Excellent review-the most informative on this model I’ve come across on RU-vid!

Thanks for taking the time to engage and the favourable comment, I'm pleased you liked the review. IMO the Insignia is an underrated car, it does what it was designed to do very well. Its easy to knock Vauxhall like many other reviews do.

Thanks for the kind words. Really pleased you found it useful. Vauxhall get some unjustified bad press, as far as I can see purely because of the Vectra, although the last models were not that bad IMO. Its just that everyone has been brainwashed to go straight to BMW/Audi.

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to comment, its really appreciated. Sounds like you got a good deal, Insignia Estate is a really good car, very much maligned purely because of its badge.

I have gone from a Astra 1.7 CDTi SE Sport Tourer to a insignia 2.0 CDTi BlueInjection SRi VX Line Nav Sport Tourer and it is a superior car to drive.. but with 19 inch atom wheels on Falcon run flat tyres... it is a hard ride. I love the car and it going to last me an long time and I am exceptionally impressed with the fuel consumption and at 170Bhp, au hall has done very well. I like your video and it is accurate to what you have described..

Just bought a 2014 vauxhall insignia Sri 2.0l estate... Very happy with the styling and buying it now with only 1 previous owner can't fault the car it definitley looks fantastic for an estate and the space is more than you could ask from a car. The quality is amazing considering the price and compared to other estates of same price bracket you can't really argue with the quality.. I agree with your scratchy plastics by the feet it wouldn't make sense to put the more luxury soft touch there for the cleaning purpose.. I feel the cabin is well thought out in terms of driver usability and the feel of the seats are very comfy.. I was looking at a saloon however with a little one and one on the way and doberman the estate just made more sense.. I can get all my dog stuff in as well as a dog bed 👍🏻... Also was nice watching the route you took in car I do this run every week to seaways Friday Thorpe 😂 good review 👌🏻

That's one of best reviews I have seen for this car. Usually people will take it for a ride and will give you their opinion but its different to actually own the car for 3 years.. Could you share what is your mileage and maybe the servicing/maintenance required in these years? I am thinking to get one of those 2.0l diesels for the family... And I need something confortable, reliable and relatively cheap to run.

Thank you for you terrific comment! The problem with doing 3yr reviews is that I don't upload content very often ;) I don't have the car any longer, I have a Grandland, which is another excellent car. In the 3 yrs I did 45K miles and it was dealer serviced once a year. It never broke down, failed to start or developed any other annoyance. I achieved 40mpg urban and up to 60mpg on longer motorway runs. I had to change the front tyres once at 27k miles. This was a 1.6 Diesel I had a 2.0 Diesel hatchback Insignia before, not quite as economical - 50mpg on a long run - and not quite as quick to 50mph but after that it really took off. I would think the top speed was probably around 135mph.

own the green one my self as your said cannot fault it. the bit that im well impressed with is the 236 ft of torque is at the bottom of the rev range that why i brought it over the 2.0ltr 1800 rpm to 3500 if i remember correctly and all in all 6 gear at 70 your doing 2000 rpm and pulls away nice at that speed too. as for dpf cleaning it does 2 per tank it holds the revs at 1000 rpm when it cleaning out and i use tescos diesel with a dash of redex on every fill runs very well.

@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 3 года назад
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback, I’m glad you found it helpful. I’m afraid I can’t be much help regarding the ISOFIX though, I never used the Insignia with child seats.
@benjones7117
@benjones7117 3 года назад
I have used child seat in my insignia. The i Isofix is fine but if you have the leather seats like I do they can damage the leather because to gain access to the fix points it’s in the join between the bench and the backrest meaning the leather is pushed down while the seat is in causing it to crease. Wish they had fitted flaps like other manufacturers

I'm to buing the 2018 model and I see they have taken your advice about dropping the seats from the boot
@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 4 года назад
Thanks for watching. Yes, with such a long load area it was a really poor design decision to omit the facility to drop the seats from the rear. I nearly went for the later model, but in the end decided to give the Grandland a go. So far its been a good experience, unfortunately the pandemic has got in the way of my review video!

Very good review. I have just bought one (14 plate Elite Nav Auto 2.0 CDTI) after my 20 year old BMW 318 Auto developed a major oil leak. I do disagree with you on the interior. I think it looks wonderful but feels cheap when compared to the old BMW. The quality of the buttons and creeky plastics dont feel solid. I can live with it as the car is a bargain concidering the kit it comes with.
@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 3 года назад
Hi, thanks for taking time to leave a comment. The comparison with an old BMW is interesting; I had a 2004 BMW 328 M Sport for a short time a few years back and wasn't that impressed with the interior build quality. I think this demonstrates what a difficult task car makers have in satisfying their customers expectations. Enjoy the Insignia.

I have the elite trim version. Great car. they get bad reputation but I’ve never had any issues. You mention the headlights. Does yours have the AFL headlights or the standard halogen? Mine has the adaptive bi Xeon headlights that move around corners and adjust the beam pattern to suit road/driving conditions. Also has auto main beam dip beam.
@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 3 года назад
Thanks for getting in touch. Wholly agree that they don’t deserve the reputation, too many people accept without question the superiority of other brands without actually checking for themselves. I had the standard halogen headlights on both mine. My current Grandland has the auto dip feature which works well. Funnily enough nearly 40 yrs ago I built an auto dip system for my HND Electronics 3rd year project, everyone thought I was mad!

@@huwjones5879 ah that’s cool. Yeah that function is pretty much standard on cars now. I’m by no means a Vauxhall fan boy I’ve had 2 BMWs 3 series previous to the insignia and I found the BMWs drive better but that’s to be expected. Although the 2012 BMW was a lot les reliable than my insignia. Bought a 65 registered insignia with 50k miles on because I found them to be much better value for money in terms of size, practicality and spec levels. Mine is fully loaded and it was less then half the price of equivalent spec and age German branded cars.
@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 3 года назад
@@benjones7117 FWD compared to RWD bound to be a very different drive. I briefly had a 3 Series M Sport 328 Tourer, it was a decent enough drive but felt heavy and I wasn’t that impressed with the build quality considering the reputation. Annoying faults with things like seatbelt and Airbag lights as well. Quite impressed with the build quality of my knockabout Gen1 BMW Mini Cooper S though, which is the same year as the 328.

Hi Huw, very much enjoyed your review, I have a Peugeot 407 SW 2ltr diesel at the moment but have been thinking of getting an insignia estate sri model. If I may ask a question, what is the load length as I am planning to do a UK road trip next year and wanted to do a few nights sleeping in the car. I am 1.83cm, 72inches or 6ft take your pick. Wishing you good health & happiness. Kim.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated. Apples and Oranges really, I much preferred to drive the Insignia over the Qashquai, it was more involving. However the Nissan took more load and was a bit nicer for rear passengers.

Boot space is why most buy an estate.. I'm fed up and give up on reviews which always talk of volume.. All I want to know is what are the measurements of the boot...
@huwjones5879
@huwjones5879 4 года назад
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I don’t see the point in mentioning boot size, all that kind of thing is available with a Google search, and its your call if its what you need. I try to give my views on what it is like to live with the car. Dimensions can be misleading though, its best to go along and view a vehicle to really know if its suitable. There are loads of Insignias on dealer forecourts. Having said this though, if its purely boot size that you need there are far better choices. The insignia is sold as a Sports Tourer, which suggests load capacity was not top of the designers list.
