mentioned this & maybe I also should of included a synopsis of my thoughts of the root cause of the problem… Keeping in mind the original faulty ECU was drawing nearly 3 times the current of the test ECU, I suspect that the ECU was the culprit & internally shorted which blew the hole in the CAN chip on the board & sent a voltage spike up the CAN lines causing the whole lot to get fried.. anyhoo, thanks for watching & for your comment!

I did wonder too why the CAN lines weren’t scoped before removing modules etc. I feel for the garage having to explain this one to their customer and the hassle which comes with a certain type of non-understanding customer, especially as this wouldn’t have been cheap either!

@@davyarthurs It was just quicker for me to put the module on the test bench, I'm not knocking scoping the CAN lines - I often do it & recommend garages to do it but its time consuming to take the covers off the plugs & back-probe them etc when I have a test bench & it takes a few seconds to rig it up on bench... and its warmer in the office!! & Yes, I have a lot of sympathy for my customer having to explain this to the car owner, thanks for watching & your comment!

@@JC-ECUConnectionYep, don’t blame u for doing it the way you do with your setup! Thanks for taking the time to explain.

Hi! I have same problem, no communication with bcm ecm ABS and eps. I changed bcm to other with same numbers and IT Didint change anything. Do you have bcm wiring diagram ? Red/yellow thick cable is only power supply to bcm?
@JC-ECUConnection

I would start by testing the CAN wiring for correct resistance, short to ground & scoping them for a signal, I do have wiring diagrams but my contract with Autodata is that they are not for resale / publication etc, a Google search should help, if not then you can contact us via the contact details on our website for further help: www.ecuconnection.co.uk

Hi & thanks for watching!.. I did wonder this myself & also considered that maybe they jump started it with 24v but the customer - a good garage I have known a long time assures me all they done was put it up on the ramp & changed a front spring & wishbone, got it back down & then a non start! My biggest worry if there is a random short circuit that may happen again but there was no shorts or signs of any other faults!… a bit mystery, my suspicion was an internal short on the ECU or maybe to be continued!!
